  • This paper proposes suitable gait generation for dynamic walking of biped robot with varying load in real time. Author proposes the relationship between ZMP(Zero Moment Point) and measurement from FSR(Force Sensing Register). Simplifying this relationship, it is possible to reduce the computational time and control the biped robot in real time. If the weight of the biped robot varies in order to move some object, then joint trajectories of the the biped robot must be changed. When some object is loaded on the biped robot in it's home position, FSRs can measure the variation of weight. Evaluating the relations between varying load and stable gait of the biped robot, it can walk adaptively. This relation enables the biped robot to walk properly with varying load. The simulation is also represented in this paper which shows proposed relationships.

  • This paper deals with the gait generation of IWR-III using a kick action to have a walking pattern like human. For this, trajectory planning with the consideration of kick action is done in each walking step, and the coordinate transformation is done for simplifying the kinematics. Balancing motion is analyzed by FDM during the walking, By combining 4-types of pre-defined steps, multi-step walking is done. Using numerical simulator, dynamic analysis, ZMP analysis and system stability is confirmed. Walking motion is visualized by 3D- graphic simulator. As a result, trunk ahead motion effect and impactless smooth walking is implemented by experiment. Finally walking with kick action is implemented the IWR-III system.

  • This paper deals with a human-like gait generation of a biped robot with a balancing weight of an inverted pendulum type by using genetic algorithm. The ZMP (Zero Moment Point) is the most important index in a biped robot's dynamic walking stability. To perform a stable walking of a biped robot, a balancing motion is required according to legs' trajectories and a desired ZMP trajectory. A dynamic equation of the balancing motion is nonlinear due to an inverted pendulum type's balancing weight. To solve the nonlinear equation by the FDM (Finite Difference Method), a linearized model of equation is proposed. And GA (Genetic Algorithm) is applied to optimize a human-like balancing motion of a biped robot. By genetic algorithm, the index of the balancing motion is efficiently optimized, and a dynamic walking stability is verified by the ZMP verification equation. These balancing motion are simulated and experimented with a real biped robot IWR-IV. This human-like gait generation will be applied to a humanoid robot, at future work.

  • In this paper ZMP was considered in order to get a walking stability, so the gait in the stable domain was realized through putting the stability margin in the sole domain of a foot. It is assumed that the robot's legs have 12 joints to operate a open-loop drive and there was no external disturbance under walking phases, additionally, the robot is walking on the flat plane. It was observed that the robot's walking trajectory, locus of COM and ZMP after imposing the motion to each joint. For realizing the simulation considering ZMP and movement of mass center, it was checked if it is stable for the constraint robot model to walk in stability and the feasibility was estimated about its dynamic gait. Eventually it was shown that a constraint gait algorithm is able to realize. To verify the proper walking process, ZMP(Zero Moment Point) theory is applied and the simulation has been done by ADAMS.

  • When a robot navigates in the real environment, it frequently meets various environments that can be expressed by simple geometrical shapes such as fiat floor, uneven floor, floor with obstacles, slopes, concave or convex corners, etc. Among them, the convex corner composed of two plain surfaces is the most difficult one for the robot to negotiate. In this paper, we propose a gait planning algorithm to help the robot overcome the convex environment. The trajectory of the body is derived from the maximum distance between the edge boundary of the corner and the bottom of the robot when it travels in the convex environment. Additionally, we find the relation between kinematical structure of the robot and its ability of avoiding collision. The relation is realized by considering the workspace and the best posture of the robot in the convex structure. To provide necessary information for the algorithm, we use an IR sensor attached in the leg of the robot to perceive the convex environment. The validity of the gait planning algorithm is verified through simulations and the performance is demonstrated using a quadruped walking robot, called "MRWALLSPECT III"( Multifunctional Robot for WALL inSPECTion version 3).

  • One of the basic assumptions in the static gait design for a walking robot is that the weight of leg should be negligible compared to that of body, so that the total gravity center is not affected by swing of a leg. Based on the ideal assumption of zero leg-weight, conventional static gait has been simply designed for the gravity center of body to be inside the support polygon, consisting of each support leg's tip position. In case that the weight of leg is relatively heavy, however, while the gravity center of body is kept inside the support polygon, the total gravity center of walking robot can be out of the polygon due to weight of a swinging leg, which causes instability in walking. Thus, it is necessary in the static gait design of a real robot a compensation scheme for the fluctuation in the gravity center. In this paper, a body impedance control is proposed to obtain the total gravity center based on foot forces measured from load cells of a real walking robot and to adjust its position to track the pre-designed trajectory of the corresponding ideal robot's body center. Therefore, the walking stability is secured even in case that the weight of leg has serious influence on the total gravity center of robot.

  • Objective: This paper analyzes the changes on stride parameters, joint angles, and trajectories of the body parts due to high heels during walking and explains the causal relationship between the changes and high heels. Background: This study aims to indicate the comprehensive gait changes by high heels on the whole body for women wearing high heels and researchers interested in high-heeled walking. Method: The experiment was designed in which two different shoe heel heights were used for walking (1cm, 9.8cm), and twelve women participated in the test. In the experiment, 35 points on the body were tracked to extract the stride parameters, joint angles, and trajectories of the body parts. Results: Double support time increased, but stride length decreased in high-heeled walking. The knee inflexed more at stance phase and the spine rotation became more severe. The trajectories of the pelvis, the trunk and the head presented outstanding fluctuations in the vertical direction. Conclusion: The double support time and the spine rotation were changed to compensate instability by high heels. Reduced range of motion of the ankle joint influenced on the stride length, the knee flexion, and fluctuations of the body parts. Application: This study can provide an insight of the gait changes by high heels through the entire body.

  • The purpose of this study is to verify the energy efficiency of the integrated system combining human and a lower extremity exoskeleton robot when it is applied to the proposed gait pattern. Energy efficient gait pattern of the lower limb was proposed through leg function distribution during stance phase and the dynamic-manipulability ellipsoid (DME). To verify the feasibility and effect of the redefined gait trajectory, simulations and experiments were conducted under the conditions of walking on level ground and ascending and descending from a staircase. Experiments to calculate the metabolic cost of the human body with or without the assistance of the exoskeleton were conducted. The energy consumption of the lower extremity exoskeleton was assessed, with the aim of improving the efficiency of the integrated system.

  • In this paper, we propose a gait generation method for quadruped robots using the xz-axis sway of the quadruped robot, which minimizes the shake of the quadruped robot and maximizes the stability margin. In the proposed method, the gait is generated based on wave gaits and the stability analysis uses the body tilt information of the quadruped robot according to the leg's height of leg. In addition, to reduce the impact on the body caused by the z-axis sway while walking, the proposed method generates the smooth walking movement trajectory with less impact by using Fourier series. Finally, to verify the applicability and effectiveness of the proposed method, we carry out the computer simulations and the real walking experiments with the implemented quadruped robot.

  • This paper treats the implementation of a statically stable control system for a biped walking robot with 10 degrees-of-freedom. Statically stable walking of a biped robot can be realized by keeping the center of mass (COM) inside the sole of the supporting foot (or feet) during single-support or double-support phases. We predetermined five static positions for walking based on the COM method. The positions can be represented by the length of the gait, the width between the feet, the height of the foot and two parameters in the hip movement. With the five parameters, we calculated the position trajectory. And we got the angular trajectories of 10 joints from the posit ion trajectory using the position tracking control and neural network. By tracking the angular trajectories, the robot can walk maintaining stability. We implemented walking of a biped robot throught the above ...
