The quality control of compaction fills has been commonly performed via the field density measurement and plate load tests. However, the engineer frequently encounters difficulties in actually controling the quality due to the uncertainty in the field density measurement as well as the plate load tests. To overcome these difficulties, Park et al. (2009) proposed an alternative quality control method based on the measurement of the compressive wave velocities. In this study, the compressive wave velocities measured in the full-scale model test site were analyzed. Direct arrive seismic tests were performed after the completion of each trackbed layer. To identify a relationship between elastic wave velocities and degree of compaction, laboratory compaction tests were conducted.
A method for the analysis of wave scattering in 3-D elastic full space is developed by means of the coupled boundary-volume integral equation, which takes into account the effects of both the boundary of inclusions and the uctuation of the wave field. The wavenumber domain formulation is used to construct the Krylov subspace by means of FFT. In order to achieve the wavenumber domain formulation, the boundary-volume integral equation is transformed into the volume integral equation. The formulation is also focused on this transform and its numerical implementation. Several numerical results clarify the accuracy and effectiveness of the present method for scattering analysis.

Ocean waves are mighty and powerful. Humans have explored the possibility of harnessing this mighty power for decades now. Estimated as suffice, if only, a fraction of this energy is captured and harnessed, the worry for decrease in fossil fuels diminishes and the current energy consumption of the world can be met. Though different types of methods and devices for extracting energy from this nonstop, free source has been proposed, a handful of them have reached commercialization and others are on the verge. This paper discusses the journey so far in terms of devices that have been developed or prototypes proposed or commercialized. Only a list full of them have been discussed though they exist in numbers.
The three-dimensional unsteady compressible Full Navier-Stokes equation solver with sliding multi-block method has been applied to analyze three dimensional characteristics of the flow field and compression wave around the high speed train which Is entering into a tunnel. The numerical scheme of AF + ADI was used to efficiently solve Navier-Stokes equations in the curvilinear coordinate system. The vortex formation around the nose region was found and the generation of compression wave due to the blockage effects was observed ahead of the train in the form of plane wave. The three dimensional characteristics of the flow field compared to the analytic results were discussed in detail. The variation of pressure of tunnel wall surface and velocity profile of the train are identified as the train enters into a tunnel. The changes in aerodynamic forces and streamlines of each specific sections are also discussed and presented.

Suspension system is one of the most important components indespensible for stability and reliability of automobiles. The demands to more safe and durable suspension system have been increased as the automobiles get popular and improve in quality. The crack in the coil spring of the suspension system produced during manufacturing may grow under a fatigue load and cause a severe safety problems which lead to a catastrophic damage to the passengers. Many conventional NDT techniques including ET, RT, and UT are less sensitive or hard to apply to detect the surface breaking crack in the suspension coils partly because the techniques are point-to-point measurement methods, thus take too long time to inspect the coil spring longer than 1m. Contrary to this, Lamb wave technique is full-field measurement method that make it possible to examine the whole coil spring in real time. In this paper, the Lamb wave is applied to the coil spring to investigate the possibility to detect the cracks on the surface of the coil spring.
Methods for measuring wave height and direction varies throughout the world, depending on wave climate and local traditions. In Japan, bottom mounted systems have long been the standard fur coastal areas with water depth less than 50m, and extensive studies in the 1980s and 1990s refined the systems to a level where the full wave directional spectrum could be measured. Solar electric systems have very little impact on environment, making them one of the cleanest power-generating technologies available. While they are operating, PV systems produce no air pollution, hazardous waste, or noise, and they require no transportable fuels. In PV system design, the selection and proper installation of appropriately-sized components directly affect system reliability, lifetime, and initial cost. In this research, we have studied the PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) signals. I proposed an efficient photovoltaic power interface circuit incorporated with a DC-DC converter and a sine-pwm control method full-bridge inverter. In grid-connected solar power systems, the DC-DC converter operates at high switching frequency to make the output current a sine wave, whereas the full-bridge inverter operates at low switching frequency which is determined by the ac frequency. Thus, it can reduce the switching losses incurred by the full-bridge inverter. Full-bridge converter is controlled by using microprocessor control method, and its operation is verified through computer aided simulations.

The variable frequency and variable voltage AC source made by a conventional inverter which is composed of power semi-conductors includes much noises in sine wave due to high frequency switching of DC source. In this paper the 3rd low pass LC filter for a variable speed 3 phase induction motor driven by a full bridge inverter is introduced to solve the EMI problem by serious noise current. The utility of a modified 3rd order Butterworth LC filter is confirmed through FFT analysis of sine waves and noiseless ACsource can be obtained by the proposed LC filter. The speed of a 3 phase induction motor driven by a full bridge inverter with a LC filter is satisfactorily controlled by a digital PID controller under the condition of stepwise load and setpoint changes.
