Analyzing the Ecosystem of the Domestic Online Game Industry : Focusing on the Linkage between Developers and Publishers (국내 온라인 게임 산업 생태계 분석 : 개발사-퍼블리셔 관계를 중심으로)

  • This study aims to analyze the structure and characteristics of the domestic online game industry using network analysis. In particular, two-mode network analysis is employed to measure the network structure, centrality, and cluster for two types of online game platforms, online games and mobile games, from 1996 to 2014. We also conduct a dynamic analysis to capture the structural changes in the ecosystem by internal and external environmental changes before and after turning point for each online game platform. It is revealed that the online game econsystem has the higher number of clusters and higher concentration ratio than those of mobile game ecosystem. In dynamic analysis, both platforms exhibit similar trends over time with the increasing number of clusters, enlargement of largest cluster's size, and decreasing concentration ratio. This study is expected to provide fruitful implications for strategic decision making of online game companies and policy making for the online game industry.

Comparative Analysis of Global Game Screening Systems (세계 게임 심의제도 비교분석)

  • Almost all of the nations run a game screening system which is characteristic depending on their communication policy. This article attempted comparative analysis about major nation's game screening systems by comparing three main aspects of their communication policy which are freedom of expression, complete opening of the contents to the public, and the balance between protection of adolescent and promotion of industry. It is shown that the screening system of USA, Europe and Japan stick well by the basic principles of communication policy, on the other hand Korea, South Africa Republic and Australia have some points that need improvement.

The Relative Importance and Priority of Game Contents Industry Policy (게임콘텐츠산업정책의 우선순위에 대한 연구)

  • This research studied how game contents related experts recognize the transition of contents industries in intellectual information era. This study also studied experts' priorities of evaluation elements in contents industry policies. For this, Analytic Hierarchy Process was utilized to analyze the relative importance and priorities of evaluation elements in contents industry policies. According to the analysis, the order of priorities was 'strengthening content technology', 'training content experts', 'improving the contents-related system' and 'strengthening content usage and consumer safety'. Also, in complex importance analysis, 'strengthening R&D system for content' was gauge as the most important element. In the analysis about each related group's thinking, industries and policy institutes considered 'strengthening content technology' important and academia evaluated 'training content experts' as the most important one.

  • This study explored the current supply status on Contents Technology R&D(research and development) and friendly function Game Industry targeting to elderly consumers. The game contents including the functional components are categorized the sixth category of CT R&D's fundamental planning. The function game targeting to elderly focused on emotional and physical recovering to barrier, user friendliness, simplicity and certainty of game performance. The purpose of game participation are health, well-being, psychological wellness and communication. The functional game consisted of various version procedure by socio-demographic, the accessibility to game media and device.

  • In this research, we analyze change of directions and issues in future game industry. We start to analyze change of game contents and platform about impact of game industry under the digital convergence, and then we spread out a point of view about game user, game company, distribution of game industry over the length and breadth of game industry. In this paper, we analyze the future state of changing and the issues in online game industry under the digital convergence. For this research, we develop the on-line game industry's changing scenario. On the basis of the issue analysis about the future of the On-line game industry, we aim to provide some implications for business strategy of on-line game companies and policy of the government.

  • The game policy in China takes the way of promoting the development of domestic enterprises through protecting the growth of those. In order to improve the development of domestic game industry, it will maintain the policy that restrict the import of overseas game. However, as to the domestic enterprise, it will develop the aid policy in the form of encouraging overseas export. For the characteristics of wide audience, long life term and easy to be developed, the class game of flags and cartes has become a very significant field of game industry. But for the gamble characteristics of the class game of flags and cartes, it also becomes the center for the government of making regulations and policies.   • Recently, the number of users has risen sharply while the development speed of the Chinese game industry is rapidly developing. The game industry has already become a promising industry in China's cultural industry. With the rapid development of the Chinese game industry, the demand for specialized game designers and game development personnel is urgent. Still, at present, it is difficult for graduates to get a job at a game company every year even if a new game design department is established at a Chinese university. This may be due to a conflict between the education of the game major in the game market. In this paper, we present a customized development strategy while summarizing the problems that existed in the Chinese game design department in the rapidly developing background of the game industry, Try to provide a valuable opinion. and use it as a reference for the future development of education in the Chinese game major.

  • Recently, Transition to the epoch of world has put an emphasis on the contents that has been emerging as the value of world economy. Consequently the core of industry is moving from IT industry to culture contents industry. Especially Game Industry among the culture contents industry is estimated that it will be the biggest power of influence in size and social influence. Game Industry is one of the high value-added, knowledge-based industries whose market is increasing faster than any other cultural industries. And game industry includes the technology, culture, cultural science and industry. It effectively symbolizes the character of synthetic entertainment industry in comparison with another industry. Also Game Industry is embedding as the superpower industry that competent to draw the whole development of culture industry because game development is intensifying into One-Source Multi-Use. It is important finding of this paper that it is necessary to ensure the competitive power and understand value and character of contents and to project the policy of human power and technology of Game Industry.

  • This study examined how news has covered games since the decision to include gaming disorder in ICD-11. Data were 694 news article on games in five major newspapers. The results indicated the following: While the proportion of reports on game industry was high, those reports were mainly straight news announcing industry status and corporate management status. Reports on game policy focused on regulations, particularly game addiction or disorder. Reports on game uses and effects showed very low rates, but they have followed the existing practices of reporting games as the cause of extreme crimes and deviant behaviors.
