  • This study focused on self-effects and spouse-effects that impact marital satisfaction in sex role stereotypes, work-family conflict and work-family enrichment. 95 double-income couples participated in this study, and the paired T-Test and multiple regression analysis were conducted. The result of the study showed that sex role stereotypes, work-family conflict, and work-family enrichment are not significant differences in husband and wife, but a husbands was significantly higher than wife in marital satisfaction. In the next step, we considered variables affecting marital satisfaction, and found a significant difference between husband and wife. Work-family enrichment positively affected the husband's marital satisfaction, while the wife's satisfaction was positively affected by the husband's sex role stereotype and negatively affected by her work-family conflict. This study suggests that marriage enrichment programs, the education of husband and wife, and couple counseling should consider individual effects and spouse effects.

  • Purpose : Using qualitative research and a phenomenological approach, the present study aimed to explore men's experiences of becoming a nurse. We posed the question "What has been your experience of becoming a nurse?" Methods : Eleven male nurses from three regions in Korea were selected through convenience sampling. The protocol suggested by Colaizzi was used for data analysis. Results : The principal themes were "Challenging to the stochastic stereotype of gender mechanics," "Floating outside the enclosure of multiple groups," "The male nurse's conceptualization of nursing organizations," "To stand with self-doubt, thinking of it as a stopover," and "Situations encountered by a male nurse." Conclusion : Men experience gender discrimination based on the social roles that are imposed on males and females both at school and in the workplace. They prefer to work where they have more diverse tasks that require quick responses. However, most male nurses adapt to this work by outlasting the difficulties. These nurses become accustomed to their tasks, and satisfied with their mature work performance. They often feel they are not adequately compensated for their work. They may judge the future as uncertain, and have lingering doubts about maintaining their positions, ultimately gravitating toward specialized fields that promise a brighter future and are more consistent with traditional gender expectations.

  • This study investigated the effect of gender stereotypes, majors subject satisfaction, and self-leadership in male nursing students. Data was collected from October 1, 2018 to December 10, 2018, enrolling male nursing university students attending four nursing departments located at G-province. Data were analyzed by frequency and percentage, mean and standard deviation, correlation analysis, and ANOVA, by applying the SPSS 22.0 program. Results of this study reveal the average gender stereotype of male nursing students to be $1.31{\pm}0.17$, average of major subject satisfaction $2.95{\pm}0.51$, and self-leadership $2.98{\pm}0.43$. Analyzing the characteristics of variables according to general characteristics revealed that major satisfaction scores are higher for students who think positively about school and major, have higher grades, and choose their major after considering their aptitude. Self-leadership was higher with age and school year, and among students who selected their major after considering future employment opportunities. This study aims to provide basic data for male nursing university students to help them to adapt well in the field of nursing.

  • In this study, we tested the hypothesis that a woman who claims sexual assault would be evaluated more negatively, and the suspected man would be judged more leniently, when the woman is agentic. In addition, we expected that this phenomenon would occur because the agentic accuser does not conform to the 'sexual crime victim' stereotype or feminine norms, and considered these as mediator variables. We also postulated that male (vs. female) participants would have a less positive regard of the agentic accuser and tested participant gender's moderating effects. Contrary to our hypothesis, participants criticized the agentic (vs. non-agentic) woman who claims sexual assault less and perceived her more positively and truthfully, and more likely to judged the suspected man to be guilty and recommended longer sentences. However, we observed the expected moderating effects of participant gender, so that male (vs. female) participants evaluated the agentic accuser more negatively. Mediation analyses yielded results on perceived truthfulness that were consistent with our hypothesis: Participants thought of agentic accuser as less feminine, which predicted less perceived truthfulness. Also, the less the agentic accuser was perceived to be feminine, male participants blamed her more while female participants had more positive impressions of her.

  • This study aims to find a way to realize gender identity in product design. After reviewing the present research, it was found out that it is necessary to extend notion of gender and to redefine the concept of gender design. Specific products were selected in order to analyze the characteristics of femininity. Refrigerators, which represent the femininity the best, were chosen and analyzed based on the graphic elements. As a result, the concept of gender have been used quite limitedly in a refrigerator. Since the stereotype of women has already been implicit, it was considered difficult to propose an alternative plan for realizing the extended concept of gender. Therefore, digital devices have been proposed for a potential alternative group. This product group, of course, has a limitation like the refrigerators. However, when functions, frequency of use, and use of space are considered in depth, It can be a possible group that holds the meaning of gender in design. This study is significant that it attempted to examine the possibility of convergence in identity and usability when the graphic elements of a product are constructed by gender design that considers the identity of a user through redefining the concept of gender.

Methods: Data were collected from 20 male nurses working at general hospitals, through semi-structured in-depth interviews. The interviews were recorded and subsequently transcribed verbatim. Using content analysis, data were coded and categorized. Results: The analyzed domains were motivations for choosing nursing, occupational experiences (3 subdomains), and attitudes toward the future. A total of 85 significant statements were selected from the data and classified into 32 categories. The nurses' motivations for choosing nursing were advantages of employment, their aptitude, scarcity value of men, professionalism and job security, good promotion, stable income, and family influence. In occupational experiences, they were assigned to special fields and dissatisfied with vertical relationship, promotion system, their salary, and gaps in military service time; they had difficulties in adapting to female-dominated groups and encountered gender role stereotype and preconception; they were satisfied with their distinguished performance, but had damaged self-esteem, and were stressed and disappointed in their work. In their attitudes toward the future, they considered their career changes, but tried to make professional and personal advancement. Conclusion: These findings have implications for recruiting and retaining male nurses in clinical settings.

  • Objectives: This study investigates factors influencing the perpetrations of sexual violence while dating among college students. Methods: With a correlational survey design, a self-report survey was conducted and collected 1,132 responses from college students with dating experiences. Methods including descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression were used to analyze data. Results: Compared to college students with no perpetrations of sexual violence, college students with perpetrations of sexual violence had significantly higher scores in father's violence, mother's violence, gender role stereotype, and sexual violence permissiveness. On the other hand they had significantly lower scores in sexual assault recognition than the compared group. A multiple regression model result forecasted parents' violence, sexual assault recognition, sexual violence permissiveness, and gender as prediction indicators of perpetrations of sexual violence. Conclusion: To prevent sexual violence while dating, domestic violence should be decreased through parents education and counseling from childhood. High-risk groups should be detected by surveying socio-psychological variables including experience of domestic violence, sexual assault recognition, and sexual violence permissiveness. It need to develop and implement sexual violence prevention programs to accurately inform and aware sexual violence.

  • This study was conducted to explore whether an automatic evaluation effect (i.e.,congruency effect and positive priming effect) of emotional properties which have been found in the racial prejudice study can be applied to the gender properties. Experiment 1 employing a short SOA (150ms-250ms) naming task showed a priming effect was larger in the positive prime-positive target condition than negative prime-negative target condition but not congruent effect. Experiment 2 employing a long SOA (500ms-1000ms) naming task didn't yield either positive priming effect or congruency effect. The congruency effect and the positive priming effect which is ubiquitous phenomenon in the generic cognitive concepts network were not found in the gender properties. Therefore, it was suggested that the social information including prejudice or stereotype can be differently processed according to the value of emotionality.
