The effects of occupational stress on oral health impact profile (OHIP) in local government workers (지방공무원의 직무스트레스가 구강건강 삶의 질에 미치는 영향)

  • Objectives : This study looked at the relationship between occupational stress and the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP), to evaluate the effect of occupational stress-related factors. Methods : Data was obtained from a cross-sectional survey of 260 local officials in Gangwondo. The research comprised three questions relating to subjective oral symptoms, an occupational stress measurement tool and an oral health impact factor which was composed of questions. The data was analysed using t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation and path analysis in Amos. Results : Occupational stress had a positive correlation to drinking frequency, Oral symptoms had a negative correlation. And drinking frequency, smoking amount and occupational stress had a positive correlation to oral symptoms. It denoted that drinking frequency, occupational stress and oral symptoms had a negative correlation to OHIP. The path model had an excellent goodness of fit (p=0.07, namely p>0.05). Five 'goodness-of-fit indices' of the model were all above 0.9: GFI=0.987, AGFI=0.952, NFI=0.902, IFI=0.939, CFI=0.934), and its RMSEA was 0.045. Occupational stress and oral symptoms had a firsthand impact on OHIP. In addition, it affected OHIP through the parameters of oral symptoms. Occupational stress exercised a firsthand influence on drinking frequency, drinking frequency exercised a firsthand influence on smoking amount. Smoking amount had a firsthand impact on oral symptoms. Conclusions: Oral health education programs for the development of an improved oral hygiene environment through reduction in drinking and smoking also need to focus on relieving stress by improving workplace culture. In addition, due to good communication is required to reduce occupational stress caused by interpersonal conflict.

Relationship between dental caries and oral health behavior in middle and high school students: The Ninth(2013) Korean Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey (중·고생의 치아우식증과 구강건강행태와의 관련성 연구: 제9차(2013년) 청소년 건강행태 온라인 조사)

  • Objectives: The purpose of the study is to investigate the relationship between dental caries and oral health behaviors in middle and high school students by web-based survey of the ninth(2013) Korean youth risk behavior. Methods: The subjects were 75,149 students from 400 middle schools and 400 high schools. Finally, the survey participation rate was 96.4%(72,435 students from 799 schools) by complex sample design. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics of the subjects, oral health behaviors, and oral health status. General characteristics included gender, types of schools, economic condition, and residential types. Oral health behaviors included subjective oral health condition, frequency of tooth brushing, tooth brushing after meal within recent 7 days, sealant within 12 months, fluoride application within 12 months, scaling within 12 months, and oral health education experience within 12 months. Oral health condition included dental caries incidence within 12 months. Results: Oral health behavior influenced on dental caries in the middle and high school students in Korea. This study showed the relationship between the sociodemographic characteristics, tooth brushing frequency, sealant experience, dental caries and halitosis experience, and scaling within 12 months. Scaling is the best prevention method for dental caries and halitosis in the students. Conclusions: The study showed the necessity for practical oral health education and the effect of fluoride application for dental caries prevention.

Influential Factors to the Oral Hygiene Behavior and Perceived Oral Health Status of the Elderly (노인의 주관적 구강건강상태 및 구강보건행태에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide a set of fundamental data for the oral hygiene education for the elderly as a result of the survey on the oral hygiene and subjective oral health of the elderly in an aged society. For this purpose, 269 elders who dwelled in Gyeongsangbuk-do region were randomly selected in an arbitrary selection process, followed by a survey on their oral hygiene and health. The collected data were coded and processed by using SPSS 15.0 software. As for the analysis of the data, the general characteristics and the basic items concerning the management of the oral health were analyzed for their frequency and percentages, while the general characteristics and the awareness on the oral health were processed with Chi-square validation to show a set of results as follows; Firstly, among the items on the oral health, the satisfaction on the current condition of their oral health was below average. Secondly, concerning the oral hygienic behaviors, the majority of the samples answered that they were brushing their teeth twice a day. And, as for the brushing methods, the largest number of the samples answered that they were brushing their teeth in a 'horizontal direction'. Thirdly, they reported they were having difficulties in getting dental treatments. The implications of this study are that it is necessary to provide sound oral health education to them to correct the inappropriate oral hygienic behaviors.

  • Objectives: This study identified the many factors affecting the quality of life relating to oral health using oral impact on daily performances(OIDP) in college students according to gender. Methods: The subjects were college students who agree to participate in research Cheonan, Daegu, Ulsan. 314 college students were fill out the questionnaire themselves. Results were analyzed by using frequency, t-test, ANOVA, correlation Analysis and regression analysis of SPSS program ver. 21.0. Results: Oral impact on daily performances(OIDP) of influence Factors is as follows: The male is nicotine dependence, toothache and female is subjective oral health status, grade. Male have a positive effect on the quality of life relating to oral health when lower the nicotine dependence. Meanwhile, female have a positive effect on the quality of life relating to oral health when better the subjective oral health status and lower the grade. Both male and female have a positive effect on the quality of life relating to oral health when no more toothache. Conclusions: In this study, there was a difference in the factors affecting the quality of life relating to oral health according to gender. Therefore, oral health care measures should be a difference according to gender. Male's oral health promotion programs should be considered in conjunction with non-smoking education. For female, the age should be considered when developing an oral health promotion program.

Carbonated beverage consumption of dental hygiene students (치위생과 학생의 탄산음료 섭취실태에 관한 연구)

  • Objectives: The purpose of the study was to investigate the carbonated beverage consumption and related factors of dental hygiene students in Gwangju Jeonnam. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 343 dental hygiene students in the Gwangju Jeonnam area from May 17, 2017 to June 1 based on convenience sampling. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics of the subjects, the frequency of carbonated beverage intake, its degree of impact on oral health, oral care behavior following the intake of carbonated beverages, and the method of intake. Results:There were 293 people (85.4%) who drink carbonated beverages. The intake frequency was an average of 3.9 times a week, and the most frequently consumed beverage was cola with an average of 1.8 times a week. The intake frequency of carbonated beverage was correlated with a higher share of the cost of the beverage in the subject's monthly allowance, a lower intention of ceasing intake of carbonated beverage henceforth, and a lower grade. Conclusions: It is necessary to raise awareness on carbonated beverages through nutrition education concerning beverages including the harmful effects of carbonated beverages and reinforcement of oral health education in regular education courses. In addition, it is considered necessary to refrain from the consumption carbonated beverages by oneself as a preliminary dental hygienist.

Awareness and educational needs on preventive dental treatment among oral health workers (구강보건인력의 예방치과진료에 대한 인식 및 교육요구도)

  • Objectives: The objective of this study is to provide basic data needed in developing an educational program designed to upgrade capacity and awareness of preventive dental treatment among oral health workers, by analyzing levels of awareness of preventive dental treatment and educational needs among dentists and dental hygienists. Methods: The collected data was analyzed with SPSS program ver. 19.0. The data was under t-test. Results: The frequency level of giving preventive dental treatment to patients among dentists and dental hygienists is below mid-point, 3 on the 5-point Likert scale. In terms of frequency level per item, scaling & polishing was ranked the highest, followed by periodontal maintenance, tooth-brushing instruction, and prescription and instruction of oral care product in descending order. On the questions asking how important preventive dental care they perceive to be, both dentists and dental hygienists perceived it to be highly important. When they were asked to rank those items by the importance of education, they considered periodontal maintenance as the most important one, followed by individual education of oral health, incremental oral health care, scaling& polishing, toothbrushing instruction, and prescription and instruction of oral care product. Respondents pointed out problems in running a preventive dental treatment program as follows: overwork, lack of dedicated workforce, un-fixed costs, and lack of necessary equipment. When they were asked to point out items needed to run such a program, the largest number of respondents indicated dedicated workforce placement, followed by improving awareness of the customer, and improving awareness of the dental workers. Conclusions: In order to effectively run a preventive dental treatment program, it is necessary for oral health workers to clearly understand the concept of it. It is also necessary to develop and operate an education program on preventive dental treatment targeting oral health professionals.

A survey on the current status and the opinion of professional oral health care for oral cancer patients (구강암 환자의 전문가 구강건강관리 수행현황 및 견해조사)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to identify the status and opinions of professional oral health care performance in oral cancer patients. Methods: Seven National University Dental Hospitals and the National Cancer Center in Korea surveyed the medical personnel in charge of oral health care for oral cancer patients. The questionnaire consisted of 16 questions, including the status of expert oral health care education and performance for oral cancer patients, etc. A total of 47 questionnaires were retrieved, and the collected data were used in PASW Statistics 23.0 to perform frequency analysis, cross-analysis, and kruskal Wallis tests. Results: A survey of oral health care education found that 29.8% of the medical personnel had received education. The most performed of professional oral health care was found that applying fluoride by dental hygienist, treating stomatitis by dentist, and wiping mouths with sponge by nurse. The assessment of self-performance has shown that applying fluoride by dental hygienists has a statistically significant difference. Only 37.8% of oral health care education for patients was conducted. Most recognized that oral health care in oral cancer patients was important, but it is difficult to provide care due to lack of performance personnel and time, opportunities for performance personnel to be educated. The improvement was found to require an increase in the number of performance personnel, placement of professionals, and practical training to enhance performance capabilities. Conclusions: For oral health care of oral cancer patients, continuous education for medical personnel, establishment of oral health care manual and medical system, research on oral health care of oral cancer patients and public relations campaign will have to be activated. Development of expert care manual analysis and evaluation tools for oral health care in oral cancer patients in the future and development of standardized curriculum will be necessary.

  • Objectives : Children who are users of local children's centers are mostly in the lower income brackets or raised by single parents or grandparents. Their parents are usually careless about them, or they are placed in tough environments. Specifically, they are unlikely to be taught at home to brush their teeth on a regular basis. The purpose of this study was to examine the oral health education experiences of teachers at local children's centers and the reality of oral health care provided by them to children, and to pave the way for the development of collaborative oral health education programs by local children's centers and local communities. Methods : The subjects in this study were teachers who worked at 158 local children's centers located in Gyeongnam Province. Each teacher was asked to fill out the given a questionnaire at the centers. The survey was conducted by phone or in person from February 26 to April 1, 2009. The collected data were analyzed with SPSS 15.0 program, and statistical data on frequency and percentage were acquired to find out the general characteristics of the teachers. And crosstabulation was utilized to look for connections between oral health education experiences and actual oral health care. Results : At the 158 local children's centers, 21 teachers had ever learned about oral health education to provide children with that, and 137 teachers hadn't. The local children's centers that the former worked for had more interest in dental caries, and those centers had children do toothbrushing more than the other centers at which the latter served. Conclusions : It seems that local children's centers and local communities should make concerted efforts to develop joint education programs.

A study incremental dental care programs of appraisal report for oral health education elementary school in Ulsan City (울산시 구강보건교육 시범초등학교의 계속구강건강관리사업)

  • This purpose of this study was to provide the basic data for preventing dental caries, and maintaining and enhancing Oral health education. The subject of this study through the survey of the recognition of Oral health education, a questionnaire survey and dental experience and Pit and fissure sealant status was conducted for 334 male and female students who were in the 4th, 5th, 6th grade of elementary school in Ulsan city. Statistical analysis was conducted using the SPSS 11.5 with t-test, ANOVA and correlation. The obtained results were as follows 1. Experience caries on permanent teeth was male score of 58.0% and female score of 42.0% and an everage score of 52.7% very low. 2. The students who were in the 4th, 5th, 6th grade of elementary school Experience caries on permanent teeth is grad higher(p=0.000). Pit and fissure sealant of teeth number and teeth surface status by grad higher(pE0.016, p=0.000). 3. Oral health knowledge and behavior is significantly related to status(p=0.001), behavior and Daily tooth brushing frequency was significantly related to status(p=0.000). But experience caries on permanent teeth and Oral health knowledge and behavior beween wasn't significantly related to status.

  • Objectives: This study attempted to identify the eating habits and oral health behaviors of Korean teenagers, studying their relationship with oral health status. The findings serve as fundamental data to enhance proper eating habits and oral health-related projects, ultimately improving teenagers' oral health. Methods: It was analyzed through the original data of the 16th (2020) online survey of youth health behavior in Korea, Frequency analysis, complex sample cross-analysis, complex sample logistic regression analysis were conducted using the SPSSwin 21.0 program. Results: As a result of the study, was associated with the consumption of all sweet drinks, fast food intake, and the frequency of daily brushing over the past 7 days Teeth pain is noted with the consumption of soda, sweet drinks, fast food, and the frequency of daily brushing over the past 7 days. Gum bleeding is noted with the consumption of sweetened products, fast food intake, and the frequency of daily brushing over the past 7 days. Conclusions: Eating habits and oral health behaviors should be considered for the oral health management of middle and high school students. Specific measures should be sought to provide proper dietary education and systematic oral health education to improve the oral health of middle and high school students.
