  • A full-scale driving simulator is being developed as an effective test-bed for reproducing realistic driving situation in a safe and tightly controlled environment and conducting various human sensibility ergonomics studies. The simulator will be equipped with a 6 degree-of-freedom, high frequency motion base and a 4 channel, wide field-of-view visual system. The simulator will be fully interactive, highly realistic, and yet economical, taking advantages of the fast growing PC technology.

  • We have demonstrated a flexible and full-color OTFT-OLED display. The display has a top-emitting pixel structure with a resolution of 80 ppi, which can be achieved by developed integration architecture of OTFTs. The 0.3-mm-thick flexible display exhibits peak brightness over 100 nit with a contrast ratio greater than 1000:1.

  • For providing good quality power steadily, it is required that operators manipulate the control system of power plant with the good knowledge of power plant system and the control strategies, and cope with accidents effectively. With those requirements, it is general to train operators in power plant control room using full-scope simulator. A full scope simulator adopts the I&C instruments in the main cotrol room, so has to include I/O interface system to interface the simulation computer with I&C instruments in main control room. In already developed simulators, most of I/O interface systems are closed. vendor-dependent. proprietary systems. so have the many disadvantages in terms of cost and maintenance. In this paper. we suggest the method to configure I/O interface system for Thermal Power Plant Simulator based on standard technology which gives the advantages of ease-of-use. cost effectiveness, and simplicity of maintenanceuse by using off-the-shelf products for system integration.

  • A critical problem in the integration of stores into new and existing aircraft is the safe separation of the stores from the aircraft at a variety of flight conditions representative of the aircraft flight regime. Typically, the certification of a particular store/aircraft/flight condition combination is accomplished by a flight test. Flight tests are very expensive and do expose the pilot and aircraft to a certain amount of risk. Wind tunnel testing, although less expensive than flight testing, is still expensive. Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD) has held out the promise of alleviating expensive and risk by simulating weapons separation computationally. The forces and moments on a store at carriage and at various points in the flow field of te aircraft can be computed using CFD applied to the full aircraft and store geometry. This study needs full dynamic characteristics study and flow analysis for securing store separation safety. Present study performs dynamic simulation of store separation with flow analysis using Chimera grid scheme which is usually used for moving simulations.

  • Computer is a very powerful machine which is widely using for data processing, DB construction, peripheral device control, image processing etc. Consequently, many researches and developments have progressed for high performance processing unit, and other devices. Especially, the core units such as semiconductor parts are rapidly growing so that high-integration, high-performance, microminiat turization is possible. The packaging in the semiconductor industry is very important technique to de determine the performance of the system that the semiconductor is used. In this paper, the inspection of the inner defects such as delamination, void, crack, etc. in the semiconductor packages is studied. ESPI which is a non-contact, non-destructive, and full-field inspection method is used for the inner defect inspection and its results are compared with that of C-Scan method.

  • A structure and a design of device were developed to fabricate large-scale active matrix organic light-emitting diode (AMOLED) display with good color purity and high aperture ratio. With these technologies, we developed a full color 14.1 inch WXGA AMOLED display. For the integration of OLED on an active matrix a-Si TFT backplane, an efficient top emission OLED is essential since the TFT circuitry covers a large position of the pixel aperture. These technologies will enable up the OLED applications to larger size displays such as desktop monitors and TVs.

  • Korea Astnonomy and Space Science Institute (KASI) operates two solar radio observing facilities, the Korean station of the e-CALLISTO and the Korean Solar Radio Burst Locator (KSRBL). The e-CALLISTO station had suffered from tracking problem for past several years. Since 2011, KASI has developed a new tracking system, and recently the antenna has regained the its sun-tracking capability and full day-time coverage. The KSRBL also suffered from the control computer breakdown last year. After one year of operational gap, the KSRBL restored its normal daily observation. We also expanded the data server storage capacity, to store the full original data of 25 ms integration time and 0.25 MHz frequency resolution, amounting to about 80 GB per day.

  • Designing and constructing a proper simulator for real power plants requires extensive research in human engineering and computer science and integration of different fields of technologies such as system analysis, operational knowledge for nuclear plant, etc. A full scope replica type simulator for nuclear power plant is developed. The simulator has the same feature and operational functions as one in the main control room (MCR) of a reference power plant. The simulator provides the necessary training to recover or reduce damages from accidents that usually are unpredictable. This paper describes the configurations and characteristics for the simulator that is developed for Younggwang Nuclear Power Plant #3,4 which is the basic model of the Korean Nuclear Power Plant. The paper also describes technical aspects of Auto Code Generator that is used for developing the simulator. The successful development of the simulator will contribute to improve safety in operation of nuclear power plants.

  • A coronal mass ejection (CME) mass is generally estimated by the total brightness measured from white-light coronagraph observations. The total brightness are determined from the integration of the Thomson scattering by free electrons of solar corona along the line of sight. It is difficult to estimate the masses of halo CMEs due to the projection effect. To solve this issue, we construct a synthetic halo CME with a power-law density distribution (ρ = ρ0r-3) based on a full ice-cream cone model using SOHO/LASCO C3 observations. Then we compute a conversion factor from observed CME mass to CME mass for each CME. The final CME mass is determined as their average value of several CME masses above 10 solar radii. Our preliminary analysis for six CMEs show that their CME mass are well determined within the mean absolute relative error in the range of 4 to 15 %.
