The promoter region of pyrC (dihydroorotase) gene of Escherichia coli was shown to have Fur protein binding properties by gel retardation assay. In vivo regulation of the pyrC expression was studied by measuring dihydroorotase activity and ${\beta}$-galactosidase level in the $fur^+$ and $fur^-$ genetic background. The expression of chromosomal dihydroorotase activity and ${\beta}$-galactosidase activity of pyrC-lacZ fusion plasmid was repressed to about 30% and 17%, respectively in the $fur^+$ strain compared to those in the $fur^-$ strain. Divalent ions such as $Fe^{2+}$ and $Zn^{2+}$ were not required for the repression. PyrC expression was also reduced to one half by 1 mM uracil. The effect of uracil was independent on the fur gene.

To clarify effects of the structural changes of Fur protein on the resistance to metronidazole (Mtz), the mutational analysis of structure and function of the protein in Helicobacter pylori (Hp) was undertaken. It was identified that some changes in Hp Fur protein resulted in increase of resistance to Mtz, and other changes resulted in decrease of resistance. Increase of Mtz resistance came from the enzyme's decreased ability of reducing prodrug Mtz to the form of bactericidal agent. Some sites that affects Mtz resistance (i) in Fur's N terminal extension, and (ii) in its central region, which links DNA binding and Fe-binding modules were identified. It was also found that the addition of FLAG tag to Fur's C terminus also significantly impairs Fur function.

Fur garment has long been the conventional symbol for luxury, or conspicuous consumption. However, as fashion items began to diversify as part of overall fashion trend, fur items are now more about individual taste and style than just lavishness. Synthetic fur is especially emerging as a new promising fashion material, with a touch almost like natural fur at an affordable price. Along with the emergence of 'Vegan Fashion' trend, synthetic fur is establishing itself as a popular fashion textile. This study is an attempt to investigate subjective evaluation and physical properties of natural and synthetic furs, whose results will further serve as basic data in developing synthetic fur materials. Sensory and emotional evaluations are carried out on natural and artificial furs. For analysis, factors such as weight, thickness, air permeability, gloss and compressibility were surveyed to observe how they influence the physical properties. According to the subjective evaluation, natural and artificial fur samples do not differ in conspicuous ways in appearance. Experiments on physical properties, specifically warm/cool touch experiment, show that natural fur has a slightly higher warm sensation than artificial fur. Luster analysis by using a microscope revealed that there are subtle qualitative differences between natural and artificial fur. During the subjective evaluation, subjects found it hard to state distinct quantitative differences in luster. A survey as a means of assessing qualitative differences in gloss seems to be necessary to complement the evaluation. Results from this study will potentially serve as resources for diversification of fashion product designs using synthetic fur.

Background & Objectives : Yellow fur on the tongue is known to be associated with prognosis of disease in oriental medicine. Higher ratios of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL) to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL) & total cholesterol (TC) to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL) are associated with a greater risk of cardiovascular disease. The aim of this study was to assess the relationship between cardiovascular disease index and yellow fur - oriental medical index - in stroke patients over 60 years old. Methods & Subjects : Among 802 of the recruited patients(434 male, 368 female), 340 were yellow fur group(209 male, 131 female). We assessed their general characteristics and risk factors. We compared the cardiovascular disease index between yellow fur and non-yellow fur groups by sex. Results : On the General Characteristics males have yellow fur more often than females. In cardiovascular disease index, the male yellow fur group showed higher ratios of TC/HDL(atherogenic index), (TC-HDL)/HDL, LDL/HDL and higher LDL and showed lower HDL than the non-yellow fur group. In female patients, there were no differences between the two groups about cardiovascular disease index. There were more patients diagnosed with Fire & Heat in the male yellow fur group, and Dampness & Phlegm in the male non-yellow fur group. The male yellow fur group eat fast food more than the non-yellow fur group. Conclusions : The results indicated that yellow fur may be associated with a high risk of cardiovascular disease. We can thus use yellow fur on the tongue as a cardiovascular disease index in male stroke patients over 60 years old.

Fur rendering is difficult in that there are huge numbers of objects and it takes so much time. The previous method considers fur as cylinder, transforms it into 2D ribbon, triangulates and commits rendering. But this method has problem like under sampling and takes rendering time so long. To resolve these shortcuts we proposed new algorithm. We divide fur into thick and thin fur and we applied adaptive rendering methods for each type of fur. Also we can perform an effective rendering according to the proposed rendering framework.

The purpose of this study was to compare fur clothing preferences of Korean and Russian women, and then to provide a beneficial data to Koran fur manufacturers who is working in Korea and advancing into Russia. 346 subjects were gather in Seoul and Moscow through convenience sampling method, and frequency, percentage, mean, x²-test, t-test were conducted for data analysis. The results were as follows: 1. Korean and Russian women's fur clothing buying motives, information sources, important factors on purchasing, purchasing, influences ere generally examined. 2. Russian women's fur clothing possession rate as well as fur clothing purchasing intention in the future were higher than Korean women's. 3. Fur clothing item, material, color, style, length which Korean and Russian women prefer were compared. 4. In case of shilhouette, Russia women showed high preference on swinger shilhouette, relatively Korean women preferred H-line. 5. In case of collar design, Russian women showed high preference on stand collar, relatively Korean women preferred notch collar or shawl collar. 6. In case of sleeve design, Russian women showed high preference on turn back cuffs sleeve, relatively Korean women preferred push-up sleeve.

In this article, we show that the orf slr1471 from Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 codes for a functional member of the YidC/Alb3/Oxa1 protein family, and the encoded protein has a transmembrane topology with a common core structure. Using specific antibodies raised against the Synechocystis YidC homologous protein, we further show that the Synechocystis YidC protein appears to be predominantly localized in the cyanobacterial cytoplasmic membrane. The impact of the described findings for synthesis of membrane proteins and for protein sorting within cyanobacterial cells is discussed.

We demonstrate small-scale high-T$_c$ superconductor RSFQ(Rapid Single Flux Quantum) circuits using multilayer bicrystal technology. An RSFQ balanced comparator is demonstrated with good current resolution, and its operating conditions are discussed in some detail. A single-loop delta-sigma modulator is realized adding a feedback loop to the comparator. The effect of the feedback is confirmed by dc measurement and simulation. A design of an RSFQ toggle flip-flop with the same multilayer bicrystal technology is suggested.
