The purpose of this research is to analyze the educational experiences of competent engineering students and finding the reason why they invest their time and efforts engaging in school activities. Five students with high GPA, high K-CESA scores and successful employment or entrance test scores, participated in the survey and the interview. In checking their responses, their activities' records were gathered from school DB. According to the modified framework based on the personal investment theory, the interviews, survey and DB records were analyzed on the sense of self, the social cultural environment, and pattern of behaviors in schools. The competent engineering students are able to manage themselves, in maintaining a good relationship with the collegiate, and in having high self-efficiency. They also tend to put effort into their studies and participate in inbound and outbound school activities. At the last part, freshmen foundation, relationship within college, students' activity related future career, economic stability during studies are suggested for supporting students in universities.

Purpose: This study aimed to understand freshman's experience during a mentoring program at a newly opened nursing college. Methods: The study was qualitative research using focus groups. Data were collected through in-depth interviews performed from May 2 to May 30, 2011. The focus group interviews were conducted with 15 freshmen on their experiences with their mentors. The data were analyzed by the Colaizzi's method, in which the meaningful statements were extracted. Results: We identified the six categories from sixteen theme-clusters and thirty five themes: 1) meaningful relationship, 2) unexpected help, 3) realization, 4) solidification of one's determination, 5) establishment of a mentor image, and 6) wistful sense. Conclusion: The mentoring program was effective for a nursing college freshman to develop their vision and identity as a professional nursing.

This study examines how the cognitive-behavioral group counseling influence on the career stress, the self-efficacy and the optimism for the coping of the career stress of students in department of aeronautical science and flight operation of H Aerospace University. The subjects of this research were 27 freshmen in the department of aeronautical science and flight operations of H Aerospace University. They were divided into 2 groups: experimental group and control group. The experimental group got the group counseling program 7 times for 3 weeks. The results show that the cognitive-behavioral group counseling program can be a very useful tool to reduce career stress and to enhance self-efficacy and optimism of students.

The purpose of this study is to investigate cosmetic purchasing behaviors among female college students in Cheongju area. Three-hundred female college students who were attending universities in Cheongju area were selected. Questionnaire survey method and SPSS computer program were utilized. The findings of this study were as follow: First, 8.5% of monthly disposible money was spent for cosmetic and this amount of cosmetic expenditure was a little burden to female college students. Second, most female college students began to make up from freshmen or sophomore. And they were making up for self-satisfaction rather than showing off. Third, the purchasing behaviors of female college students were most affected by TV advertisements. Fourth, female college students thought that cosmetic is a necessity rather than luxury for them. And they were considering quality when they buy cosmetic first and price second. Fifth, female college students showed that rather low level of impulse purchasing behaviors.

This study aims to identify how participants in online-incorporated English learning perceive interaction between achievement and factors of learning and personality. Using grounded theory analysis, this study attempts to generate a theoretical model depicting how the factors work with the L2 learners situated in the learning setting. A total of 231 college freshmen participated in online and offline EFL learning programs for the duration of one semester. In addition, all respondents completed a survey questionnaire on their learning experiences. In the investigation of the differences between low- and high-proficiency groups, audio-taped interviews with 20 selected students, 10 from each group, have revealed differences not only in the types of personal and instructional factors, but also, more importantly, in the interrelationship between these factors in each group's learning model. These models effectively explained the statistically significant differences in four questionnaire items, such as online learning and contributions of offline class sections to their L2 achievement. These findings entail L2 practitioners' shared understandings of their students' perspectives of learning in the specific L2 learning context.

The purposes of this study were to measure university academic achievement based on gender. We analyzed university academic achievement based on gender. The subjects for this analysis were 322 students from freshmen to seniors who received grades in their first semester in the computer engineering department at a university located in the Chungcheong area. The major findings of this study were as follows. First, the average university academic achievement was 3.01. Second, the university academic achievement of female students was higher than that of male students in the entire curriculum, liberal arts, and major subjects. Students showed higher academic achievement when their grades rose. Male students showed higher rate of rise when their grades rose compared to female students. This paper proposes that it is necessary to develop programs to further adaption to university life for males. Since male students showed significantly lower university academic achievement, various programs like counseling and mentoring are needed.

In this paper, we study the influence analysis of admission variables including their characteristics on academic achievements of freshmen at K university in Busan. First, multiple regression analysis is used to examine the main effects of admission variables including students' characteristics on the academic achievements. Also, Decision tree analysis is used to examine the interaction effects for the admission variables on the academic achievements. The results of this paper may be helpful to K university in designing effective admissions strategies for recruiting students.

The affricates of the Korean were alveolar sounds in the 15th century. Alveolar sounds have changed to post-alveolar or alveo-palatal sounds since the 18th century, at least in Southern Korean. These days, the advanced articulation of the affricates are observed, especially in the speech of young generations. The aim of this paper is to show the differences of the affricates when they are pronounced in alveo-palatal and in a more advanced position than in alveo-palatal by their cut-off frequencies. We have recorded speeches of freshmen(in their early twenties) at Seoul National University. The result was that the cut-off frequency of the advanced articulation in auditory observations was higher than that of the others. We have found in particular, that women have tendency to advance their place of articulation of the affricates.

In this paper, the system is implemented in four ways , For those who want to learn Chinese characters using the internet, and To make the learning more interesting and entertaining. Four different learning methods have been provided , using the transition process of Chinese characters, games, animations, and an illustration of the relationships between Chinese Characters and korean letters. The subjects of the evaluation were freshmen polled about the Chinese character learning system. The evaluation methods are : the validity of the research content is evaluated using the Cronbach's coefficient alpha and the performance of the system is evaluated by F-type of Analysis of variance.

Based on the importance and the necessity of the study on history of mathematics and mathemtics education using history of mathematics for finding the cultural identity and values of our traditional mathematics, we refer to two types of teaching and learning methods utilizing 'WonYongSamBangHoGu', the second theme of 'SanSulGwanGyeon' written by Lee Sang Hyuk. First, we present various cases of 'WonYongSamBangHoGu' constructed utilizing kind of mathematics learning software, GeoGebra by high school freshmen belonging to the Education Centers for the Gifted in Seoul Science Park. Second, We modernly reinterpret the questions contained in 'WonYongSamBangHoGu' and show several developed items using it.
