Temperature History of Concrete exposed to Extremely Cold Weather with the Variation of Capacity of Heating Coil (열선 전력 용량에 따른 극한온도 조건에서의 콘크리트 온도이력 특성)

  • This paper is to report the results of mock-up test for concrete during severe cold weather. The temperature is fixed at -20℃. The mock-up specimens were fabricated simulating slab, wall and column. Heating coil with different heat capacity with 5 W and 15 W were embedded at slab specimen. Test results revealed that at -20℃, temperature dropped below 0℃ since around 70 hours. It takes 7 days to gain 45°D·D of maturity for avoiding frost damage at early age.

  • This study investigate the hydration heat history with variation of surface insulating material in cold weather concreting. According to the results, the temperature of concrete lowers below zero in 24hours, so early frost damage occurs in the case of exposure and 1 fold bubble sheet, but the lowest temperature keeps above zero, so a adiabatic effect is very favorable in the case of double bubble sheet and 부직포. Compressive strength of core specimen at 7 and 28 days is highest In the case of double bubble sheet and 부직포. But, considering convenience of construction and economical efficiency, it is thought that the most effective surface insulating material is 1 fold bubble sheet +blanket.

  • The climate on the Korean Peninsula has been warmed recently, abnormal weather conditions such as heat waves, cold waves, and tropical nights have been detected frequently. Precisely, the number of days with cold waves in the winter has increased, and rapid changes of temperature in the morning and afternoon have occurred frequently in the 2000s. Due to the previous phenomenons, this research is focused on evaluating the concrete's Chloride Penetration Resistance and Durability, and the difference of the resistance according to the W/C.

Flowering and Maturing Response to Seeding Date and Short-day Treatment in Vegetable Perilla (잎들깨의 개화 및 결실에 미치는 파종기와 단일처리의 영향)

  • Vegetable perilla, "Ipdlkkae 1"(Perilla frutescens var japonica Hara), was tested about the flowering and maturing responce in summer and winter. In summer season, it was researched about those responses according to the change of seeding date from May 15th to Oct. 15th at one month interval in the field. "Ipdlkkae 1" flowered Oct. 2nd under the day length of eleven hours and fourty-one minutes, compared with Sep. 6th (day length of twelve hours and fourty-three minutes) of "Yepsildlggae". And those responses showed that vegetable perilla was have to seeded before July 15th for two reason. The first is a unique response of perilla to day length. If perilla stay under short-day condition for some days, perilla will flower after four weeks. The second is a weather, especially frost and cold. In the test of latest seeding at Oct. 15th, the plants flowered more late than normal flowering period and they were not able to mature for frost of early winter. And this result showed that any other species, which has the characteristic of later flowering than that of "Ipdlkkae 1", could not able to mature in the field. In winter time, this species was tested about the same responses according to the change of short-day treatments. In the case of the test from May 1st (above fourteen hours day length), even if the test plants were stayed under short-day condition for more than 10 days, they were not able to mature, but flowerd. From the test of Apr. 15th, day length of thirteen hours, the plants were showed variable reaction to the short-day treatment. In this test, 11days for short-day treatment was a basic day to decide whether flowering was delayed or not. In the test from Apr. 1st, perilla seeds were able to harvest at least 5 days short-day treatment. In the final test from Mar. 15th, it had no need to take short-day treatment for harvesting of normal seeds, because the day length of that are twelve hours, which is an enough time to induce flowering and maturing, previously reported.

Frost Damage of Mulberry Tree according to Topographic Characteristics in Buan Province (부안지역에서 지형적 특성에 따른 뽕나무의 늦서리 피해)

  • This research was carried out to investigate frost damage of mulberry tree (Morus alba) according to topographic characteristics in Buan province. The first bud-break, leafing, blooming and harvest date of mulberry tree in 2010 were two, four, fourteen and eight days later than those in 2009, respectively. These results were that daily mean temperature during March and April in 2010 were lower than those in 2009 by $2.3^{\circ}C$ and $2.4^{\circ}C$. Frost damage of orchards at flat-bottomed valley, flat near hill and lake, and plain were 50.0%,12.0%, and 4.2%, respectively. Also, frost damage of branch of below 15 mm in diameter was serious than that of branch over 16 mm, but orchard at flat-bottomed valley was high as the range of 46.2~54.0%. These results in 2010 were caused by occurrence of below zero temperatures in leafing stage. Since then, many shoots came out at accessary bud on proximal and the top part of the branches. Therefore, frost damage of mulberry tree in Buan province in 2010 was caused by occurrence of below zero temperatures on April and topographic characteristics of orchard.

Determination of the Cold Weather Concreting Period and Early Frost Damage Risk Using Climate Data of Korea (기상자료를 이용한 우리나라 한중콘크리트 적용기간과 초기동해 위험일 산정)

  • In this paper, the periods of cold weather concrete and early frost damage depending on each region in South Korea were studied using the climate data from Korea meteorological administration. The specifications of Korea Concrete Institute(KCI) and Architectural Institute of Japan(AIJ) were applied to provide the periods of cold weather concrete. The periods of early frost damage risk(EFD) were calculated by Hasegawa's suggestion depending on 91 cities in Korea. Climate data for 5 years (2008~2012) were used to obtain both of the periods. Existing data from 1971 to 2000 were also used to compare differences in the periods between past and present study. The periods of cold weather concrete by KCI were calculated about 98 days on average. As the latitude goes up and close to mountain areas, the periods tend to be increased. The periods by present study was shown to be reduced compared to that of previous study by 1~2days. The period of EFD was provided with the level of daily lowest temperature from $-5^{\circ}C$, $-2^{\circ}C$ and $0^{\circ}C$. The beginning day of the period of EFD was earlier than the period of cold weather concrete and the finishing day of the period of EFD was later than the period of cold weather concrete.

Weather Data and Praying for Rain and Fine Weather Written in the True Historical Record of the Chosun Dynasty (조선왕조실록에 기록된 기상요소, 기우제 및 기청제)

  • After analyzing the record of climate of the Chosun era with the weather data written on the true history of the Chosun Dynasty, and in comparison with the latest weather data in Seoul, the following conclusion has been reached. It s not easy to restore the climate of the Chosun era with the true history of the Chosun Dynasty only, for the data of the Chosun era is nothing but 5.4% of that the recent 10 years, centering around Seoul. The number of days of the praying for rain and fine weather have nothing to do with those of precipitation. The monthly number of days of precipitation and hail are similar to those of the recent 10 years, even though the data is not enough. The situation of the days of frost and fog are very different from that of the recent ,10 years. This suggests that they recorded the situation when there was a lot of casualties to men and property, while they didn't record it when there were no casualties because the precipitation occured at the time.

  • Concrete exposed to severely low temperature below $-20^{\circ}C$ should be provided with proper heat supplying curing to protect the concrete from early frost damage at the time of pouring.meanwhile, so far, effective heat curingmethods of the concrete under severely low temperature are not well established in Korea. For this reason, the objective of this paper is to provide effective heat curingmethod of concrete exposed to severely low temperature to protect early frost damage by varying the combination of heat curingmaterial combinations. Temperature history,maturity development and core strength results are investigated. Fourmock-up specimens simulating slab, wall and column were prepared and heat insulation, heat supplying and both were applied. Test results indicate that the combination of quadruple layer bubble sheet(4BS) and embedding of heating cable has desirable performance for a slab, and heat supplying curing inside heat enclosure and heat generationmat also shows desirable performance for a wall, and for a column, use of EPS heat insulation has proper performance against early frost damage, which reaches $45^{\circ}D{\cdot}D$ and helps the concretemaintain above $0^{\circ}C$ within 3 days. Themethodsmentioned above are believed to be optimum protection from early frost damage of the concrete under $-20^{\circ}C$.

An Experimental Study on The Compressive Strength of Soil Stabilized with Quick Lime and Briquette ash (안정처리토의 강도특성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • In order to have compressive strength tests and frost heaving tests, two sorts of soil samples at Chonbuk-Do area were used. According to this research, the compressive strength of soil which was mixed by quick lime, was largely increased until 28 days but after 28 days, the increment of strength was seldom found and its maximum compressive strength increasing rate for content of quick lime was $10{\sim}15%$ scope. In the mixed rates of quick lime and briquette ash, the compressive strength of soil which was mixed by quick lime and briquette ash, was increased by increasing mixed rates of quick lime and its compressive strength was increased by additional quantity. The compressive strength of mixed soil within freezing-thawing 1 cycle was diminished around 30% compared to non-freezing soil's 28 days compressive strength but there were no movements after 2 cycle.
