Better Analysis of Lower Bounds of Frequency Assignment Problems in Wireless Networks with Cellular Topology (셀룰러 위상구조 무선망에서의 주파수 할당 문제의 향상된 하한 값 분석)

  • Because of its exponential growth of data and voice transmissions through wireless communications, efficient resource management became more important factor when we design wireless networks. One of those limited resources in the wireless communications is frequency bandwidth. As a solution of increasing reusability of resources, the efficient frequency assignment problems on wireless networks have been widely studied. One suitable approach to solve these frequency assignment problems is transforming the problem into traditional graph coloring problems in graph theory. However, most of frequency assignments on arbitrary network topology are NP-Complete problems. In this paper, we consider the Chromatic Bandwidth Problem on the cellular topology wireless networks. It is known that the lower bound of the necessary number of frequencies for this problem is $O(k^2)$. We prove that the lower bound of the necessary number of frequencies for the Chromatic Bandwidth Problem is $O(k^3)$ which is tighter lower bound than the previous known result.

A Study for the Improvement of the Brake Squeal Noise (제동시 브레이크 소음 개선에 관한 연구)

  • The frequency of the brake squeal noise can be changed during braking, and this frequency shifting is due to variation of braking deceleration rate. The natural frequency of the brake system also shifted according to deceleration rate. It makes difficult to treat this problem. This paper shows an experimental study on the brake squeal noise having main frequencies of about 450~500Hz. And it shows how to improve the brake squeal noise problem.

  • A robust bending frequency tracker is proposed to design the adaptive notch filter which removes the time-varying missile structural modes from the sensor measurements. To do this, the state-space form of a bending frequency model is derived under the assumption that the bending signal could be described as the lightly damped sinusoid. Since the resultant bending frequency model contains the parametric uncertainties in the measurement matrix, the design problem of bending frequency tracker is tackled by applying the robust Kalman filter to the model. This technique could be easily expanded to the multiple frequencies case because it newly illuminates the bending frequency tracking problem in view of general state estimation.

  • Pneumatic exciters can be good replacements of electrodynamic, piezoelectric and hydraulic exciters owing to simple structure and large exciting force. One problem to be solved is a slow response caused by compressibility of air. Desirable frequency response characteristics of exciter are constant magnitude and zero degree phase, because users want no time delay between input signal and output force. For this reason, frequency range of pneumatic exciters is limited about 0~1 Hz. Therefore, expansion of frequency range is an important issue when designing the pneumatic exciter. In this paper, the pneumatic exciter which has same structure with active pneumatic isolator is dealt with. The dynamic characteristics are presented, and its limitation of expanding frequency range is shown based on analytical studies. Then the pneumatic exciter with dual-chamber is suggested to overcome this problem. Based on simulation study, a design method is presented.

Frequency Assignment Method using NFD and Graph Coloring for Backbone Wireless Links of Tactical Communications Network (통합 필터 변별도와 그래프 컬러링을 이용한 전술통신망 백본 무선 링크의 주파수 지정 방법)

  • The tactical communications network has to be deployed rapidly at military operation area and support the communications between the military command systems and the weapon systems. For that, the frequency assignment is required for backbone wireless links of tactical communications network without frequency interferences. In this paper, we propose a frequency assignment method using net filter discrimination (NFD) and graph coloring to avoid frequency interferences. The proposed method presents frequency assignment problem of tactical communications network as vertex graph coloring problem of a weighted graph. And it makes frequency assignment sequences and assigns center frequencies to communication links according to the priority of communication links and graph coloring. The evaluation shows that this method can assign center frequencies to backbone communication links without frequency interferences. It also shows that the method can improve the frequency utilization in comparison with HTZ-warfare that is currently used by Korean Army.

  • Detecting the fundamental frequency(Fo) of the speech signal is a problem in many speech applications. A problem of the pitch detection method in the frequency domain is occurred by the first formant and the background noise. Thus, in this paper, we proposed a pitch detection algorithm in the frequency domain that reduces the effects of the first formant and the background noise by the spectral AMDF function. Several computer simulation results showed that the proposed algorithm was very effective for fundamental frequency detection.

  • This paper investigate the optimum thickness distribution of plate structure with different essential boundary conditions in the fundamental natural frequency maximization problem. In this study, the fundamental natural frequency is considered as the objective function to be maximized and the initial volume of structures is used as the constraint function. The computer-aided geometric design (CAGD) such as Coon's patch representation is used to represent the thickness distribution of plates. A reliable degenerated shell finite element is adopted calculate the accurate fundamental natural frequency of the plates. Robust optimization algorithms implemented in the optimizer DoT are adopted to search optimum thickness values during the optimization iteration.   • In this paper, we present a frequency reassignment problem (FRP) arising from the reconfiguration of radio networks such as adding new base stations (BSs) and changing the number of frequencies assigned to BSs. For this problem, we develop an integer programming (IP) model that minimizes the sum of frequency reassignment cost and the cost for unsatisfied frequency demands, while avoiding interference among frequencies. To obtain tight lower bounds, we develop some valid inequalities and devise an objective function relaxation scheme. Also, we develop a simple but efficient heuristic procedure to solve large size problems. Computational results show that the developed valid inequalities are effective for improving lower bounds. Also, the proposed tabu search heuristic finds tight upper bounds with average optimality gap of 2.3%.

Frequency Window Method for the Vibration of Primary-Secondary Structural Systems (Frequency Window Method에 의한 1차-2차 구조시스템의 진동특성)

  • The dynamic properties of primary-secondary structural systems are examined using analytical expressions for the modal properties. The analysis begins with a Lagrange multiplier formulation to develop a characteristic equation in terms of primary system mobilities and secondary system impedances. The complexity of the characteristic equation by developing new method, frequency window method. It is shown that the reduction of complexity can only be obtained by a reduction of accuracy, but by retaining the dominant effects of the dynamics problem, the loss of accuracy is not excessive. The reduced problem is examined further to develop simple expressions for the modal properties which provide insight into the resonance characteristics of the primary-secondary system problem. The results are useful as a complement to existing computational techniques for understanding and interpreting dynamic analysis results.

  • There are two wave modes induced by an oscillating body on the free surface of a two-layer fluid: the barotropic and baroclinic modes. To investigate the generated waves composed of two modes, a radiation problem involving a heaving rectangular body was solved in a numerical wave tank. A new artificial damping zone scheme was developed and applied in the frequency-domain analysis. The performance of this damping scheme was compared with given radiation boundary conditions for various conditions. The added mass and radiation damping coefficients for the heaving rectangular body were also calculated for various fluid-density ratios.
