  • Since Cubists represented a way of expressing image moving away from traditional illusion effect, new realities represented by collage and assemblage. Furthermore, Marcel Duchamp, a French Dadaist, suggested the concept of ready-made that everyday objects exhibited in an odd way in a gallery. These early fine art cases highly influenced to furniture design in the second half of the twentieth century. The use of objects in contemporary furniture is closely related to the emergence of Pop Art in the late 1950s and that of Postmodernism. After the 1970s the use of found objects were frequently utilized in furniture design of all over the countries. As an ecological issue became a new consideration to furniture designers, found objects also gave a chance to use recycled materials. Even in studio furniture area which is considered wood as a major material at the early stage, many studio furniture designers began to adapt found objects in their designs as a new source of Inspiration after the 1970s. This study explored various examples of found objects in furniture design and examined the meaning of the use in different designers and regions.

  • Fatigue life of a Piston for large liquid Petroleum liquid injection(LPLi) bus engines is analyzed considering effects of cooling condition parameters : temperature of cooling water, and heat transfer coefficients at oil gallery and bottom surface of piston head. Temperature of the piston is analyzed with varying cooling conditions Stresses of the piston from two load cases of pressure loading. and pressure and thermal loading are analyzed Fatigue life under repeated peak pressure and thermal cycle is analyzed by the strain-life theory. For the two load cases, required loading cycles for engine life are defined, and loading cycles to failure and partial damages are calculated. Based on the resulting accumulated fatigue usage factors, endurance of the piston is evaluated and effects of varying cooling condition Parameters are discussed.

  • Social media comprises a vast and consequential landscape that has been poorly mapped and understood. Hundreds of millions of people have eagerly moved many of the conversations and discussions that compose civil society into these services and platforms. There is a need to document and analyze these social spaces for many academic and commercial purposes. The Social Media Research Foundation has engaged a strategy to cultivate better research into the structure and dynamics of social media. The foundation is dedicated to the creation of open tools, open data, and open scholarship related to social media. It has implemented a free and open network collection, analysis, and visualization tool called NodeXL to facilitate social media network research. Using NodeXL a group of researchers has collectively authored a publicly available archive, called the NodeXL Graph Gallery, composed of network data sets and visualizations from users around the world. This site has enabled the aggregation of tens of thousands of network datasets and images. Use of the archive has led to scholarly research results that are based on the wide range and scope of social media data sets available.

  • Clay-dispersed nanocomposites have been prepared by simple melt-mixing of two components, styrenic polymers with different content of functional groups and two different organophilic clays (Cloisite(R) 25A and Cloisite(R)30A) with a twin screw extruder. Dispersibility of 10-$\AA$-thick silicate layers of clay in the hybrid was investigated by using an X-ray diffraction method and a transmission electron microscope. It was found that if the interaction force between intercalant and matrix polymer is attractive, the matrix polymer intercalates more rapidly into the gallery of silicate layers. The faster intercalation of matrix polymer leads to the better dispersibility of silicate layers in the matrix polymer.

  • A new type of cut method, called SK-cut, was developed in order to overcome the shortcomings of the conventional V-cut and Burn-cut blasting methods. Total 190 times of test blasts were performed for the evaluation of the efficiency of new blasting method. V-cut, Burn cut and SK-cut were compared by applying them to the excavation of main gallery and construction tunnel of underground oil storage cavern. Test results showed that excavation efficiency of the new method was increased by 5.9~9.8% and that specific charge was reduced to 71~92%.

• This paper presents a hybrid method for recognizing the faces by using principal component analysis(PCA) and fixed-point independent component analysis(FP-ICA). PCA is used to whiten the data, which reduces the effects of second-order statistics to the nonlinearities. FP-ICA is applied to extract the statistically independent features of face image. The proposed method has been applied to the problems for recognizing the 20 face images(10 persons * 2 scenes) of 324*243 pixels from Yale face database. The 3 distances such as city-block, Euclidean, negative angle are used as measures when match the probe images to the nearest gallery images. The experimental results show that the proposed method has a superior recognition performances(speed, rate). The negative angle has been relatively achieved more an accurate similarity than city-block or Euclidean.

  • The viscosity effect of matrix polymer on melt exfoliation behavior of an organoclay in poly($\varepsilon$-caprolactone) (PCL) was investigated. The viscosity of matrix polymer was controlled by changing the molecular weight of poly($\varepsilon$-eaprolactone), the processing temperature, and the rotor speed of a mini-molder. Applied shear stress facilitates the diffusion of polymer chains into the gallery of silicate layers by breaking silicate agglomerates down into smaller primary particles. When the viscosity of PCL is lower, silicate agglomerates are not perfectly broken into smaller primary particles. At higher viscosity, all of silicate agglomerates are broken down into primary particles, and finally into smaller nano-scale building blocks. It was also found that the degree of exfoliation of silicate layers is dependent upon not only the viscosity of matrix but thermodynamic variables.

  • The GaAs semiconductor whispering gallery modes, produced in the peripheral Rayleigh band region of W/sub Rayleigh/ = (${\Phi}$/2)( 1-n/sub eff/n), exhibit novel properties of ultralow thresholds open to nano-ampere regime associated with photonic quantum ring (PQR) production (Fig 1 (a)). The PQR phenomena are associated with a photonic field-driven phase transition of quantum well(QW)-to-quantum wire (QWR) and hence the photonic (non-de Broglie) quantum corral effects, on the Rayleigh cavity confined carriers in dynamic steady state, occur as schematically shown in Fig 1. • The rapid increase in the penetration rate and diverse utility of smart devices opens an opportunity for a development in creating a user-oriented ubiquitous system. And it allows audiences to deploy the exhibition-helping contents regardless of the restriction of place and time with using the smart devices of audience themselves. Also it needs to build a mobile web-based portal system for the related services. To do this, Firstly, it needs the corresponding strategies on a smartphone-based environment such as technical competence, systematic preparation of exhibition with compatible mobile contents, and a compatible channel for interactivity. Secondly, it needs the differentiation of exhibition guide with the existing system: an adoption of augmented reality, panoramic technology and simulation effect aiming for an improvement in a sense of immersion and reality for audience, and building up additional contents with a diversity of formats of image, sound, and video for customer satisfaction.
