This study was conducted to evaluate the influence of fruit setting order by flower cluster on the fruit weight and the soluble solids content for the strawberry of 'Seolhyang' cultivar. The first flower cluster had higher fruit number, fruit weight, soluble solids content and ratio of large fruit compared to the second and third flower cluster. The fruit set on the upper position fruit in the same flower cluster had higher fruit weight and the soluble solids compared to the fruit set on the lower position fruit in the flower cluster. The fruit weight was highly positive correlated with the soluble solids content. The result indicated that the number of fruit set for marketable yield seemed to be 9-10 per the first flower cluster, 6 per the second flower cluster, 4 per the third flower cluster and 3 per the fourth flower cluster in 'Seolhyang' cultivar.

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of fruit set internode on the germination of watermelon seeds. Generally fruits setted in higher than 20 internode were high percent of germination, fruit setted in low internode(5-10) is low. The higher fruit-set internode, fruit weight was significantly increased, but 1,000 seed weight was decreased the more fruit set internode. However number of seed was about 300 seeds irrespective of fruit-set internode. Investigating viability of seed by BP test, general percent germination was recorded highest at 5 flower cluster above 20 internode of fruit-set internode. In contrast, condition of fruit setted on 3, 4, 6 flower cluster were high percent of germination, regarded as unnormal germination not to be as normal seedling by 2~3%. Seed harvested at 5 flower-cluster had high viability on hypocotyl height and diameter of seedling through early growth test, but were not significant. Therefore 5 flower-cluster was optimum fruit-set internode to obtain high-quality seed.

The experiment were carried out in 7-year-old ‘Campbell Early’ grape to increase work efficiency by fruit cluster thinning methods (Pedicel and berry thinning). Pedicel thinning, such as labor-saving cluster thinning of grape, was 6.7 fold higher than the berry thinning for work efficiency. The fruit cluster weight and number of berry were lower in the fruit cluster thinning fruits than in the none-fruit cluster thinning, however, the soluble solid content (SSC) was high and titratable acidity (TA) was low in the fruit cluster thinning fruits than in the none-fruit cluster thinning fruits. Therefore, the bruising rate of berries was decreased in the fruit cluster thinning fruits. Quality uniformity by fruit cluster thinning was proper in fruit cluster weight of 350~450 g when SSC and TA in part of lower, middle and upper of cluster was considered.
The objective of this study was to find out the optimum number of fruiting per a flower cluster on 5 domestic strawberry cultivars (Fragaria${\times}$ananassa Duch.), 'Daewang', 'Ssanta', 'Okmae', 'Seolhyang' and 'Maehyang'. Therefore, three ways of fruit thinning, 4~5 fruiting, 7~9 fruiting and all fruiting per a flower cluster were compared. After fruit thinning, the first fruit weights were increased from the second flower cluster on 'Seolhyang' and 'Maehyang', but from the third one on 'Daewang' and 'Ssanta'. There was no difference in first fruit weight by the flower thinning ways on 'Okmae'. The mean fruit weights of all the cultivars were increased and sugar contents also were increased, but acidities were decreased. The peduncle lengths were shortened by fruit thinning, but there was no difference in number of leaf, petiole length and crown diameter. Marketable yields by 4~5 fruiting per a flower cluster than all the fruit setting were higher 4.3% and 6.6% respectively on 'Daewang' and 'Maehyang'. In contrast, the yields were higher 3.1%, 3.5% and 9.1% in 7~9 fruiting per a flower cluster than all fruiting on 'Ssanta', 'Okmae' and 'Seolhyang' respectively. As the result, we could improve the fruit quality and could increase marketable yield by fruit thinning with matching flowering characteristics of those strawberry cultivars.

Shoot and the fruit growth characteristics of 'Campbell Early' grape cultivar were investigated after vine thinning using the main branch leader. Before vine thinning, branch diameter was 11.8 mm, but it decreased to 9.3 mm after vine thinning. The number of shoots per vine increased to 55.9-64.5 after vine thinning. The number of fruit clusters per shoot was higher (1.5-1.75) in the vine thinning plot than in the control (0.8). Consequently, the number of clusters per vine was 98.1-106.5 in the vine thinning plot, while that in the control was 24.4-28.0. However, soluble sugar content (SSC) and tartaric acidity showed no significant differences between the control and the vine thinning plot. The proportion of >351 g fruit cluster weight after vine thinning (81.0%) was significantly higher than that of the control (32.5%). These results imply that fruit quality based on the variation in cluster weight and fruit yield was enhanced by vine thinning using the main branch leader.
This study aims at investigating the effect of soil moisture control and truss limited high density culture on the growth, fruit yield and quality of tomato. To minimize of loss yield of tomato, flower cluster in number was limited to two and three truss and planting density was raised. Soil moisture control was started from 40 days after anthesis and irrigation point was set in -30kPa and -50kPa, which were compared with -10kPa For high density culture, the planting number of truss limited high density culture was planted twice as many as control. Soil moisture repression reduced the growth of stem diameter, leaf and plant height. Leaf chlorophyll content was higher in -50kPa and -30kPa than control. No significant differences, however, shows in -10kPa. The occurrence rate of bloom-end rot and cracking was increased by growing of irrigation repression. Pinching three fruit truss was higher than pinching two fruit truss in the occurrence rate of them. Soil moisture repression resulted in the reduction of fruit weight and in special, truss limited high density was distinctly decreased in -50kPa. The number of fruit was not affected by soil moisture control, but 3rd flower cluster was lower than 2nd flower cluster in the number of fruits and 2nd one was lower than 1st one. Under irrigation repression, rate of dry matter tended to grow in -30kPa, -50kPa compared with control and pinching three fruit truss was higher than two truss. Marketable yield dropped to 36.7%m 46.3 in -30kPa, -50kPa on pinching two fruit truss and dropped to 27.3%, 32.3% in 3rd flower cluster compared with control.

This study aimed to examine the effect of different fruit-loads on fruit yield, quality, and plant growth of 'Seolhyang' strawberry. Fruit loads were adjusted from the first to the fourth flower cluster so that the number of fruits became 20, 25, and 30, and non-flower thinning of some was made. The more the number of fruits per plant was, the greater the total yield obtained, but marketable yield decreased and non-marketable yield increased. Compared to the treatment whose fruit load was adjusted, the control with non-flower thinning had more fruit yield in the first and second flower clusters but tended to have less fruit yield in the third and fourth flower clusters. The lower the fruit load was, the more soluble solids content of fruits increased. The lower the fruit load of a flower cluster was, the faster its harvest time reached. Harvest of fruit load of 20 was faster by 10 days in the second and fourth flower clusters relative to the control. On November 24, 2012, flowering thinning of the first flower cluster was made. On March 7, 2013, fruit dry weight of the second flower cluster was most heavy in the control. Dry weight of roots decreased in the control and the fruit load of 30 compared to November 24. On April 9, fruit dry weight of the third flower cluster did not have significant difference according to fruit load, however the more the fruit load was, the smaller dry weight of leaf, root, and crown became, which were vegetative organs. On May 12, the more the fruit load, the smaller leaf area and dry weight of vegetative organs and differences from varying fruit-loads became considerable in later period of growth. Appropriate fruit load of 'Seolhyang' strawberry were from 20 to 25. Maintaining balance between vegetative and fruit growth by adjusting fruit load is very important for stable fruit production.
This experiment was carrid out to investigate the effect of organic fertilizer and plant growth regulators application on the growth and quality of tomato. The results are summarized as follows. 1. Plant height of tomato was recorded highest when chemical fertilizer plus organic fertilizer was applied, and did not have significant effects in number of leaf. But stem diameter was positively effected by chemical plus organic fertilizer application than chemical fertilizer alone. 2. Flower formation, flower weight, anther weight and ovary weight were generally increased by organic fertilizer application. 3. Fruit-set and number of flower were significantly increased by organic fertilizer application. 4. Deformity fruit was the lowest rate at chemical plus organic fertilizer application when it was 14.7 percent, and it was increased by chemical fertilizer application. 5. Days of ripening was slightly delayed by organic fertilizer application and also flowering date shortened by chemical fertilizer application. 6. Plant growth regulators had positive effects on number of flower, flower weight, anther weight, and ovary weight, and variations of their effect by cluster were apparent. 7. Fruit-set was increased by 2,4-D 10ppm and BA 20ppm treatments but was decreased by treatments of Ethephon 10ppm and control. 8. By the BA 20ppm and 2,4-D 10ppm treatments, the rate of deformity fruit was decreased and fruit ripening date was also shortened.

A study was conducted to evaluate the effects of irrigation (amount, interval) on tree growth, fruit quality, and cracking of organic 'Campbell Early' grapevine in 2012 and 2013. Three irrigation treatments were applied using a sprinkler system from mid-June to mid-August in 2012 and 2013, as follows: 10 mm was applied daily (10 mm-IR), 20 mm was applied every two days (20 mm-IR), and 30 mm was applied every five days (30 mm-IR). Soil electrical conductivity (EC) and temperature were found to be greatest in the 10 mm-IR treatment in both years. Soil moisture content ranged between 20-40% in the 10 mm-IR, between 20-60% in the 20 mm-IR, and between 20-70% in the 30 mm-IR treatment plots. The total number of leaves per shoot and shoot growth were found to be greatest in the 20 mm-IR and 30 mm-IR treatments, respectively. Cluster and berry weights, and cluster and berry sizes were not consistently affected by the treatments. The 10 mm-IR treatment resulted in an increase in fruit SSC, SSC/acidity ratio, and berry skin pigmentation ($b^*$; blue). Approximately 5% of fruit cracking was observed on average over both years in the 10 mm-IR-treated fruit, while the 30 mm-IR treatment resulted in nearly 18% of cracking in 2012. Average marketable fruit yield per year over two years was greatest for the 10 mm-IR treatment ($24.4t{\cdot}ha^{-1}$) followed by the 30 mm-IR treatment ($22.7t{\cdot}ha^{-1}$) and lastly the 20 mm-IR treatment ($22.2t{\cdot}ha^{-1}$). Thus, the 10 mm-IR treatment represents a suitable irrigation regimen for controlling leaf and shoot growth of vines grown under a rain-shelter system in sandy loam soils, while improving fruit sugar contents and skin color and limiting fruit cracking.
Background: This study was aimed to determine the optimal vine induction method for growing of Korean schisandra (Schisandra chinensis), by comparing plant growth and fruit yields between plants grown with either fence-type (U-type) or A-type induction. Methods and Results: Plants were transplanted on August 17, 2014, and the plant height, stem node number and weight were measured every two weeks, six times from June 17, 2016. The plant height, stem node number, and leaf length and width were higher with the A-type than with the U-type induction, by approximately 37.0%, 49.1%, 27.6%, and 12.7%, respectively. Although there was no significant difference between the photosynthesis rates of plants grown with the two vine induction method, the leaf area and leaf number per plant were higher in the plants grown with the A-type than the U-type, by approximately 23.7% and 46.0%, respectively. The number of green-color pixels, in a defined area of digital camera images of creeper leaves from the inducted vines, was significantly higher in the plants grown with the A-type than the U-type. The number of fruit clusters per plant was approximately 26 and 36, under the U-type and A-type, respectively. A two fold higher total fruit weight per plant was observed in the plants grown under the A-type (250 g/plant) than the U-type (120 g/plant). Conclusions: The A-type vine induction method is optimal for cultivation of Korean schisandra.
