This paper describes a power control scheme to improve the performance of a fuel cell battery hybrid power source for residential application. The proposed power control scheme includes a power control strategy to control the power flow of the fuel cell hybrid power system and a digital control technique for a front-end dc-dc converter of the fuel cell. The power control strategy enables the fuel cell to operate within the high efficiency region defined by the polarization curve and efficiency curve of the fuel cell. A dual boost converter with digital control is applied as a front-end dc-dc converter to control the fuel cell output power. The digital control technique of the converter employs a moving-average digital filter into its voltage feedback loop to cancel the low frequency harmonic current drawn from the fuel cell and then limits the fuel cell output current to a current limit using a predictive current limiter to keep the fuel cell operation within the high efficiency region as well as to minimize the fuel cell oxygen starvation.
This paper presents an IHQRR (Integrated High Quality Rectifier Regulator) BIFRED (Boost Integrated Flyback Rectifier Energy Storage DC-DC) converter fed BLDC (Brushless DC) motor drive. A reduced sensor topology is derived by utilizing a BIFRED converter to operate in a dual DCM (Discontinuous Conduction Mode) thus utilizing a voltage follower approach for the PFC (Power Factor Correction) and voltage control. A new approach for speed control is proposed using a single voltage sensor. The speed of the BLDC motor drive is controlled by varying the DC link voltage of the front end converter. Moreover, fundamental frequency switching of the VSI's (Voltage Source Inverter) switches is used for the electronic commutation of the BLDC motor which reduces the switching losses in the VSI. The proposed drive is designed for a wide range of speed control with an improved power quality at the AC mains which falls within the recommended limits imposed by international power quality standards such as IEC 61000-3-2.
Front end AC to DC converters of the boost type are used in traction applications for generating the DC link for the inverters. A GTO based converter is usually switched with a switching frequency of 300 to 500Hz, resulting in low frequency harmonic problems. In order to avoid this, multiple converters with phase shifted carrier signals are used to suppress the low frequency harmonics. A detailed study of an AC to DC converter, parallel operated with reduced sensor and improved power-factor in light load conditions is presented in this paper.
In this paper, a buck DC-DC bridge converter is used as a power factor correction (PFC) converter for feeding a voltage source inverter (VSI) based permanent magnet brushless DC motor (PMBLDCM) drive. The front end of the PFC converter is a diode bridge rectifier (DBR) fed from single phase AC mains. The PMBLDCM is used to drive the compressor of an air conditioner through a three-phase voltage source inverter (VSI) fed from a variable voltage DC link. The speed of the air conditioner is controlled to conserve energy using a new concept of voltage control at a DC link proportional to the desired speed of the PMBLDC motor. Therefore, VSI operates only as an electronic commutator of the PMBLDCM. The current of the PMBLDCM is controlled by setting the reference voltage at the DC link as a ramp. The proposed PMBLDCM drive with voltage control-based PFC converter was designed and modeled. The performance is simulated in Matlab-Simulink environment for an air conditioner compressor load driven through a 3.75 kW, 1500 rpm PMBLDC motor. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed speed control scheme, the evaluation results demonstrate improved efficiency of the complete drive with the PFC feature in a wide range of speed and input AC voltage.

Recently, with increasing efficiency of DSC (photo-electrochemical using a nano-particle), The Performance of DSC solar generation system also needs improvement. The approach consists of a Fly-back DC-DC (transfer ratio 1:10) converter to boost the DSC cell voltage to 300VDC. The four switch (MOSFET) inverter is employed to produce 220V, 60Hz AC outputs. High performance, easy manufacturability, lower component count., safety and cost are addressed. Protection and diagnostic features form an important part of the design. Another highlight of the proposed design is the control strategy, which allows the inverter to adapt to the: requirements of the load as well as the power source. A unique aspect of the design is the use of the DSP TMS320LF2406 to control the inverter by current and voltage feed-back. Efficient and smooth control of the: power drawn from the DSC Cell is achieved by controlling the front end DC-DC converter in current mode.
In this paper, a novel active boost converter for SR drive is proposed. An active capacitor circuit is added in the front-end. Based on this active capacitor network, when boost switch turns off, this network seems as passive capacitor network. And the voltage of boost capacitor can keep balance with dc-link voltage automatically. In the capacitor network, discharging voltage is general dc-link voltage in parallel-connected capacitors; charging voltage is double dc-link voltage in series-connected capacitors. When boost switch turns on, two capacitors are connected in series, and discharging voltage is up to double dc-link voltage. So the fast excitation current can be obtained from this mode. Profit from fast excitation and fast demagnetization mode, the performance and output power can be improved. Some computer simulations are done to verify the performance of proposed converter.

This paper presents a novel Power Factor Corrected(PFC) single-stage AC/DC Half-Bridge converter, which features discontinuous conduction mode(DCM) and soft-switching. The reduced conduction losses are achieved by the employment of a novel power factor correction circuitry, instead of the conventional configuration composed of a front-end rectifier followed by a boost converter. To identify the validity of the proposed converter, simulated results of 500[W] converter with 100[V] input voltage and 50[V] output voltage are presented.
An analysis of the junction capacitance in resonant rectifiers which has a significant impact on the operating point of resonance circuits is studied in this paper, where the junction capacitance of the rectifier diode is to decrease the resonant current and output voltage in the circuit when compared with that in an ideal rectifier diode. This can be represented by a simplified series resonant equivalent circuit and a voltage transfer function versus the normalized operating frequency at varied values of the resonant capacitor. A low voltage to high voltage push-pull DC/DC resonant converter was used as a design example. The design procedure is based on the principle of the half bridge class-DE resonant rectifier, which ensures more accurate results. The proposed scheme provides a more systematic and feasible solution than the conventional resonant push-pull DC/DC converter analysis methodology. To increase circuit efficiency, the main switches and the rectifier diodes can be operated under the zero-voltage and zero-current switching conditions, respectively. In order to achieve this objective, the parameters of the DC/DC converter need to be designed properly. The details of the analysis and design of this DC/DC converter's components are described. A prototype was constructed with a 62-88 kHz variable switching frequency, a 12 $V_{DC}$ input voltage, a 380 $V_{DC}$ output voltage, and a rated output power of 150 W. The validity of this approach was confirmed by simulation and experimental results.

A novel passive boost power converter forsingle-phaseswitched reluctance motor is presented. A simple passive circuit is proposed comprisingthree diodes and one capacitor. The passive circuitis added in the front-end of a conventional asymmetric converter to obtain high negative bias. Based on this passive network, the terminal voltage of the converter side is a general DC-link voltage level in parallel mode up to a double DC-link voltage level in series mode. Thus,it can suppress the negative torque generation from the tail current and improve the output power. The results of the comparative simulation and experiments forthe conventional and proposed converter verify the performance of the proposed converter.
