연소시스템의 열음향 불안정 예측을 위한 Helmholtz Solver 개발 (Development of Helmholtz Solver for Thermo-Acoustic Instability within Combustion Devices)

  • 본 연구에서는 실제 로켓엔진 및 가스터빈용 연소기 내부의 열음향 불안정을 효과적으로 예측하기 위하여, 헬름홀츠 방정식과 시간지연모델을 이용한 3차원 유한요소법 해석코드를 개발하였다. 연소응답항에 의해 수치적으로 야기되는 비선형성은 반복법으로 선형화 하였으며, Arnoldi 방법을 사용하여 대용량 고유치 문제를 해석하였다. 해석결과인 복소각주파수와 음향 압력장을 통해 각 음향모드의 공진주파수, 진폭의 증폭/감쇠 여부 그리고 모드 형태를 예측할 수 있다. 이론해가 존재하는 두 가지 문제를 통해 출구 임피던스와 예혼합 화염이 종 방향 음향장에 미치는 영향에 대한 예측 정확도를 평가하였으며, 배플 유무에 따른 횡 방향 음향 모드의 주파수 변이를 상온 음향시험 결과와 비교/검증하였다.

HSC발전소 터빈용 초내열합금 Alloy 617 및 263 용접부의 미세조직에 미치는 후열처리의 영향 (Effects of Post Weld Heat Treatment on Microstructures of Alloy 617 and 263 Welds for Turbines of HSC Power Plants)

  • Recently nickel based superalloys are extensively being regarded as the materials for the steam turbine parts for hyper super critical (HSC) power plants working at the temperature over $700^{\circ}C$, since the materials have excellent strength and corrosion resistance in high temperature. In this paper, alloy 617 of solution strengthened material and alloy 263 of ${\gamma}^{\prime}$-precipitation strengthened material were prepared as the testing materials for HSC plants each other. Post weld heat treatment (PWHT) was conducted with the gas tungsten arc (GTA) welded specimens. The microstructure of the base metals and weld metals were investigated with Electron Probe Micro-Analysis (EPMA) and Scanning Transmission Electron Microscope (STEM). The experimental results revealed that Ti-Mo carbides were formed in both of the base metals and segregation of Co and Mo in both of the weld metals before PWHT and PWHT leaded to precipitation of various carbides such as Mo carbides in the specimens. Furthermore, fine ${\gamma}^{\prime}$ particles, that were not precipitated in the specimens before PWHT, were observed in base metal as well as in the weld metal of alloy 263 after PWHT.

터빈 노즐 및 열차폐 코팅에 따른 고압 1 단 터빈 블레이드의 구조 건전성 영향에 대한 연구 (A Study on the Structural Integrity of the First Stage Turbine Blade Caused by Thermal Barrier Coatings and the Cooling Design of the Nozzle)

  • 엔진 성능 혹은 효율의 극대화는 엔진 구성품들을 점점 더 극한의 환경에서 장시간 운용되게 요구하고 있다. 이를 위해 엔진 제작사 혹은 연구소는 초내열합금, 냉각 설계 최적화, 열차폐 코팅 개선 등의 노력과 동시에 재료 모델링, 유한요소해석, 최적설계 등의 수치 해석 기법을 적용하여 좀 더 정교한 설계 및 해석을 수행하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 연소기 뒤에 위치하는 1 단 고압터빈 노즐의 끝벽 냉각 설계와 열차폐 코팅에 따른 일방향 응고 재료인 1 단 고압터빈 블레이드의 저주기 피로 수명에 대한 영향을 고찰하고자 한다. 이를 위해 경계 조건인 고온 및 고압의 연소 가스에 의한 노즐 및 블레이드의 금속 온도는 복합 열 전달 해석을 통해 얻고, 이 결과를 받아 블레이드의 구조 해석 및 저주기 피로수명을 평가하여 노즐 냉각설계와 열차폐 코팅의 영향을 분석하였다.

고성능 비행체 엔진을 위한 분출냉각의 연구동향 (Research Activities of Transpiration Cooling for High-Performance Flight Engines)

  • 분출냉각은 높은 압력과 온도의 가혹한 환경에서 운용되는 고성능 액체로켓과 공기흡입엔진을 위한 가장 효과적인 냉각방법이다. 분출냉각이 적용되는 경우, 연소기 라이너와 터빈 블레이드/베인은 다공질 벽면을 통과하는 냉각재(공기 또는 연료)뿐만 아니라 차단막으로 작용하는 벽면을 빠져나온 냉각재에 의해 냉각된다. 이러한 냉각기술의 실용화는 가용한 다공질 재료의 부재로 인해 제한을 받아왔다. 그러나 금속결합 기술의 발전으로 확산접합과 식각된 얇은 금속판으로 제작한 Lamilloy$^{(R)}$와 같은 다층 기공 구조물이 개발되었다. 그리고 또한 경량 세라믹 매트릭스 복합재료가 개발됨에 따라 분출냉각은 근래 고성능 엔진 냉각을 위한 유망 기술로 여겨지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 분출냉각의 최근 연구동향 및 가스터빈, 액체로켓 및 극초음속 비행체 엔진에 이의 적용사례를 고찰하였다.

고속철도는 고속도로에 비하여 저탄소 친환경적인가? (Does High-Speed Rail Have Superiority over Motorway in Terms of CO2 Emission?)

  • PURPOSES : The aim of this article is to compare and identify eco-friendly competitiveness between (regional) motorway and high-speed rail(HSR) from the perspective of $CO_2$ emission in the Republic of Korea. METHODS : In order for an analysis of low-carbon competitiveness between the two modes, $CO_2e$ emission, $CO_2eppk$ (equivalent $CO_2$ gram per passenger kilometer), is employed as a comparison index. As for HSR, the index is calculated based on the passenger transport data and the gross of $CO_2e$ produced by Kyungbu high-speed line in 2013. Additionally, the gross of $CO_2e$ is computed by the greenhouse gas emission factors of domestic electricity generation mix. Regarding the index of motorway, it is directly calculated using both the official $CO_2e$ emission factor and the passenger-car occupancy of motorway. RESULTS : The results revealed, in the case of inter-regional transport, that the $CO_2e$ emission of displacement-based cars is 54.9% less than that of HSR, as the domestic electric power systems heavily relies on the thermal power plants over 66%. Note that internal combustion engines commonly used for vehicles are more energy-efficient than steam-driven turbines usually utilized for thermal power generation. CONCLUSIONS : It can be seen, at the very least in our study, that HSR has no superiority over motorway in the case of $CO_2e$ emission under the situations of domestic electricity generation mix. In addition, advanced eco-friendly vehicles have strong advantages over HSR. Therefore, all-out efforts should be made to develop and harvest renewable energy sources in order to achieve low-carbon HSR, sparing fossil fuels.

해군 무기체계 한국형 상태진단시스템 발전방향 연구 (Development of Korean Condition Based Maintenance Systems to Monitor Naval Weapon Systems)

  • 한국형 상태기준정비는 현재 한국해군 함정에 설치된 ICAS를 최대한 활용하여 전투준비태세를 완비하고, 선제적 정비/보급 지원과 군수자산의 경제적 운용, 데이터 기반 장비수명관리를 위한 것이다. 이러한 목적을 달성하기 위해서는 장비상태의 기준을 설정해야 하는데 이는 제작사에서 원천적인 기술을 제공하고 있지 않아 각 장비별 성능 맵 확보가 필요하고 고장패턴 등의 자료 축적이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 소형 가스터빈엔진을 활용하여 가스터빈 성능 맵을 확인하고 고장정보를 축적하여 실시간으로 장비성능 확인과 성능 경향을 나타내게 하였고 이를 통해 운용자의 행동지침과 정비자의 검사 절차등을 명시하여 최적의 장비상태가 유지 될 수 있도록 솔루션을 개발하였다. 본 연구를 기반으로 실제 함정의 데이터를 이용한 상태진단기법 발전에 활용할 예정이다.

고온선박엔진용 MoSi$_2$금속간화합물의 경도와 방전가공특성 (Hardness and EDM Processing of MoSi$_2$Intermetallics for High Temperature Ship Engine)

  • This paper describes the machining characteristics of the MoSi$_2$--based composites through the process of electric discharge drilling with various tubular electrodes. In addition to hardness characteristics, microstructures of Nb/MoSi$_2$laminate composites were evaluated from the variation of fabricating conditions, such as preparation temperature, applied pressure, and pressure holding time. MoSi$_2$-based composites have been developed in new materials for jet engines of supersonic-speed airplanes and gas turbines for high-temperature generators. These high performance engines may require new hard materials with high strength and high temperature-resistance. Also, with the exception of grinding, traditional machining methods are not applicable to these new materials. Electric discharge machining (EDM) is a thermal process that utilizes a spark discharge to melt a conductive material. The tool electrode is almost -unloaded, because there is n direct contact between the tool electrode and the work piece. By combining a non-conducting ceramic with more conducting ceramic, it was possible to raise the electrical conductivity. From experimental results, it was found that the lamination from Nb sheet and MoSi$_2$ powder was an excellent strategy to improve hardness characteristics of monolithic MoSi$_2$. However, interfacial reaction products, like (Nb, Mo)SiO$_2$and Nb$_2$Si$_3$formed at the interface of Nb/MoSi$_2$, and increased with fabricating temperature. MoSi$_2$composites, with which a hole drilling was not possible through the conventional machining process, enhanced the capacity of ED-drilling by adding MbSi$_2$, relative to that of SiC or ZrO$_2$reinforcements.

  • Lanthanum zirconate, $La_2Zr_2O_7$, is one of the most promising candidates for next-generation thermal barrier coating (TBC) applications in high efficient gas turbines due to its low thermal conductivity and chemical stability at high temperature. In this study, bulk specimens and thermal barrier coatings are fabricated via a variety of sintering processes as well as suspension plasma spray in lanthanum zirconates with reduced rare-earth contents. The phase formation, microstructure, and thermo-physical properties of these oxide ceramics and coatings are examined. In particular, lanthanum zirconates with reduced rare-earth contents in a $La_2Zr_2O_7-4YSZ$ composite system exhibit a single phase of fluorite or pyrochlore after fabricated by suspension plasma spray or spark plasma sintering. The potential of lanthanum zirconate ceramics for TBC applications is also discussed.

  • Thermal barrier systems have been widely investigated over the past decades, in order to enhance reliability and efficiency of gas turbines at higher temperatures. Yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) is one of the most leading materials as the thermal barriers due to its low thermal conductivity, thermodynamic stability, and thermal compatibility with metal substrates. In this work, rare-earth oxides with pyrochlore phases for thermal barrier systems were investigated. Pyrochlore phases were successfully formed via solid-state reactions started from rare-earth oxide powders. For the heat-treated samples, thermo-physical properties were examined. These rare-oxide oxides showed thermal expansion of $9{\sim}12{\times}10^{-6}/K$ and thermal conductivity of 1.2~2.4 W/mK, which is comparable with the thermal properties of YSZ.

  • In order to comply with demand for high efficient gas turbines operating at higher temperatures, considerable amounts of research efforts have been performed with searching for the next-generation thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) with respect to coating materials as well as processing methods. In this study, thermal barrier coatings in the $(La_{1-x}Gd_x)_2Zr_2O_7$ system, which is one of the most versatile materials replacing yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ), are fabricated by suspension plasma spray with suspension made of synthesized powders via solidstate reaction. Dense, $100{\sim}400{\mu}m$ thick coatings of fluorite-phase zirconate with moderate amount of segmented microstructures are obtained by using suspension plasma spray. Phase formation and thermal diffusivity are characterized with coating compositions. The feasibility of $(La_{1-x}Gd_x)_2Zr_2O_7$ coatings for TBC applications is also discussed.
