  • The purpose of this study is to examine how the interior improvement of department store would affect costumers' behavior The marketing field that is aimed to maximize consumption is required to recognize the strategy about the environment that promotes consumption and products values. The places where to appear intensively and largely are department stores; they have to Provide diverse kind of products, services, and pleasant circumstances for shopping. Therefore, the goal of this research is based on studying customers behavior that is distinguished cause in selling space in the department store. First, to notice the meaning of consumption to the modern society, secondly, to analyze how customers behave differently according to various shape of selling spaces, thirdly, with precise understanding of buyers consumption behavior, to suggest the fundamental information In department merchandizing planning for maximized selling.

A Study on the Dynamic Behavior of a Simply Supported Beam with Moving Masses and Cracks (이동질량과 크랙을 가진 단순지지 보의 동특성에 관한 연구)

  • To determine the effect of transverse open crack on the dynamic behavior of simply-supported Euler-Bernoulli beam with the moving masses, an iterative modal analysis approach is developed. The influence of depth and position of the crack in the beam, on the dynamic behavior of the simply supported beam system, have been studied by numerical method. The cracked section is represented by a local flexibility matrix, connecting two undamaged beam segments that is, the crack is modeled as a rotational spring. This flexibility matrix defines the relationship between the displacements and forces across the crack section, and is derived by applying a fundamental fracture mechanics theory. As the depth of the crack is increased, the mid-span deflection of the simply-supported beam, with the moving mass, is increased. The crack is positioned in the middle point of the pipe, and the mid-span defection of the simply-supported pipe represents maximum deflection.

  • It can be said that the relationship between the maneuvering ability of operators and the navigational environment affects the safe degree of navigation in the collision avoidance situation. In order to reduce the occurrence probability of accident and to maintain the safety, it is necessary to clarify the relationship between human behavior and navigational environment. In this study, therefore, we analyzed and discussed the relationship between the maneuvering characteristics and the safety focused on human behavior as a fundamental factor of marine accidents using ship handling simulator and questionnaire. As a result, we concluded that navigational environment changes variously and the maneuvering ability of operators also varies with the navigational environment, and the ship handling characteristics strongly affect the occurrence probability of accident.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the problems in assumption of the distinguished behaviors of hospitalized dementia patients- which can be easily emerged and recognized in senile dementia patients and their distinctive behavior characters in different physical environment per person. Furthermore, it is to suggest a fundamental data to improve physical environment of the different facilities and the design guidelines for reconstruction in terms of the new and therapeutic function of the dementia specialized department. For planning on the dementia specialized hospital, considerablely, security and safety, comfortableness, personal identification of the facility, emotional stability and the proper stimulation for the patients are emphasized according to the research on the frequent and major issues of the patients from their own dwelling place.

  • Analysis of structures are usually executed under the assumption that connections are either ideally pinned joint or fully rigid joint. But in general all structures is connected under the semi-rigid connections. Semi-rigid connect ions have demerits that is simplification work on connection's behavior, moment-rotation relationships of connect ions , apprehension of nonlinear analysis etc. On the other hand there is merits that is improvements of serviceability, economic efficiency, construction in predicting real behavior frames. This study is to make model of connect ions by based on experimental study and after analysis on frames considering characteristics of semi-rigid connections. semi-rigid connection's influence on the behavior of structures and fundamental data on application of structures that is connected between S H S column and H beam is exhibited.

  • This paper presents the influence of the process parameters on the change in dynamic behavior of a lathe turning system. With variation of feed rate, depth of cut, direction of tool motion, cutting speed and tool location along the workpiece, the dynamic characteristics of stable cutting, chatter transition and fully developed chatter regions are demonstrated. The workpiece vibration during machining is continuously measured at different tool locations along the workpiece and quantitatively analyzed. Complex linear behavior due to change of process parameter values as well as fundamental wystem nonlinearity due to change of process configuration indicated by a tool path dependence of the locations of chatter onset and disappearance are described. Finally, the structural characteristics of the turning system which can have large and nonlinear effects on system behavior are presented.

  • The dynamic stability of railway vehicle has been one of the important issues in railway safety. The dynamic simulator has been used in the study about the dynamic stability of railway vehicle and wheel/rail interface. Especially, a small scale simulator has been widely used in the fundamental study in the laboratory instead of full scale roller rig which is not cost effective and inconvenient to achieve diverse design parameters. But the technique for the design of the small scale simulator for the fundamental study about the dynamic characteristics of the wheel-rail system and the bogie system has not been well developed in Korea. Therefore, the research about the development of the small scale simulator and the bogie has been conducted. As this paper, To predict the dynamic behavior of railway vehicle, we studied running stability test of 1/5 scaled bogie that similarity laws is applied using small scale derailment simulator. For the operation of the small scale derailment simulator, it is required to investigate the performance and characteristics of the system. This could be achieved by a comparative study between an analysis and an experiment. This paper presented the analytical model which could be used for verifying of the test results and understanding of the physical behavior of the dynamic system comprising the small scale bogie and the simulator.

Effects of consecutive earthquakes on increased damage and response of reinforced concrete structures

  • A large main shock may consist of numerous aftershocks with a short period. The aftershocks induced by a large main shock can cause the collapse of a structure that has been already damaged by the preceding main shock. These aftershocks are important factors in structural damages. Furthermore, despite what is often assumed in seismic design codes, earthquakes do not usually occur as a single event, but as a series of strong aftershocks and even fore shocks. For this reason, this study investigates the effect and potential of consecutive earthquakes on the response and behavior of concrete structures. At first, six moment resisting concrete frames with 3, 5, 7, 10, 12 and 15 stories are designed and analyzed under two different records with seismic sequences from real and artificial cases. The damage states of the model frames were then measured by the Park and Ang's damage index. From the results of this investigation, it is observed that the sequences of ground motions can almost double the accumulated damage and increased response of structures. Therefore, it is certainly insufficient to ignore this effect in the design procedure of structures. Also, the use of artificial seismic sequences as design earthquake can lead to non-conservative prediction of behavior and damage of structures under real seismic sequences.

SIGNIFICANCE OF ACTINIDE CHEMISTRY FOR THE LONG-TERM SAFETY OF WASTE DISPOSAL

  • A geochemical approach to the long-term safety of waste disposal is discussed in connection with the significance of actinides, which shall deliver the major radioactivity inventory subsequent to the relatively short-term decay of fission products. Every power reactor generates transuranic (TRU) elements: plutonium and minor actinides (Np, Am, Cm), which consist chiefly of long-lived nuclides emitting alpha radiation. The amount of TRU actinides generated in a fuel life period is found to be relatively small (about 1 wt% or less in spent fuel) but their radioactivity persists many hundred thousands years. Geological confinement of waste containing TRU actinides demands, as a result, fundamental knowledge on the geochemical behavior of actinides in the repository environment for a long period of time. Appraisal of the scientific progress in this subject area is the main objective of the present paper. Following the introductory discussion on natural radioactivities, the nuclear fuel cycle is briefly brought up with reference to actinide generation and waste disposal. As the long-term disposal safety concerns inevitably with actinides, the significance of the aquatic actinide chemistry is summarized in two parts: the fundamental properties relevant to their aquatic behavior and the geochemical reactions in nanoscopic scale. The constrained space of writing allows discussion on some examples only, for which topics of the primary concern are selected, e.g. apparent solubility and colloid generation, colloid-facilitated migration, notable speciation of such processes, etc. Discussion is summed up to end with how to make a geochemical approach available for the long-term disposal safety of nuclear waste or for the performance assessment (PA) as known generally.

Experimental study of cyclic behavior of composite vertical shear link in eccentrically braced frames

  • This paper is an experimental study on the behavior of vertical shear link in normal (steel section with and without stiffener) and composite (steel section with concrete located at the area limited to web and flanges of the section) configurations. This study is mainly aimed to perceive failure mechanism, collect laboratory data, and consider the effect of number of transverse reinforcements on strength and ductility of composite vertical links. There have been four specimens selected for examining the effects of different details. The first specimen was an I section with no stiffener, the second composed of I section with stiffeners provided according to AISC 2005. The third and fourth specimens were composed of I sections with reinforced concrete located at the area between its flanges and web. The tests carried out were of quasi-static type and conducted on full scale specimens. Experimental findings show remarkable increase in shear capacity and ductility of the composite links as compared to the normal specimens.
