  • The purposes of this study were to identify the overall levels of consumer problem, consumer competencies and purchase pattern of urban low-income consumers and to examine the factors affecting the consumer problem and the subareas-market environment problem(MEP) and transaction relation problem(TRP). The related factors, that is, independent variables were competencies-related factors(consumption-oriented attitude, attitude on consumerism, consumer knowledge), purchase pattern-related factors (search pattern, credit pattern, peddler pattern) and socio-demorgraphic factors(age, educational level, family size). For this purpose, a survey was conducted by interview using questionaires on 198 homemakers that lived in the poor areas of Seoul. Statistics used for data analysis were Frequency Distribution, Percentile, Mean, Pearson's Correlation, One-way ANOVA, Scheffe-test, Breakdown and Multiple Classification Analysis. Major findings were as follows: 1) In the level of consum r problem were in the middle level and the level of MEP were higher than that of TRP. The attitude on consumption-orientation was so negative, while attitude on consumerism was positive. The level of consumer knowledge was in the middle level. The urban low-income consumers searched a little and depended on credit and peddler in the low level. 2) Consumer problem perceived by urban low-income consumers differed significantly according to attitude on consumerism, credit pattern, monthly charge of peddler purchase. The MEP depended on attitude on consumerism and monthly charge of peddler purchase, and the TRP was affected by credit pattern and attitude on consumerism. Resulting from MCA, the most influencial variable was attitude on consumerism and credit pattern in the consumer problem, and attitude on consumerism in the MEP, and credit pattenr in the TRP.

  • Efficient ordering of decision variables is one of the methods that find solutions quickly in the depth first search using backtracking. At this time, development of variables ordering algorithms considering dynamic and static properties of the problems is very important. However, to exploit optimal variable ordering algorithms appropriate to the problems. In this paper, we propose a problem classifying rule which provides problem type based on variables' properties, and use this rule to predict optimal type of variable ordering algorithms. We choose frequency allocation problem as a DS-type whose decision variables have dynamic and static properties, and estimate optimal variable ordering algorithm. We also show the usefulness of problem classifying rule by applying base station problem as a special case whose problem type is not generated from the presented rule.

  • This study is dedicated to the dynamic elasticity problem for a semi-strip. The semi-strip is loaded by the dynamic load at the center of its short edge. The conditions of fixing are given on the lateral sides of the semi-strip. The initial problem is reduced to one-dimensional problem with the help of Laplace's and Fourier's integral transforms. The one-dimensional boundary problem is formulated as the vector boundary problem in the transform's domain. Its solution is constructed as the superposition of the general solution for the homogeneous vector equation and the partial solution for the inhomogeneous vector equation. The matrix differential calculation is used for the deriving of the general solution. The partial solution is constructed with the help of Green's matrix-function, which is searched as the bilinear expansion. The case of steady-state oscillations is considered. The problem is reduced to the solving of the singular integral equation. The orthogonalization method is applied for the calculations. The stress state of the semi-strip is investigated for the different values of the frequency.

  • Asynchronous phenomenon occurs on the synchronous generators under power system when a generator's amplitude of electromagnetic force, phase angle, frequency and waveform etc become different from those of other synchronous generators which can follow instantly varying speed of turbine. Because the amplitude of electromagnetic force, phase frequency and waveform differ from those of other generators with which are to be put into parallel operation due to the change of excitation condition for load sharing and the sharing load change, if reactive current in the internal circuit circulates among generators, the efficiency varies and the stator winding of generators are overheated by resistance loss. When calculation method of protection settings and logic for protection of generator asynchronization will be recommended, a distance relay scheme is commonly used for backup protection. This scheme, called a step distance protection, is comprised of 3 steps for graded zones having different operating time. As for the conventional step distance protection scheme, zone 2 can exceed the ordinary coverage excessively in case of a transformer protection relay especially. In this case, there can be overlapped protection area from a backup protection relay and, therefore, malfunctions can occur when any fault occurs in the overlapped protection area. Distance relays and overcurrent relays are used for backup protection generally, and both relays have normally this problem, the maloperation, caused by a fault in the overlapped protection area. Corresponding to an IEEE standard, this problem can be solved with the modification of the operating time. On the other hand, in Korea, zones are modified to cope with this problem in some specific conditions. These two methods may not be obvious to handle this problem correctly because these methods, modifying the common rules, can cause another coordination problem. To overcome asynchronizing protection, this paper describes an improved backup protection coordination scheme using a new logic that will be suggested.

  • This research examined influence of job stress and drinking subculture on the drinking of white collar employees. The results are as follows: First, there are a higher percentage of population among white collar employees who hold drinking problems in terms of frequency of drinking, amount of drinking, frequency of binge drinking comparing with general populace. The results of research revealed that drinking problems of white collar employees is quite close to dangerous level. Second, job stress didn't display a consistent relationship with drinking and drinking problem, however, drinking subculture revealed that it was related with drinking and drinking problem exhibiting significant influence. And, the results of research didn't support tension reduction hypothesis, and it was identified that social learning theory is main factor that will explain drinking and drinking problem of white collar employees. Therefore, researcher suggested as follow; First, practitioners and researchers exert their efforts for studying about drinking in the relationship to white collar employees. They should also have more interests in the topic from a practical perspective. Second, suggest that EAPs be introduced in order to prevent white collar employees from drinking problem and to promote increase of entire welfare. Third, suggest that succeeding research endeavors be required, which shall embrace all of white & blue collar employees.

  • As in the other fields of mechanics, analytical methods represent an important analysis tool in marine hydrodynamics. The analytical approach is interesting for different reasons : it gives reference results for numerical codes verification, it gives physical insight into some complicated problems, it can be used as a simplified predesign tool, etc. This approach is of course limited to some simplified geometries (cylinders, spheres, ...), and only the case of one or more cylinders, truncated or not, will be considered here. Presented methods are basically eigenfunction expansions whose complexity depends on the boundary conditions. The hydrodynamic boundary value problem (BVP) is formulated within the usual assumptions of potential flow and is additionally simplified by the perturbation method. By using this approach, the highly nonlinear problem decomposes into its linear part and the higher order (second, third, ...) corrections. Also, periodicity is assumed so that the time dependence can be factorized i.e. the frequency domain formulation is adopted. As far as free surface flows are concerned, only cases without or with small forward speed are sufficiently simple to be solved semi-analytically. The problem of the floating body advancing in waves with arbitrary forward speed is far more complicated. These remarks are also valid for the general numerical methods where the case of arbitrary forward speed, even linearized, is still too difficult from numerical point of view, and "it is fair to say that there exists at present no general practical numerical method for the wave resistance problem" [9], and even less for the general seakeeping problem. We note also that, in the case of bluff bodies like cylinders, the assumptions of the potential flow are justified only if the forward speed is less than the product of wave amplitude with wave frequency.

  • The Parallel Model Compensation Using Frequency-variant: FV-PMC for noise-robust speech recognition is a method to classify the noises, which are expected to be intermixed with input speech when recognized, into several groups of noises by setting average frequency variant as a threshold value; and to recognize the noises depending on the classified groups. This demonstrates the excellent performance considering noisy speech categorized as good using the standard threshold value. However, it also holds a problem to decrease the average speech recognition rate with regard to unclassified noisy speech, for it conducts the process of speech recognition, combined with noiseless model as in the existing PMC. To solve this problem, this paper suggests a enhanced method of recognition to prevent the unclassified through improving the extent of rating scales with use of maximum likelihood so that the noise groups, including input noisy speech, can be classified into more specific groups, which leads to improvement of the recognition rate. The findings from recognition experiments using Aurora 2.0 database showed the improved results compared with those from the method of the previous FV-PMC.
