  • In this paper, a new capacitive pressure sensor has been proposed for a displacement measurement. The new sensor is mainly composed of a gap of $5{\mu}m$ and a notch of $1{\mu}m$. And the sensor has the performance as the high sensitivity and capacitance compared with a commercial capacitive sensor. Therefore, the advantages of the new capacitive pressure sensor are good sensitivity in normal range, mechanically robust and large overload protection. The analytical model is induced for confirming the performance of the proposed sensor. In addition, FEM (finite elements method) simulation has been performed to verify the analytical model. Firstly, the displacement characteristics of diaphragm membrane were simulated by the analytical model and FEM in the case of different structure and materials. At last, through this analysis, these simulation results can be predicted the change of the performance when the device parameters are varied. And it is used as a design tool to achieve at a set of performance we desired.

  • A new concept of piezoelectric smart panels for noise reduction in wide band frequencies is proposed and their possibility is experimentally investigated. The proposed panels are based on active and passive methods. They use piezoelectric smart structure technology for active noise reduction at low band frequencies and passive sound absorbing materials for mid-range of noise frequencies. To prove the concept of piezoelectric smart panels, an acoustic measurement experiment was performed. The smart panels exhibit a good noise reduction in middle and high frequency ranges due to the mass effects of absorbing materials or/and the air gap. The use of piezoelectric smart panel renders noise reduction large at resonance frequency. Another concept of smart panel that uses piezoelectric damping is experimentally investigated. Since piezoelectric dampings can reduce vibration and noise at resonance frequencies with simple shunt circuit, they have merits in terms of economy and simplicity. Dissipated energy method(DEM) is adopted to tune the shunt circuit precisely in piezoelectric dampings. Noise reduction at multiple resonance frequencies is demonstrated.

  • Recently, the in-line vision inspection has become the subject of growing research area in the visual control systems and robotic intelligent fields that are required exact three-dimensional pose. The objective of this article is to study the pc based in line visual inspection with the hand-eye structure. This paper suggests three dimensional structured light measuring principle and design method of laser sensor header. The hand-eye laser sensor have been studied for a long time. However, it is very difficult to perform kinematical analysis between laser sensor and robot because the complicated mathematical process are needed for the real environments. In this problem, this paper will propose auto-calibration concept. The detail process of this methodology will be described. A new thinning algorithm and constrained hough transform method is also explained in this paper. Consequently, the developed in-line inspection module demonstrate the successful operation with hole, gap, width or V edge.

  • A light guide panel (LGP) is an element of the LCD back light unit, which is used for display devices. In this study, the laser marking process is applied to the fabrication of light guide panels as the new fabrication process. In order to obtain a light guide panel which has high luminance and uniformity, four principal parameters such as power, scanning speed, ratio of line gap, and number of line were selected. A Web-based design tool was developed to generate patterns of light guide panel at any location, and the tool may assist the designer to develop optimized patterns. Topcon-BM7 was used for luminance measurement of each specimen with $100mm{\times}100mm$ area. By Taguchi method optimized levels of each parameters were found, and luminance of $3523cd/cm^2$ and uniformity of 92% were achieved using the laser machined BLU.

  • Magnetic levitation systems using the attraction force of electromagnets have many constraints according to the variation of air gap and the nonlinearity of electromagnetic force and inductances. As a result of these constraints, the nonlinear control of a magnetic levitation system has been improved by the latest advanced processors and accurate measurement system which can overcome problems such as many constraints and nonlinearity. This paper concentrates on the modeling of a nonlinear magnetic levitation system and an application of an exponential reaching law based sliding mode controller using the exponential reaching law which is one of the most robust controllers against external unexpected disturbances or parameter fluctuations. Controllability of a magnetic levitation system using the sliding mode control algorithm and robustness against parameter fluctuations have been verified through the experimental results.

  • Despite the wide industrial applications of planetary gear trains, the relationship between the design parameters (tooth profile, carrier mass, etc.) and performance (strength, vibration, noise, etc.) remains poorly understood. A significant amount of research has focused on transmission errors, which are measurable performance indicators directly related to the design parameters. Herein, an experimental test rig for a single-stage planetary gear set built using digital angular encoders and gap sensors is described. To study the static and dynamic characteristics of this planetary gear train, the transmission errors and sun gear orbit are analyzed from the data measured under various levels of torque and speed. The transmission errors of the gear train decrease 40% when the speed increases from 30 to 600 rpm with an output torque of 39.2 Nm, and increase 22% when the output torque increases from 19.6 to 39.2 Nm with an input speed of 30 rpm.

  • This paper presents an automated computer vision-based system to update BIM data by leveraging multi-modal visual data collected from existing buildings under inspection. Currently, visual inspections are conducted for building envelopes or mechanical systems, and auditors analyze energy-related contextual information to examine if their performance is maintained as expected by the design. By translating 3D surface thermal profiles into energy performance metrics such as actual R-values at point-level and by mapping such properties to the associated BIM elements using XML Document Object Model (DOM), the proposed method shortens the energy performance modeling gap between the architectural information in the as-designed BIM and the as-is building condition, which improve the reliability of building energy analysis. Several case studies were conducted to experimentally evaluate their impact on BIM-based energy analysis to calculate energy load. The experimental results on existing buildings show that (1) the point-level thermography-based thermal resistance measurement can be automatically matched with the associated BIM elements; and (2) their corresponding thermal properties are automatically updated in gbXML schema. This paper provides practitioners with insight to uncover the fundamentals of how multi-modal visual data can be used to improve the accuracy of building energy modeling for retrofit analysis. Open research challenges and lessons learned from real-world case studies are discussed in detail.

  • We investigated the structural, electrical and optical characteristics of IGZO thin films deposited by a room-temperature RF reactive magnetron sputtering. The thin films deposited were annealed for 2 hours at various temperatures of 300, 400, 500 and $600^{\circ}C$ and analyzed by using X-ray diffractometer, transmission electron microscopy, atomic force microscope and Hall effects measurement system. The films annealed at $600^{\circ}C$ were found to be crystallized and their surface roughness was decreased from 0.73 nm to 0.67 nm. According to XPS measurements, concentration of oxygen vacancies were decreased at $600^{\circ}C$. Optical band gap were increased to 3.31eV. The carrier concentration and Hall mobility were sharply increased at 600oC. Our results indicate that the IGZO films deposited at a room temperature can show better thin film properties through a heat treatment.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the displacements of cast framework by torch soldering and electric soldering techniques. Specimen had two cylinders and connecting bar that had sectioned with 0.3mm gap at mid point. 10 of total specimens were divided into two groups. In torch soldered group, soldering investment block was made and conventional torch solder-ing procedure was carried out. In electric soldered group, electric soldering was carried out on the master cast without soldering investment block by using electric soldering machine(Dentapunkt DP 7, Kulzer, Germany) After soldering procedure, three dimensional coordinates of two centroids of each cylinder were measured by three dimensional coordinate measuring machine. The intercentroidal displacement and global displacement were calculated and then, these values were compared and evaluated. The results were obtained as follows: 1. Intercentroidal distances of specimens decreased after both soldering procedures, and the decrease in intercentroidal distance was greater for torch soldered group than for electric soldered group 2. Global displacements of torch soldered group were greater than those of electric soldered group.
