  • Leaking of fuel gas in a building creates flammable atmosphere and gives rise to explosion. Observations from accidents suggest that some explosions are caused by quantity of gas significantly less than the lower explosion limit amount required to fill the whole confined space, which might be attributed to inhomogeneous mixing of the leaked gas. The minimum amount of leaked gas for explosion is highly dependent on the degree of mixing in the building. This paper proposes a method for estimating minimum amount of flammable gas for explosion assuming Gaussian distribution of flammable gas.

  • This paper introduces stress monitoring system for buried gas pipeline in poor ground. During the six months of improvement construction of poor ground, maximum settlement of gas pipeline is about 40 cm. This value represents relative small compared to the initial settlement estimation of ground improvement construction plan, 90 cm. Also, this paper includes the result of finite element analysis of gas pipeline to confirm safety of pipelines in poor ground. The stress monitoring system for gas pipeline was developed to guarantee the safety of buried gas pipeline in poor ground. Eventually, the ground improvement workings are ended safely and it is proved that the pipeline has no safety problem.

  • This study explored the health hazard of those exposed to methylene chloride by assessing its atmospheric concentration when a tear gas mixture was aerially dispersed. The concentration of methylene chloride ranged from 311.1-980.3 ppm (geometric mean, 555.8 ppm), 30 seconds after the dispersion started. However, the concentration fell rapidly to below 10 ppm after dispersion was completed. The concentration during the dispersion did not surpass the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health 'immediately dangerous to life or health' value of 2,300 ppm, but did exceed the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists excursion limit of 250 ppm. Since methylene chloride is highly volatile (vapor pressure, 349 mmHg at $20^{\circ}C$), the post-dispersion atmospheric concentration can rise instantaneously. Moreover, the o-chlorobenzylidenemalononitrile formulation of tear gas (CS gas) is an acute upper respiratory tract irritant. Therefore, tear gas mixtures should be handled with delicate care.

  • In this work, procedure evaluating failure modes such as pipe rupture, large scale leak, and small scale leak was suggested using equations to assess remaining strength by corrosion failure. Additionally, the method to predict probability of failure was suggested according to the aforementioned failure modes, and by combining data on corrosion rate, probability of long-term failure can be induced. This work will be very useful in predicting lifetime or exchanging period of pipeline.

  • The pressure safety valve is very important device for securing the safety in the facilities which is operated by high pressure gases. The performance test should be periodically inspected by relate law because the failure of pressure safety valves might be main causes of serious accidents in the industrial fields. Shop test is mainly use for inspecting the performance test of pressure safety valves but the test method is not to be a solution for securing the safety. So, the development of alternative method is required. In this paper, there is a limit to securing the safety if the performance test is with just shop test. The limitation is checked from analysis result based on performance test results of pressure safety valves. The necessity for introducing the in-service test is reviewed to surmount the limitation. As a result, in-service test method should be developed and introduced to improve the inspection efficiency and economical loss. Also, it can be reduce the risk level.

  • The fuel cell is one of the renewable energy sources. And it is a new source of energy that can be applied to various fuels and continuously supported by the excellent city-gas infrastructure. It is important to improve performances and reliabilities, and reduce the cost of fuel cell systems for commercialization. And, some safety performances of blower domestically produced are evaluated and some improvements are researched to save the cost of fuel cell systems. In this paper, the performance and worst stress condition of blowers are evaluated in operating environment similar to the fuel cell systems. Actually, the correlation of flow, leakage and thermal behavior are evaluated in the worst stress condition at $70^{\circ}C$ and, some major factors of blower degradation such as a motor deterioration, material and structures of the outlet are examined.

  • Aluminum liners used in cylinders are hazardous for human health. In this study, we use a plastic PA liner inside cylinders to solve this problem. Plastic PA liners are widely used in the manufacturing industry in the production of food and beverage containers. We covered the aluminum boss with a plastic liner material and wound the composite fibers over the liner material. To reinforce the dome area, we used low strength / high elongation plastic liner. To predict the performance of the developed product, we conducted structural analyses utilizing the 3D laminated solid element. We verified the soundness of the product by testing the prototype.

  • Major producers have already built compressors since World War I and have been monopolizing all domestic and overseas markets based on the accumulated technology, and the dependency of the manufacturers over the entire industry is deepening. Therefore, it is expected that the technological gap with developed countries will be larger without development of the related technology. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a unique technology for a new type of high efficiency compression system. In this study, we present localization of Hydraulic Compressor which can meet the technical trends such as cost reduction, efficiency improvement, environmental friendliness, wide operating range, low capacity / high capacity compatibility, size reduction, easy operation and easy maintenance.
