  • Aberration is still a problem for making augmented reality displays. The existing methods to solve this problem are either slow and inefficient, consume too much battery, or are too complex for straightforward implementation. There are still some problems with image quality, and users may suffer from eye strain and headaches because the images provided to each eye lack accuracy, causing the brain to receive mismatched cues between the vergence and accommodation of the eyes. In this paper, we implemented a computer simulation of an optical aberration using Zernike polynomials which are defocus, trefoil, coma, and spherical. The research showed that these optical aberrations impact the Point Spread Function (PSF) and Modulation Transfer Function (MTF). We employed the phase conjugate technique to mitigate aberrations. The findings revealed that the most significant impact on the PSF and MTF comes from the influence of spherical aberration and coma aberration.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the visual attention of elementary school students according to the editorial design of the 2007 2009 revised elementary science textbook 'Structure and function of our body'. For this purpose, eye movements were collected while elementary school students were watching real textbooks wearing mobile eye tracker. The BeGaze 3.7 program of SMI company was used analyzing eye movements. Twenty-six elementary school students participated voluntarily in mobile tracking research. Elementary students learned the contents of textbook related to 'digestive organ' and 'respiratory organ' by using double reading learning strategy. The results of this study are as follows. First, as a result of pre- and post-knowledge tests, there was no statistically significant difference in learning effect between 2007 revised and 2009 revised textbook editing design. Second, elementary school students tended to give more visual attention to text than textbook illustrations. Third, the selective attention and persistent attention of elementary students showed a very strong positive correlation (.940), but the selective attention and self-control showed a strong positive correlation (.499). Fourth, students with high level of attention and low level showed high visual occupancy in text than in illustrations. Fifth, elementary school students preferred the 2009 revised science textbook to the 2007 revised.

  • Younger generations use a variety of visual media, such as smartphones, televisions, and computers. Due to the development of visual media, the health of eye was weakening. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effects of eye health and dynamic visual activity on eye muscle stimulation with eye movement and therapeutic massage in university students. 38 university students in their 20s were divided into a control group(18) and an experimental group(20). The experimental group performed eye movement and therapeutic massage every 30 minutes for 5 times a week for 4 weeks. Ocular fatigue, maximal blinking interval, ocular surface temperature, and dynamic visual activity were measured before and after 4 weeks. Ocular fatigue was decreased significantly after 4 weeks (p<.05), and maximal blinking interval was increased significantly after 4 weeks (p<.05). Ocular surface temperature was not showed a significant difference after 4 weeks (p>.05), and dynamic visual activity was increased significantly after 4 weeks (p<.05). Therefore, eye movement and therapeutic massage are recommended for the improvement of eye function and eye health. It is expected to be used as research data to restore and prevent for eye health.

  • A control of the body posture and movement is maintained by the vestibular system, vision, and proprioceptors. Especially, vestibular system has a very important function that controls the eye movement through vestibuloocular reflex and contraction of skeletal muscles through vestibulospinal reflex. However, postural disturbance caused by loss of vestibular function results in nausea, vomiting, vertigo and loss of craving for life. Lose of vestibular function leads to abnormal reflex of eye movements named nystagmus. Analysis of the nystagmus is needed to diagnose the vertigo, which is performed by means of electronystagmography (ENG). The purpose of this study is to develop a computerized system for data processing and an algorithm for the automatic evaluation of the slow component velocity (SCV) of nystagmus Induced by optokinetic(OKN) stimulation system. A new algorithm using recursive least square method (RLSM) to detect SCV of nystagmus is suggested in this paper. This method allows a fast and precise evaluation of the nystagmus, through artifact rejection techniques. The results are depicted in this paper.

  • Purpose: To study the minimum diopter of spherical lens with normal binocular function in induced anisometropia by over-correction or under-correction in single eye. Methods: Stereoacuity of subjects without ophthalmic disease history in their twenties was measured by using Titmus-fly stereotest at 40 cm after overcorrection or under-correction in non-dominant eye or dominant eye, respectively. Results: In induced anisometropia, the stereoacuity decreased with increase of the power of added spherical lens in either nondominant eye or dominant eye. And the first reduction of stereoacuity was more prominent with the addition of (+) spherical lens than (-) spherical lens. In addition, there was more strikingly decrement of stereoacuity with addition of spherical lens to dominant eye than non-dominant eye. Conclusions: In induced anisometropia, the most outstanding reduction of stereoacuity was obtained with increment of the power of added (+) spherical lens in case of non-dominant eye with full correction and dominant eye with addition of spherical lens.

  • PURPOSE: This study is examined the effects of vestibular stimulation through eye movement on balance and muscle activity. METHODS: In 42 healthy adults, no eye exercise was applied to both feet and one foot. The speed of smooth pursuit eye movement (.2 Hz, .3 Hz, and .5 Hz) and saccadic eye movement (.5 Hz and 1.1 Hz) were randomized. The measurements were taken three times for 30 seconds while standing on two feet and measured three times for 10 seconds while standing on one foot. The muscle activity measurement equipment was used to measure the electromyogram signals of the tibialis anterior, peroneus longus, gastrocnemius medialis, vastus medialis, vastus lateralis, biceps femoris, abdominal internal oblique, and erector spinae muscle. RESULTS: As a result of this study, when applying smooth pursuit eye movement on one leg, the pressure center movement increased, the muscle activity of the lower extremity increased, in the saccadic eye movement, and the center of pressure decreased. CONCLUSION: Accordingly, the smooth pursuit of eye movement, the intervention of this study, affects balance. Through this, the balance can be improved by applying eye movement to the target who needs to improve the balance ability.

  • The cognitive ability of humans depends much on the vision. 'Vision' refers to the sense that receives stimulus of light through eyes. 'Gaze' refers to a function of a straight line that connects the central point of the pupil and a viewpoint in the external world, and, in general, it means a straight line that connects an object that is viewed and the eyes. There are active studies on the gaze in various academic circles including 'psychology' and 'cognitive linguistics.' As a method to objectively analyze the gaze, studies on 'eye tracking' are revitalized. A device for studies on eye tracking is an 'eye tracker.' As the fields of the study expand from development and analysis of Web pages to analysis of stores, methods of traffic signal processing, transport equipment, analysis of user experiences on image contents, and marketing analysis, there occurs a greater demand for a glasses eye-tracking than that for a fixed eye tracker. This study identifies the overview and characteristics of eye tracking and presents a way for spreading studies on eye tracking.
