  • In this paper, a comparative study on the frequency estimation methods using IRDWT (Improved Recursive Discrete Wavelet Transform), FRDWT(Fast Recursive Discrete Wavelet Transform), and GCDFT(Gain Compensator Discrete Fourier Transform) is presented. The 345[kV] power system modeling data of the Republic of Korea by EMTP-RV is used to evaluate the performance of the proposed two kinds of RDWT(IRDWT and FRDWT) and GCDFT. The simulation results show that the frequency estimation technique based on FRDWT could be the optimal frequency measurement method, and thus can be applied to FDR(Fault Disturbance Recorder) for wide-area blackout protection or frequency measurement apparatus.

  • This paper examined dynamic characteristics of high speed trains using a time varying frequency transform. Fourier transform based methods are frequently used for the calculation of the dynamic characteristics of trains in the frequency domain, but they cannot represent the time-varying characteristics. Therefore it is necessary to examine their characteristics using a time-varying frequency transform. For the examination, the non-stationary vibration of wheelset, bogie, and carbody are measured using accelerometers and stored in a data aquisition system. They are processed with localization of the data by modulating with a window function, and Fourier transform is taken to each localized data, called the short-time Fourier transform. From the processed results, time varying auto-spectral density, cross-spectral density, frequency response, and coherence functions have been calculated. From the analysis, it is confirmed that the time varying frequency transform is a useful method for analyzing the dynamic characteristics of high speed trains.

  • The wear process of end mill is a so complicated process that a more reliable technique is required for the monitoring and controling the tool life and its performance. This research presents a new tool wear monitoring method based on the sound signal generated on the machining. The experiment carried out continuous-side-milling for 4 cases using the high-speed steel slot drill under wet condition. The sound pressure was measured at 0.5m from the cutting zone by a dynamic microphone, and was analyzed at frequency domain. The tooth passing frequency appears as a harmonics form, and end mill wear is related with the first harmonic. It can be concluded from the result that the tool wear is correlate with the intensity of the measured sound at tooth passing frequency estimation of end mill wear using sound is possible through frequency analysis at tooth passing frequency under the given circumstances.

  • Purpose: This article provides a cause of breakage and a method for improving reliability of the headlight system installed in the main battle tank K2. Method: The natural frequency of the headlight system is estimated by using the finite element method. In addition, the allowable stress level under the severe conditions is provided through vibration test of a single item and a system level. Results: Based on the finite element analysis and the vibration test in the frequency domain, the lamp of the left headlight system fails by the resonance effect. Conclusion: For improving the reliability of the headlight system, the thickness of protector frame is increased to avoid the resonance effect.

  • One of the challenging tasks in visual inspection using CCD camera is to identify surface defects in an image with complex textured backgeound. In microscopic view, the surface of real objects shows regular or random textured patterns. In this paper, we present a visual inspection algorithm to extract abnormal surface defects in an image with textured background. The algorithm uses the space and frequency information at the same time by introducing the Dominant Frequency Map(DFM) which can describe the frequency characteristics of every small local region of an input image. We demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the method through a series of real experiments for a 14" TV CRT mold. The method successfully identifies a variety of infinitesimal defects, whose size is larger than $50\mu\textrm{m}$, of the mold. The experimental results show that the DFM based method is less sensitive to the environmental changes, such as illumination and defocusing, than conventional vision techniques.ques.

  • Through-wall ultra-wide band (UWB) radar has been considered as one of the preferred and non-contact technologies for the targets detection owing to the better time resolution and stronger penetration. The high time resolution is a result of a larger of bandwidth of the employed UWB pulses from the radar system, which is a useful tool to separate multiple targets in complex environment. The article emphasised on human subject localization and detection. Human subject usually can be detected via extracting the weak respiratory signals of human subjects remotely. Meanwhile, the range between the detection object and radar is also acquired from the 2D range-frequency matrix. However, it is a challenging task to extract human respiratory signals owing to the low signal to clutter ratio. To improve the feasibility of human respiratory signals detection, a new method is developed via analysing the standard deviation based kurtosis of the collected pulses, which are modulated by human respiratory movements in slow time. The range between radar and the detection target is estimated using joint time-frequency analysis (JTFA) of the analysed characteristics, which provides a novel preliminary signature for life detection. The breathing rates are obtained using the proposed accumulation method in time and frequency domain, respectively. The proposed method is validated and proved numerically and experimentally.

  • PZT(30/70) thick film was fabricated by using 1,3 propanediol-based sol-gel method. Prepared film of pyroelectric property was investigated by Dynamic method of modulation frequency dependence. Pyroelectric coefficient was obtained about 5.0$\times$10$^{-8}$ C/$\textrm{cm}^2$.K. The figure of merits for voltage responsivity and specific detectivity were 3.4$\times$10$^{-11}$ C.cm/J and 5.9$\times$10$^{-9}$ C.cm/J, respectively, because of relative high-dielectric constant and high-pyroelectric coefficient. Voltage responsivity was increased at low modulation frequency and it was decreased at high modulation frequency. Voltage responsivity was maximum 1.84 V/W at 10 Hz. As Johnson noise is dominant, Noise voltage was increased nearly proportional to f$^{-1}$ 2/. Noise equivalent power and specific detectivity were 2.83$\times$10$^{-7}$ W/Hz$^{1}$2/ and 3.13$\times$10$^{5}$ cm.Hz$^{1}$2//W the same frequency at 80 Hz, respectively.

  • In inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR) imaging, An ISAR autofocusing algorithm is essential to obtain well-focused ISAR images. Traditional methods have relied on the approximation that the phase error due to target motion is a function of the cross-range dimension only. However, in the stepped-frequency radar system, it tends to become a two-dimensional function of both down-range and cross-range, especially when target's movement is very fast and the pulse repetition frequency (PRF) is low. In order to remove the phase error along down-range, this paper proposes a method called SAEM (subarray averaging and entropy minimization) [1] that uses a subarray averaging concept in conjunction with the entropy cost function in order to find target motion parameters, and a novel 2-D optimization technique with the inherent properties of the proposed entropy-based cost function. A well-focused ISAR image can be obtained from the combination of the proposed method and a traditional autofocus algorithm that removes the phase error along the cross-range dimension. The effectiveness of this method is illustrated and analyzed with simulated targets comprised of point scatters.

  • In a large diameter piping system, high frequency energy can produce excessive noise, high vibration, and failures of thermo-well, instrumentation, and attached small-bore piping. High frequency energy is generated by flow induced vibration like vortex shedding in orifices and valves. Once this energy is generated, amplification may occur from acoustical and/or structural resonances, resulting in high amplitude vibration and noise. At low frequencies, pipe vibration occurs laterally along the pipe's length, but at higher frequencies, the pipe shell wall vibrates radially across its cross-section. The simple beam analogy which is based on the beam mode vibration can not be applied to evaluate shell mode vibration. ASME OM3 recommends that the stress be measured directly by strain gauge and be evaluated according to the fatigue curves of the piping material. This Paper discusses the excitation and amplification mechanism relevant to high frequency energy generation in piping system, the monitoring method of the shell mode vibration in ASME OM3, the evaluation method generally used in the industry. Finally this paper presents the stress evaluation of the cavitating venturi down stream piping, where high frequency shell mode vibrations were observed during the operation.

  • The Annals of the Joseon Dynasty are important records registered in UNESCO. This paper proposes a method to analyze big data by examining the frequency of words in the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty translated into Korean. When you access the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty from an Internet site and try to investigate the frequency of words, if you directly access the source included in the page, the keywords necessary for the HTML grammar are included, so that it is difficult to analyze big data based on the frequency of words in the necessary text. In this paper, we propose a method to analyze the text of the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty using Java's Jsoup crawling function. In the experiment, only the Taejo part of the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty was extracted to verify the validity of this method.
