  • This paper introduces a new architecture of genetically optimized self-organizing fuzzy polynomial neural networks by means of information granulation. The conventional SOFPNNs developed so far are based on mechanisms of self-organization and evolutionary optimization. The augmented genetically optimized SOFPNN using Information Granulation (namely IG_gSOFPNN) results in a structurally and parametrically optimized model and comes with a higher level of flexibility in comparison to the one we encounter in the conventional FPNN. With the aid of the information granulation, we determine the initial location (apexes) of membership functions and initial values of polynomial function being used in the premised and consequence part of the fuzzy rules respectively. The GA-based design procedure being applied at each layer of genetically optimized self-organizing fuzzy polynomial neural networks leads to the selection of preferred nodes with specific local characteristics (such as the number of input variables, the order of the polynomial, a collection of the specific subset of input variables, and the number of membership function) available within the network. To evaluate the performance of the IG_gSOFPNN, the model is experimented with using gas furnace process data. A comparative analysis shows that the proposed IG_gSOFPNN is model with higher accuracy as well as more superb predictive capability than intelligent models presented previously.

  • In this paper, an optimal idenfication method using fuzzy-neural networks is proposed for modeling of nonlinear complex systems. The proposed fuzzy-neural modeling implements system structure and parameter identification using the intelligent schemes together wlth optimization theory, linguistic fuzzy implication rules, and neural networks(NNs) from input and output data of processes. Inference type for this fuzzy-neural modeling is presented as simplified inference. To obtain optimal model, the learning rates and momentum coefficients of fuzzy-neural networks(FNNs) are tuned automatically using improved modified complex method and modified learning algorithm. For the purpose of its application to nonlinear processes, data for route choice of traffic problems and those for activateti sluge process of sewage treatment system are used for the purpose of evaluating the performance of the proposed fuzzy-neural network modeling. The results show that the proposed method can produce the intelligence model with higher accuracy than other works achieved previously.

  • The Neuron structure in a nervous system consists of inhibitory neurons and excitory neurons. Both neurons are activated by agonistic neurons and inactivated by antagonist neurons. In this paper, we proposed a physiological fuzzy neural network by analyzing the physiological neuron structure in the nervous system. The proposed structure selectively activates the neurons which go through a state of excitement caused by agonistic neurons and also transmit the signal of these neurons to the output layers. The proposed physiological fuzzy neural networks based on the nervous system consists of a input player, and the hidden layer which classifies features of learning data, and output layer. The proposed fuzzy neural network is applied to recognize bronchial squamous cell carcinoma images and car plate images. The result of the experiments shows that the learning time, the convergence, and the recognition rate of the proposed physiological fuzzy neural networks outperform the conventional neural networks.

  • In this paper. we present a neuro-fuzzy controller which unifies both fuzzy logic and multi-layered feed forward neural networks. Fuzzy logic provides a means for converting linguistic control knowledge into control actions. On the other hand. feed forward neural networks provide salient features. such as learning and parallelism. In the proposed neuro-fuzzy controller. the parameters of membership functions in the antecedent part of fuzzy inference rules are identified by using the error back propagation algorithm as a learning rule. while the coefficients of the linear combination of input variables in the consequent part are determined by using the least square estimation method. Finally. the effectiveness of the proposed controller is verified through computer simulation for an inverted pole system.

  • This study proposes bankruptcy prediction model using fuzzy neural networks. Neural networks offer preeminent learning ability but they are often confronted with the inconsistent and unpredictable performance for noisy financial data. The existence of continuous data and large amounts of records may pose a challenging task to explicit concepts extraction from the raw data due to the huge data space determined by continuous input variables. The attempt to solve this problem is to transform each input variable in a way which may make it easier fur neural network to develop a predictive relationship. One of the methods selected for this is to map each continuous input variable to a series of overlapping fuzzy sets. Appropriately transforming each of the inputs into overlapping fuzzy membership sets provides an isomorphic mapping of the data to properly constructed membership values, and as such, no information is lost. In addition, it is easier far neural network to identify and model high-order interactions when the data is transformed in this way. Experimental results show that fuzzy neural network outperforms conventional neural network for the prediction of corporate bankruptcy.

  • In this paper, we construct an automatic evaluation system of psychological feeling for corporate identity (CI) symbol mark based on a fuzzy neural network technique. The system is modelled by trainable fuzzy inference rules with several input variables (qualitative and quantitative design components of CI symbol mark) and a single output variable (consumer's feeling). The back propagation learning algorithm, which is a conventional learning method of multilayer feedforward neural networks, is used for parameter identification of the fuzzy inference system. The learning ability to train data and the generalization ability to test data are evaluated for the proposed evaluation system by computer simulations.

  • The optimal structure of the conventional Fuzzy Polynomial Neural Networks (FPNN)[3] depends on experience of designer. For the conventional Fuzzy Polynomial Neural Networks, input variable number, number of input variable, number of Membership Functions(MFs) and consequence structures are selected through the experience of a model designer iteratively. In this paper, we propose the new design methodology to find the optimal structure of Fuzzy Polymomial Neural Network by using Genetic Algorithms(GAs)[4, 5]. In the sequel, It is shown that the proposed Advanced Genetic Algorithms based Fuzzy Polynomial Neural Network(Advanced GAs-based FPNN) is more useful and effective than the existing models for nonlinear process. We used Medical Imaging System(MIS)[6] data to evaluate the performance of the proposed model.

  • In this paper, a fuzzy-neural interpolating network is proposed to efficiently approximate a nonlinear function. Specifically, basis functions are first constructed by Fuzzy Membership Function based Neural Networks (FMFNN). And the fuzzy similarity, which is defined as the degree of matching between actual output value and the output of each basis function, is employed to determine initial weighting of the proposed network. Then the weightings are updated in such a way that square of the error is minimized. To show the capability of function approximation of the proposed fuzzy-neural interpolating network, a numerical example is illustrated.

  • Fuzzy algorithm is essentially nondeterministic, but to guarantee the stable control the fuzzy control program should be deterministic in practice. Fuzzy controllers with matrix representation is very simple in construction and very fast in computation. The value of the matrix is not adequate at the first place, but can be modified by using the neural networks. We apply the simple heuristic techniques to modify the matrix successfully.
