  • Exhaustion of fossil fuel resources and high oil price, and furthermore environmental crisis due to emission of carbon dioxide from fossil fuel are serious problems in these days. In order to overcome these problems it is necessary to find and utilize the every energy saving measures and to make maximum utilization of renewable energy resources. The objective of this paper is to develop an instrument to verify the feasibility of Co-Generation System application in an Apartment Complex.

  • A pulsation damper is usually mounted on the fuel rail to diminish undesirable noise in the vehicle cabin room. However, pulsation dampers are quite expensive. Therefore, several studies have focused on reducing fuel pressure pulsations by increasing the self-damping characteristics of the fuel rail. This paper is a basic study in the development of a fuel rail that can reduce pulsations via a self-damping effect. In this study, the pressure pulsation characteristics were of investigated with respect to the aspect ratio of the cross section, wall thickness, and fuel rail material through oil hammer simulations. An oil hammer simulation was performed in advance to simulate the pressure pulsations at the resonant speed, which is a time-saving way. The pressure pulsation peak of fuel rail was observed to rise as the injection period increases. Increase of the aspect ratio and decrease of the wall thickness can reduce the pressure pulsation efficiently.

  • This paper proposes a flywheel hybrid vehicle to solve the energy crisis problem by the exhaustion of a fossil fuel and air pollution for the conservation of environment. The proposed flywheel hybrid vehicle is composed of an accumulator and a flywheel as the energy generation and storage component and three variable displacement hydraulic pump/motors as the energy transfer devices. Flywheel has the characteristics of high energy density and easy energy absorption and consumption. The effectiveness of the energy-saving of the proposed flywheel hybrid vehicle is verified by simulation using Matlab/simulink. First of ail, analytical modeling for the flywheel hybrid vehicle is presented and simulations are performed based on the experimental efficiency data of a variable displacement pump/motor. The results of the simulation show that the effect of energy savings is realized by the proposed hybrid vehicle in 3 different city driving patterns.

  • 본연구는 철도차량의 객실 전기 난방기를 절전형 온수겸용 전기난방기로 대체 하게되면 겨울철 객차내의 세면장 온수를 별도로 데울 필요 없이 온수를 사용 할수 있으며 승객의 서비스향상에 기할 수 있다.에너지 고 효율화로 인한 에너지 절감 그리고 연료비용의 절감으로 인한 경영개선을 이룰수 있으며 또한 환경 오염을 방지할 수 있으므로 철도차량의 객실내 난방을 위하여 앞으로 활용도가 높을것으로 전망되며 점차 확대될 것으로 예상된다.

Analysis of the Nuclear Subcriticality for the High Density Spent Fuel Storage at PWR Plants

  • The marginal nuclear criticality analysis for the high density spent fuel storage at a PWR plant was carried out by using the HELIOS and CASMO-3 codes. More than 20 % of the calculated reactivity saving effect is observed in this analysis. This mainly comes from the adoption of some important fission products and B-10 in the criticality analysis. By taking burnup and boron credits, the high capacity of the spent fuel storage rack can be more fully utilized, reducing the space of storage. Larger storage for a given inventory of spent fuel should result in remarkable cost savings and mort importantly reduce the risks to the public and occupational workers.

  • In this paper, three types of power control strategies for controlling a Fuel Cell Hybrid Electric Vehicle(FCHEV) are studied in view of fuel economy. The FCHEV has become one of alternatives for future vehicles since it does emit water only without any exhaust gas while it has a high well-to-wheel efficiency together with an energy saving due to regenerative braking. However, it has also several disadvantages such as the complexity of vehicle system, the increased weight and the extra battery cost. Among various power control strategies, a static power control strategy, a power assist control strategy and a fuzzy logic-based power control strategy are simulated and compared to show the effectiveness of each method.

  • 연료전지 발전기술은 에너지 절약 및 환경보호 측면에서의 우수한 특성으로 인해 새로운 발전기술로서 평가되고 있다. 여러가지 연료전지 기술중 인산형 연료전지는 기술적으로 가장 성숙되어 있는 상태이며, 상용화를 눈앞에 두고 있다. 본 고에서는 인산형 연료전지에 대한 최근의 기술동향 및 상용화 노력을 소개하고자 한다. 미국과 일본의 개발노력 및 기술상태를 비교 분석하였으며, 향후 기술 개발 방향 등에 대해서도 언급하고자 한다.

  • In recent years, the usage of fossil fuels has caused problems of climate change and global warming. Because the combustion of fossil fuels is related to the production of greenhouse gases ($CO_2$, $CH_4$, etc.), new technology in the field of combustion is needed in order to handle the crisis of climate change and the global warming. As one of the efforts to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases, the concept of regenerative oxy-fuel combustion for energy efficiency and carbon capture was suggested, In the current study, the development of an industrial regenerative oxy-fuel combustion furnace was introduced, which has been being performed at Korea Institute of Energy Research (KIER).

  • The two stroke spark ignition engine is the greatest contributor of the total vehicular pollution in a country like India. It is therefore an item that requires great attention in order to reduce fuel consumption and its concomitant pollution. The use of strong magnetic charge in the fuel line gives a complete and clean burn so that power is increased while operating expenses are reduced. The magnetic flux on the fuel line dramatically reduces harmful exhaust emissions while increasing mileage, thereby saving money and improving engine performance. It increases combustion efficiency and provides higher-octane performance. The experimental results show that the magnetic flux on fuel reduces the carbon monoxide emission up to 13% in a base engine, 23% in a copper-coated engine and 29% in a zirconia-coated engine.

유동 제어 장치를 이용한 상용차량의 항력저감 연구 (Study on drag reduction of commercial vehicle using flow control device)

  • The primary challenge in improving fuel efficiency and reducing air pollution for commercial vehicles is reducing their aerodynamic drag. Various flow control devices, such as cab-roof fairing, gap fairing, cab extender, and side skirt have been introduced to reduce drag, however, the drag reduction effect and applicability are different depending on each commercial vehicle model. To evaluate the fuel consumption of heavy vehicles, a comprehensive research approach, including drag force measurement, flow field analysis is required. This study investigated the effect of a cab extender, which installed rear region of cab, on a drag coefficient of commercial vehicle through wind tunnel experiments and CFD. The results showed that the cab extender significantly modified the flow structure around the vehicle, leading to 8.2% reduction in drag coefficient compared to the original vehicle model. These results would provide practical application for enhancing the aerodynamic performance and fuel efficiency of heavy vehicle.
