  • The atmospheric pressure plasma treatments ($Ar/O_2$ and $Ar/N_2$) of activated carbon fibers (ACFs) were carried out to introduce hydrophilic functional groups on carbon surfaces in order to enhance the hydrogen chloride gas (HCl) adsorption. Surface properties of the ACFs were determined by XPS and SEM. $N_2$/77 K adsorption isotherms were investigated by BET and D-R (Dubinin-Radushkevich) plot methods. The HCl removal efficiency was confirmed by HCl detecting tubes (range:1~40 or 40~1000 ppm). As experimental results, it was found that all plasma-treated ACFs showed the decrease in the pore volume, but the HCl removal efficiency showed higher level than that of the untreated ACFs. This result indicated that the plasma treatments led to the conformation of hydrophilic functional groups on the carbon surfaces, resulting in the increase of the interaction between the ACFs and HCl gas.

  • Functional interpretation of noncoding genetic variants associated with complex human diseases and traits remains a challenge. In an effort to enhance our understanding of common germline variants associated with lung cancer, we categorize regulatory elements based on eight major cell types of human lung tissue. Our results show that 21.68% of lung cancer-associated risk variants are linked to noncoding regulatory elements, nearly half of which are cell type-specific. Integrative analysis of high-resolution long-range chromatin interactome maps and single-cell RNA-sequencing data of lung tumors uncovers number of putative target genes of these variants and functionally relevant cell types, which display a potential biological link to cancer susceptibility. The present study greatly expands the scope of functional annotation of lung cancer-associated genetic risk factors and dictates probable cell types involved in lung carcinogenesis.

  • The article proves the relevance of developing conceptual frameworks for managing the quality assurance of logistics activities in the context of socio-economic interaction of their participants. It is established that the fundamental difference of the logistic approach in management from traditional approaches is the allocation of a single management function of previously separated, disparate material flows, as well as economic, technological, information integration of chain links into a single system capable of effective management of these flows. It is substantiated that the functioning of the enterprise as a logistics system can be represented in the form of a triad of logistics components, namely: supply logistics, production logistics, sales logistics. Management of quality assurance processes of logistics activities in the context of socio-economic interaction of their participants is a functional component of the entire logistics system due to the quality of work and interaction of all participants in the implementation of certain activities. The quality of logistics activities will affect the level of economic potential, rationalization and optimization of all logistics flows. It is proved that the management of quality assurance processes of logistics activities in the context of socio-economic interaction of their participants involves the following main areas: the introduction of a quality system of logistics processes; development and implementation of the general strategy of quality improvement at the enterprise; internal integration; controlling. Management of quality assurance processes of logistics activities in the context of socio-economic interaction of its participants requires compliance with the following requirements: systematic and comprehensive management of all flow processes; coordination of criteria and indicators for assessing the effectiveness of the entire logistics system; dissemination of the use and application of information technology; ensuring partnerships and close interaction of all participants in sales networks.

  • Hydrogen adsorption mechanism onto the porous metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) has been studied by density functional theory calculation. The selected functionals for the predict ion of interact ion energies between hydrogen and potential adsorption sites of MOF was utilized after the evaluation with the various functionals for interaction energy of $H_2C_6H_6$ model system the adsorption energy of hydrogen molecule into MOF was investigated with the consideration of the favorable adsorption sites and the orientations. We also calculated the second favorable adsorption sites by geometry optimization using every combination of two first absorbed hydrogen molecules. Based on the calculation of first and second adsorption sites and energies, the hydrogen adsorption into MOF follows a cooperative mechanism in which the initial metal sites initiate the propagation of the hydrogen adsorption on the whole frameworks. In addition, it was found that the interaction strength between the simple benzene ring with hydrogen is significantly reinforced when the benzene ring has been incorporated into the framework of MOFs.

  • Defects in the mitotic spindle or in the attachment of chromosomes to the spindle are believed to release an activated form of spindle checkpoint complex that inhibits APC-dependent ubiquitination and subsequently arrests the cell cycle at metaphase. When the spindle assembly is disrupted, the fission yeast mitotic arrest deficient (mad) mutants fail to arrest and rapidly lose viability. To enhance our understanding of the molecular mechanisms for the pathway of checkpoint function, the functional characterizations of Mad 1 p from Schizosaccharomyces pombe involved in this process have been carried out. Yeast two-hybrid and various deletion analyses of S. pombe Mad1 p reveal that the C terminus of Mad1p is critical for the binding of Mad2p and maintenance of Mad 1 p-Mad2p interaction. In addition, it was found. that the Mad1p region (residues 206-356) is essential for Mad1p-other checkpoint components. Mad1p truncating this region is sufficient to bind Mad2p but abolishes the checkpoint function, indicating that the checkpoint function is necessary for interaction of Mad 1 p-other checkpoint components. The possible functions of S. pombe Mad1p at the cell cycle checkpoint are discussed.

  • We have studied electronic and magnetic structure of cubane-type Cu magnetic molecule using density functional method. The calculated density of states show that Cu has 3d $x^2-y^2$ hole orbital because of short distances between Cu atom and in-plane 4 ligand atoms. The calculated total energy with in-plane antiferromagnetic spin configuration is lower than those of ferromagnetic configurations. The calculated exchange interaction J between in-plane Cu atoms is much larger than those between out-plane Cu atoms, since the $x^2-y^2$ hole orbital ordering of Cu 3d orbitals induces strong super-exchange interaction between in-plane Cu atoms.

  • The purposes of this study are to explore the effect of the network characteristics of Healthy Family Support Center on its performance, and also to investigate the mediating effect of the organizational properties on the performance. We used the data from 148 healthy family support centers in National Survey in Korea. The analytic sample for this study consists of 102 responses.(response rate=68.9%) Multivariate regression model estimated the effects of the network's structural, interactive and functional characteristics and the interaction between the network's characteristics and organizational properties on the performance The findings of this study demonstrate that healthy family support centers with higher closeness centrality and with better functional characteristics reported more performances. Moreover, Centers that are more independent in organizational properties showed higher performances. However, the findings did not show that the interaction between the network's characteristics and organizational properties mediates on the performance.

  • Introduction of CNTs into a metal matrix has been considered to improve the mechanical properties of the metal matrix. However, the binding energy between metals and pristine CNTs wall is known to be so small that the interfacial slip between CNTs and the matrix occurs at a relatively low external stress. The interfacial strength between CNT and metal matrix is thus one of the key factors for successful development of the CNT/metal composites. Defective or functionalized CNT has been considered to enhance the interfacial strength of nanocomposites. In the present work, we design the various realistic hybrid structures of the single wall CNT/Cu complexes and characterize the interaction between single wall CNTs and Cu nano-particle and Cu13 cluster using first principle calculations. The characteristics of functionalized CNTs with various surface functional groups, such as -COOH, -OH, and -O interacting with Cu are investigated. We found that the binding energy can be enhanced by the surface functional group including oxygen since the oxygen atom can mediate and reinforce the interaction between carbon and Cu. These results strongly support the recent experimental work which suggested the oxygen on the interface playing an important role in the excellent mechanical properties of the CNT/Cu composite.

  • We have studied electronic and magnetic structure of Mn-dimer molecule using OpenMX method based on density functional method. The calculated density of states shows that the four O atoms split $e_g$ and $t_{2g}$ energy levels. The energy splitting by the crystal field is smaller than bulk MnO with cubic structure, because of small coordination number of atoms. Total energy with antiferromagnetic spin configuration is lower than that of ferromagnetic configurations. Calculated exchange interaction J between Mn atoms is one order larger than that of the other Mn-O magnetic molecules. That comes from the direct exchange interaction between Mn 3d orbitals and the super-exchange interactions caused by strong ${\sigma}$-bonding of Mn-O orbitals.

  • We have studied electronic and magnetic structure of cubane-type Co magnetic molecule using density functional method. The calculated density of states show $Co^{+2}$ ionic state and high-spin state because of large exchange interaction between inside Co 3d electrons. The exchange interaction J between Co atoms depends Co-O-Co angle. The calculated J is ferromagnetic with right angles. On the other hand J is antiferromagnetic with large angles since super-exchange interactions between $Co^{+2}$ atoms. It induces that Co cubane has a antiferromagnetic spin structure of AFM1 = [${\uparrow}{\uparrow}{\downarrow}{\downarrow}$]
