  • This paper presents the results of the galvanic anode's characteristicsin the Al-Zn-In-Mg and Al-Zn-In-Mg system anodes used aluminium ingot of low purity, 99.5% grade. The results of thses performance tests are as follows: 1) Zn, In and Mg are an available elements to improve the performance of Aluminium alloy anodes. 2) When the range of zinc content in the Al-Zn-In-Mg system anode is 2-5% the more zinc content, the more improve the anode performance. 3) Al-Zn-In-Mg system anode requires a long term over 50 days for the performance test. 4) The composition of Al-Zn-In-Mg system anode which shows the most excellent performance is Al-(2-3%) Zn-(0.02%) In-(1.0%) Mg. 5) When the Al-Zn-In-Mg system anode is annealed for an hour in 500 to 550 .deg. C, the anode performance is improved. 6) The lower average potential and the better corrosion pattern in the Al-Zn-Mg, Al-Zn-In and Al-Zn-In-Mg system anodes, the more current efficiency is improved.

  • The literature of present study was performed with content of chloride by total 6 level. After casting, and then, to measure the results of corrosion in a quick time used accelerated method of corrosion during 20 weeks. Both Galvanic and Half-cell for 20 weeks was used to model the initial time to corrosion, and then current of corrosion was measured by using Linear polarization at the end of cycling. The processing of steel used in concrete is same way as the case of mortar and also the initial time of corrosion was measured.

  • Stainless steel has been stably used closed by passivity oxidation films($Cr_2O_3$) is made by neutral atmospheric environment. However, passivity oxidation films of the surface of stainless steel occasionally comes to be destroyed in seawater which is influenced by an environment having halogen ion like $Cl^-$, then, localization corrosion comes to occur. Stainless steel 304 for shaft system material of the small-size FRP fishing boat on seawater environments made an experiment on simulation of sacrifical anode(Al, Zn). Through these experiment and study, following results have been obtained ; According to the field inspection and corrosion simulation, the corrosion on the 2nd class stainless steel shaft(STS 304) in FRP fishing boat has been verified to occur by crevice corrosion and galvanic corrosion etc.. According to the comparison and analysis of Stainless steel 304 shaft materials after simulation leaving unprotected and applying cathodic protection, unprotected shaft specimen of stainless steel 304 was severely corroded, but, protected shaft specimen was not totally corroded. This result is assumed to be made by the facts that anodic reaction, $Fe{\rightarrow}Fe^{2+}$ + $2e^-$, has been restricted by the cathodic protection current of sacrificial anode material.

  • A study on the corrosion behavior in case of As-welded and PWHT temperature 55$0^{\circ}C$ of welding part of RE36 steel for marine structure was investigated with parameters such as micro-Vickers hardness, corrosion potential measurement of weld metal(WM), base metal(BM) and heat affected zone(HAZ), both Al anode generating current and Al anode weight loss quantity under sacrificial anode cathodic protection conditions. And also we carried out slow strain rate test(SSRT) in order to research both limiting cathodic polarization potential for hydrogen embrittlement and optimum cathodic protection potential as well as mechanical properties by post-weld heat treatment(PWHT) effect. Hardness of HAZ was the highest among three parts(WM, BM and HAZ) and the highest galvanic corrosion susceptibility was HAZ. And the optimum cathodic polarization potential showing the best mechanical properties by SSRT method was from -770mV to -875mV(SCE). In analysis of SEM fractography, applied cathodic potential from -770mV to -875mV(SCE) it appeared dimple pattern with ductile fracture while it showed transgranular pattern (Q. C : quasicleavage) under -900mV(SCE). However it is suggested that limiting cathodic polarization potential indicating hydrogen embrittlement was under -900mV(SCE).

  • This paper explored the viability of utilising titanium alloy bolts in the construction industry through an experimental programme, where a total of sixty-six titanium alloy (Ti/6Al/4V) bolts were tested under axial tension, pure shear and combined tension and shear. In addition, a series of Charpy V-notch specimens machined from titanium alloy bolts, conventional high-strength steel bolts, austenitic and duplex stainless steel bolts were tested for impact toughness comparisons. The obtained experimental results demonstrated that the axial tensile and pure shear capacities of titanium alloy bolts can be reasonably estimated by the current design standards for steel structures (Eurocode 3, AS 4100 and AISC 360). However, under the combined tension and shear loading conditions, significant underestimation by Eurocode 3 and unsafe predictions through AS 4100 and AISC 360 indicate that proper modifications are necessary to facilitate the safe and economic use of titanium alloy bolts. In addition, numerical models were developed to calibrate the fracture parameters of the tested titanium alloy bolts. Furthermore, a design-based selection process of titanium alloy bolts in the structural applications was proposed, in which the ultimate strength, ductility performance and corrosion resistance (including galvanic corrosion) of titanium alloy bolts was mainly considered.

  • Hydration products formed on the steel surface may impose the resistance to corrosion of steel when a concrete is exposed to a salt environment. In the present study, ordinary Portland cement (OPC), calcium aluminate cement (CAC) and calcium hydroxide are applied as coating materials on the steel surface to consider the hydrations of each binder at corrosion. Corrosion is measured in terms of the corrosion potential and galvanic current to detect the effects in mitigating the corrosion behavior.

  • The galvanic corrosion of a vessel, or systems fitted to minimize the ship's corrosion such as ICCP(Impressed Current Cathodic Protection) system and sacrificial anodes, can lead to significant electrical current flow in the sea. The presence of vessel's current sources associated with corrosion will give rise to detectable electric field surrounding the vessel and can put it at risk from mine threats. For this reason, it is necessary to design corrosion protection systems so that they don't only prevent a hull corrosion but also minimize the electric field signature. In this paper, we describe theoretical backgrounds of underwater electric field signature due to corrosion and corrosion protection system on naval vessels and analysis results of the electric field according to ICCP anode arrangement.

  • The influences of sensitization on localized corrosion resistance of 304 stainless steel, were investigated, using micro-dropletcell techniques. Micro-droplet cell allows one to align the micro-electrode to the desired spot of the working electrode and measure directly local current with the potentiodynamic polarization, linear polarization and a.c. impedance. Micro-electrochemical tests were carried out inside of the grain and on grain boundaries separately. It was found that sensitization decreased the pitting potential, increasing corrosion current density around grain boundaries. Galvanic current density was also measured between grain and grain boundaries.
