Cotton fabric was treated with chitosan solution by pad-dry(-cure) method to impart antimicrobial properties. Four chitosans of different degree of deacetylation(DAC: 65~95%) with similar molecular weight(ca. 50, 000) and one chitosan oligomer(MW 1, 800, DAC 86%) were used. Antimicribial activity against Staphylococcus aureus was evaluated by the Shake Flask Method. Treated fabrics were laundered up to 20 times according to AATCC Test Method 60-1986 and antimicrobial activity of laundered fabrics was evaluated. The antimicrobial activity was increased with the concentration and DAC of chitosan used. And the cured samples showed better durability to laundering than not-cured samples. Crosslinker and binder decreased the antimicrobial activity of fabrics treated with chitosan oligomer and were not effective to improve the durability to washing.
The new textile materials may be defined as textile materials different from already existing ones in the physical and chemical structure, manufacturing process, or end-use property. The present time what is called the post-industrial society is characterized by rapid change and new technology. Also, textile materials have been changed rapidly and diversely in the post-industrial society than in any other periods. The study aimed to analyze the trend of new tektite materials development in Korea and to forecast the development trend in the future. To investigate the trend of new textile materials, various written materials and informations were collected from the manufacturers, textile related periodicals, and research journals, and they were analyzed. The period of analysis was from January 1992 to May 1995. The results of this research are as followings : (1) Mixed textile materiasl such as bicomponent fiber, blended yam and blended fabric were increased. (2) High technology has an important effect upon new textile material development. (3) functional textile materials were increased (4) The high value-added products were increased. (5) The naturalized textile materials were increased.
This study provides the structural design for commercialization of outdoor breathable waterproof jackets for men merged with solar cells to enable emergency communications, utilizing wearable devices to develop smart clothing and extend convenience in everyday life. The most popular waterproof jacket with two-layer and three-layer moisture-permeable waterproof fabric was selected, based on previous studies of functional outdoor jackets and style with affinity to fashion. Flexible solar films suitable for clothing were embedded in the lining of the sleeve area and hood visor, and printed film was developed to balance weight and design. High performance smart solar jackets have application to expanding the use of smart phones for everyday and emergency communication, and leisure and outdoor sports activities, as well as day-to-day functions as a waterproof breathable outdoor jacket for men. It is also eco-friendly. Satisfying both the aesthetic and practical, a solar cell jacket with smart features, is an innovative tool for use in a variety of outdoor activities, and a fashion-forward commercialized product.
This study aims to develop a spring/fall motorcycle jacket for quick service transporter. Depending on the results of the previous research, this study produced the tested jacket which was improved in material, pattern, and design. For the tested jacket, 100% polyester fabric excellent in strength, durability and abrasion-resistance was selected as a major material, and Cordura was used as a partial material to improve the strength and abrasion-resistance of the sleeve side lines, elbow and shoulder areas. The retro-reflection material was applied partially in order to improve visibility of the jacket in the night or in a dark place. A total of 7 pockets were composed in the jacket for the sufficient storage spaces. The functional design elements such as the 2-way zipper and the placket at the center front, the action pleats at the upper part of back armholes, the pit-zip at armpit were applied. In addition, the sleeve pattern was bent with the shape of elbow curvature in time of driving and the back length of the jacket was lengthened 4cm. As a result of the appearance assessment, there was a significant difference from the existing jacket in all items but chest size, shoulder width, cuffs circumference, and jacket hemline circumference. In motion adaptability and field activity appropriateness assessments, the assessment grade for all items was found to be commonly higher than that of the existing jacket, and thus, the tested jacket was assessed to be suitable for a motorcycle jacket design for the quick service transporters.
This study was done for the proposal for improvement for junior sportswear which is substitutable as uniforms in the form of elementary school and physical education uniforms by analyzing detailed features through investigation. Accordingly, we developed a prototype design for physical education uniforms as a symbol of the school to enhance the aesthetic and functional satisfaction. The results are as follows. When we developed physical education uniforms, we put activity on our first priority while taking the improvement in both aesthetic and functional aspects into consideration. In addition, we tried to make sure the uniforms reflect the refined and trendy elements to meet students needs to satisfy their aesthetic sense in dress. Reflecting the improvement proposals and preferences of the students, six different prototype designs were developed and evaluated on the basis of two concepts of "new basic" and "trendy". The highest ranking, the physical education uniforms design 1 is based on new basic concept and characterized with slim fit considering activity which will be worn as fall/winter physical education uniforms. Design 1 uses ottoman functional knit as a fabric material which is not only students favorite but also good in both flexibility and warmth. Top with style of high-neckline collar and full open zip-up is simplified with the incision lines and detail. It is a set-in sleeve design in which blue and yellow collars signifying school color are properly placed along with the incision lines in harmony.

This study aims to analyze the characteristics of the male products for urinary incontinence by examining the types and characteristics of those registered in KIPO (Korean Industrial Property Office). Additionally, the types and characteristics, especially for the cloth products and the pads, of male panties for urinary incontinence on the market are analyzed. Men in their 60s with minor symptoms were selected as the subjects to evaluate the wearability. The results are as follows. 11 male products for urinary incontinence, registered in KIPO, are structurally different from those for women by having a separate pocket mainly for absorption. There are one disposable type and 7 cloth types, and the cloth panties can be classified as either united or separable type depending on the detachability of pads from the panties. The types of the panties vary according to the position, shape, and size of the attached pads on normal male panties (boxer, briefs, drawers). The fabrics for the urinary incontinence are usually piled in 3 to 5 layers by having the most absorptive layer on the top, the next with deodorizing characteristics, and the bottom with the waterproof fabric as basics with some additional layers of antibiotic or breathable fabrics. From the wearability test, it has been determined that the panties are not distinguishable in external appearance and the fitness is also not a problem since the size varies as the normal panties. It has been evaluated that the fitness of the panties is an important factor since the pad should be worn in any form; the pad sewed in the middle of the panties was evaluated to be more wearable than having a long pad. In case of separable panties, when the pattern and fabric is similar to the functional panties and the options such as the thickness of the pads or detachability are given to the users, it tends to be more satisfactory.
This study develops baseball uniforms for amateur baseball players with excellent appearance and functional movement. This study selected a conventional baseball uniform and developed a new one for amateur baseball players with improved function and appearance based on previous research results. In case of developed baseball uniform materials, this study used polyurethane mixed fabric for the top to improve flexibility. A mesh material was used at the armpit, back, and bottom of the top, side line of pants and pockets to improve breathability. In addition, quilted material was added to the knee to improve durability and protection. For the patterns and design, this study used a gusset under the arm to assist in comfortable movement as well as reduced the length of the top and circumference of the hem to decrease unnecessary parts. For the pants, this study used a waistband gripper to avoid the top riding up, added darts behind the knees to bend comfortably, and added additional fabric inside the hem to prevent dirt. In addition, we reduced the width and length of the pants. Wearing evaluation was divided into appearance evaluation by experts and on-site-wearing test by baseball players. The wearing evaluation results for the developed baseball uniform indicated higher evaluations than a conventional baseball uniform in all sections as well as showed significant differences in all sections. The result of movement adaptability evaluation showed the highest satisfaction for 'the top does not ride up' and 'dirt do not get in'.
This study investigated the current production of women's sportswear tights among a total of 813 yoga, gym and training tights on the market to provide basic data for the development of women's sportswear tight tops. The results found the following: First, according to the analysis of women's sportswear tight tops by brand, polyester, nylon and polyurethane were most used. In addition, elastic, breathable and quick-dry, sweat absorbent products were commonly found. In terms of design, crew neck and sleeveless styles were popular. In addition, mesh was frequently applied to the top of the chest and upper part of the back. The size was mostly marked in S, M and L, and the size range was very large by brand. For color, achromatic color was most common. In terms of price, 'KRW 50,000-100,000' was frequently found. Second, yoga tights were compared to gym & training wear. In the case of yoga tights, elastic, various products in diverse design (e.g., crew neck, sleeveless, long sleeve, etc.) and colors (e.g., red, black, etc.) made of breathable and water-absorbing fabric were most produced. In particular, a combination of mesh materials was common. In gym and training wear, crew neck and short-sleeve styles in achromatic color made of elastic, breathable and quick-dry, seat absorbing fabric were most produced.
Chitosan is a polysaccharide with cationic amino groups in its structure and has useful properties as functional materials. Various end-use developments of chitosan are in progress. When the cotton fabric is pretreated with chitosan, the hand property of cotton fabric may be improved expecially for the summer apparel. In this study, as a cross-linking agent to introduce chitosan into cotton, BTCA(butane-1,2,3,4-tetracarboxylic acid) or CA(citric acid) was added in order to prevent detachment of chitosan by the cross-linking. During the cross-linking procedure, via the padding-drying-heat setting, amino groups of chitosan and hydroxyl groups of cotton, carboxyl groups of BTCA/CA are cross-linked by forming anhydrous cyclic rings. Since BTCA has four carboxyl groups, cross-linking by thermal treatment is easy, leading to the trials in wrinkle-recovery treatment of cotton fabrics. However, the high price of the BTCA reagent has been a shortcoming in the actual application for industrial use. Therefore, in this study, we tried the application of CA having three carboxyl groups, which is relatively low priced, as the substituting cross-linking agent. The hand of the treated fabrics were evaluated by measuring physical properties. In addition, based on the physical properties, three-dimensional images were introduced by using 3D CAD systems and results were compared.
This study proposes the product development through an organic link with multi-faceted analysis on the archetype of traditional costumes culture. In order to find ways to develop cultural products, Jogakbo was selected, and the research result is as following. 1. Analysis on the types of Jogakbo products sold in the market shows that there are not only living, stationary, and fashion items, but also DIY packages. In terms of materials used, most of these Jogakbo products were made of fabric or mixture of different materials. These products displayed similar tendency by reflecting formative characteristics of Jogakbo. 2. This study analyzed the color, surface composition, material, manufacturing, and usage of Jogakbo. The rotor of Jogakbo is mostly composed of mono tone colors or Obangsac(five-element colors). The mono tone colors carries environmentally friendly meaning as it is using the natural color and Obangsac means harmony. Moreover, the surface composition of Jogakbo represents the expansion through connection and its material is also meaningful in that it is recycling. Manufacturing of Jogakbo has educational significance, fortune-wishing characteristics, decorative function, it also gives a gratification of handcraft. The usage of Jogakbo is a multi-(unctional article whose form is determined by an item that is held inside it. 3. Through the analysis on Jogakbo, this study presents the baby wear in relation to the ere-friendliness of colors, brooch sets using the surface composition, dresses using recycling fabric, children's educational instruments with educational significance, as well as multi-functional packages in regards to usage of Jogakbo.
