  • This paper tackles the problem of designing a dynamic output-feedback control for linear discrete-time norm-bounded uncertain systems with input saturation. By employing a LPV (Linear Parameter Varying) instead of LTI (Linear Time-Invariant) control, the useful information on interpolation parameters appearing in the procedure of representing saturation nonlinearity as a convex polytope is additionally applied in the control design procedure. By solving the addressed problem that can be recast into a convex optimization problem characterized by LMIs (Linear Matrix Inequalities) with one prescribed scalar, the vertices of convex set containing an LPV output-feedback control gain and the associated maximal invariant set of initial states are simultaneously obtained.

  • In this paper, we present a non-fragile guaranteed cost control design method for uncertain nonlinear systems with time varying delays in state and control input, even though the controller gain is perturbed. The uncertain nonlinear term in the systems is norm bounded and the linear matrix inequality(LMI) optimization method is employed as a stability analysis of the systems. We design a robust controller and show the asymptotical stability of uncertain time-varying systems based on Lyapunov method. Also, we guarantee a specific level of performance of the systems. The simulations are carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • This paper considers the robust controller design problem for a boost DC-DC converter. Based on the Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model-based approach, a fuzzy controller as well as a fuzzy load conductance observer are designed. Sufficient conditions for the existence of the controller and the observer are derived using Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMIs). LMI parameterizations of the gain matrices are obtained. Additionally, LMI conditions for the existence of the fuzzy controller and the fuzzy load observer guaranteeing α-stability, quadratic performance are derived. The exponential stability of the augmented fuzzy observer-controller system is shown. It is also shown that the fuzzy load observer and the fuzzy controller can be designed independently. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method is verified via experimental and simulation results under various conditions.

  • This paper presents a adaptive fuzzy control suitable for motion control of multi-link robot manipulators with uncertainties. When joint velocities are available, full state adaptive fuzzy feedback control is designed to ensure the stability of the closed loop dynamic. If the joint velocities are not measurable, an observer is introduced and an adaptive output feedback control is designed based on the estimated velocities. To reduce the number of fuzzy rules of the fuzzy controller, we consider the properties of robot dynamics and the decomposition of the unknown input gain matrix. The proposed controller is robust against uncertainties and external disturbances. The validity of the control scheme is demonstrated by computer simulations on a two-link robot manipulator.

  • A Robust controller is designed for cascaded nonlinear uncertain systems that can be decomposed into two subsystems; that is, a series connection of two nonlinear subsystems, such as a robot manipulator with actuators. For such systems, a recursive design is used to include the second subsystem in the robust control. The recursive design procedure contains two steps. First, a fictitious robust controller for the first subsystem is designed as if the subsystem had an independent control. As the fictitious control, a nonlinear H(sub)$\infty$ control using energy dissipation is designed in the sense of L$_2$-gain attenuation from the disturbance caused by system uncertainties to performance vector. Second, the actual robust control is designed recursively by Lyapunovs second method. The designed robust control is applied to a robotic system with actuators, is which the physical control inputs are not the joint torques, but electrical signals to the actuators.

  • The deformation of a structure shall be called homologous, if a given geometrical relation holds, for a given number of structural points, before, during, and after the deformation. Some researchers have utilized the idea on structural design with finite element method. The approaches use the decomposition of the FEM equation or equality of eqality equations to obtain homologous deformation. However, weight reduction and response constraints such as stress, displacement or natural frequency cannot be considered by those theories. An optimization method solving the above problems is suggested to gain homologous deformation. Homology constraints can be considered under multiple loadindg conditions as well as a single loading condition. Homology index is defined for the multiple loading conditions Examples are solved to present the performances of the method.

  • This paper proposes a fuzzy speed tracking controller and a fuzzy rotor angular acceleration observer for a surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor (SPMSM) based on the Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model. The proposed observer-based controller is robust to load torque variations since it utilizes rotor angular acceleration information instead of the load torque value. Linear matrix inequality (LMI) sufficient conditions are given to compute the gain matrices of the speed tracking controller and the observer. In addition, it is mathematically verified that the proposed observer-based control system is asymptotically stable. Simulation and experimental results are presented to confirm that the proposed control algorithm assures a better transient behavior and less sensitivity under model parameter variations than the conventional PI control method.

  • This paper presents the HVDC system modelling for analysis of subsynchronous oscillation and the design of the subsynchronous oscillation damping controller in HVDC system with the aid of novel eigenvalue analysis program. The HVDC system models include both the steady-state model for power flow calculation and the dynamic model for constructing the state matrix. The design procedures of the subsynchronous oscillation damping controller (SODC), which is integrated with PI controller at rectifier, consist of three steps:1) to identify the dominant torsional oscillation mode in the AC/DC system;2) to determine the parameters of the SODC for compensating the phase lagging due to the rectifier controller;3) to validate the control parameters and to determine the appropriate gain using a time-domain simulation program. The proposed design method has been tested against two AC/DC systems for validation.

  • The modeling of 5-bar linkage robot manipulator dynamics by means of a mathematical and neural architecture is presented. Such a model is applicable to the design of a feedforward controller or adjustment of controller parameters. The inverse model consists of two parts: a mathematical part and a compensation part. In the mathematical part, the subsystems of a 5-bar linkage robot manipulator are constructed by applying Kawato's Feedback-Error-Learning method, and trained by given training data. In the compensation part, MLP backpropagation algorithm is used to compensate the unmodeled dynamics. The forward model is realized from the inverse model using the inverse of inertia matrix and the compensation torque is decoupled in the input torque of the forward model. This scheme can use tile mathematical knowledge of the robot manipulator and analogize the robot characteristics. It is shown that the model is reasonable to be used for design and initial gain tuning of a controller.

  • An implementation scheme of the magnetic nerve stimulator using a switching mode power supply is proposed. By using a switching mode power supply rather than a conventional linear power supply for charging high voltage capacitors, the weight and size of the magnetic nerve stimulator can be considerably reduced. Maximum output voltage of the developed magnetic nerve stimulator using the switching mode power supply is 3,000 volts and switching time is about 100 msec. Experimental results or human nerve stimulations using the developed stimulator are presented.
