박판성형 마찰거동에 미치는 블랭크 홀딩력의 영향 (Effects of Blank Holding Force on Friction Behavior in Sheet Metal Forming)

  • In this study, in order to see effect of the blank holding force on the friction behavior in the sheet metal forming, a sheet metal friction tester is designed and manufactured, which can measure friction forces in various forming conditions, such are lubrication, die roughness, drawing speed, radius of die corner, blank holding force, etc., and performed the friction test in which friction coefficients in various blank holding forces and pulling speeds are calculated using Coulomb's friction law. The friction test reveals that friction coefficient decreases maximum 30% as the blank holding force and the drawing speed are increased to 2.5kN and 1500mm/min, respectively.

윤활과 표면조도를 고려한 박판 성형 마찰 모델 (Friction Model of Sheet Metal Forming Considering Lubricant and Surface Roughness)

  • In order to find the effect of material property and lubricant viscosity on the frictional characteristics a sheet metal friction tester was designed and tensile test, surface roughness test, and friction test were performed with several kinds of drawing oils. Test results show that as the lubricant viscosity becomes lower, the friction coefficient is higher. When surface roughness is extremely low or high, friction coefficient is also high. Using these test results, the friction model considering lubricant viscosity and surface roughness is developed. The validity and accuracy of the friction model are shown by comparing the punch loads among FEM analysis results employing current friction model and conventional friction model respectively and experimental measurement.

  • The effect of manufacturing parameters such as molding and curing conditions on friction characteristics of friction materials was studied using a pad-on-disk type friction tester. Friction materials containing 15 ingredients were investigated for an optimal manufacturing condition for the best friction characteristics employing Taguchi robust experimental design. The main effects were different for mechanical properties and friction characteristics and were strongly influenced by manufacturing conditions. An optimum manufacturing condition was obtained to achieve the best friction characteristics concerning mechanical properties(hardness, porosity, wear resistance), friction stability, and change of rotor temperature.

  • In order to measure the friction coefficient used in sheet metal forming analysis, a friction tester was manufactured and friction tests were performed in various forming conditions. Based on the friction coefficients measured, a mathematical friction model was constructed in terms of lubricant viscosity, blank holding force, punch velocity and sheet roughness. In addition, the effect of the number of forming parameters in the calculation of friction coefficient on the accuracy of sheet metal forming analysis was investigated by comparing the punch loads obtained from the FEM simulation, in which the friction coefficients were determined by a few parameters with the experimental measurement.

자동차용 마찰재의 연마재가 마찰특성에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Abrasive Particles on the Frictional Properties of Automotive Brake Friction Materials)

  • The frictional properties of automotive brake pads with four different ceramic materials such as magnesia, hematite, alumina, and zircon were investigated. A Krauss type friction tester using gray iron disks was used to examine the friction coefficient, intensity of friction force oscillation, and the tribe-surfaces. Results showed that the friction coefficient increased as the hardness of abrasives increases. Friction oscillation was also increased with hardness of the abrasives. However, the friction materials containing less abrasive particles produced stable friction films on the sliding surface. The transition between two-body and three body abrasion during sliding also played a crucial role in destructing the friction film on the pad surface and in determining various frictional properties.

  • In order to find the effect of lubricant viscosity, sheet surface roughness, tool geometry, and forming speed on the frictional characteristics in sheet metal forming, a sheet metal friction tester was designed and manufactured and friction test of various sheet were performed. Friction test results showed that as the lubricant viscosity becomes lower, the friction coefficient is higher. When surface roughness is extremely low or high, the friction coefficient is relatively high. The result also show that as the punch radius and punch speed becomes bigger, the friction coefficient is smaller. Using experimental results, the mathematical expression between friction coefficient and lubricant viscosity, surface roughness, punch comer radius, or punch speed is also described.

  • Friction and wear characteristics of novolac resin-based friction materials reinforced with aramid pulp and potassium titanate were investigated by using a pad-on-disk type friction tester. Friction properties such as friction stability, surface morphology, and wear rate varied according to the relative amount of aramid pulp and potassium titanate. The friction materials reinforced with both aramid pulp and potassium titanate showed superior friction stability and wear resistance due to the formation of durable transfer layer.

The sensitivity of friction coefficient is mainly governed by lubricant viscosity and sheet surface roughness.
