In this paper the uplink single carrier scheme is proposed for wireless Internet application and its performance is evaluated in terms of PAPR (peak to average power ratio) and ABR (achievable bit rate) compared with the uplink OFDM scheme. There exist constraints regarding the signal amplification because the non-linear amplifier should be exploited instead of the linear amplifier due to its high cost of linear amplifier and power inefficiency at the WiBro terminal. Therefore characteristics in the uplink scheme design are discussed in order to maximize ABR and relieve the requirements for the amplifier specifications.

Laminated composite structures find wide range of applications in many branches of technology. They are much suited for weight sensitive structures (like aircraft) where thinner and lighter members made of advanced fiber reinforced composite materials are used. The orientations of fiber direction in layers and number of layers and the thickness of the layers as well as material of composites play a major role in determining the strength and stiffness. Thus the basic design problem is to determine the optimum stacking sequence in terms of laminate thickness, material and fiber orientation. In this paper, a new optimization technique called Cellular Automata (CA) has been combined with Genetic Algorithm (GA) to develop a different search and optimization algorithm, known as Cellular Genetic Algorithm (CGA), which considers the laminate thickness, angle of fiber orientation and the fiber material as discrete variables. This CGA has been successfully applied to obtain the optimal fiber orientation, thickness and material lay-up for multi-layered composite hybrid beams plates and shells subjected to static buckling and dynamic constraints.

This paper proposes an efficient and low complexity power-loading algorithm for MIMO-OFDM downlink based cognitive radio system that maximizes the sum rate of single secondary user (SU) under constraints on the tolerable interference thresholds between secondary user and primary user's frequency bands and the total transmission power. Our suboptimal algorithm is based on the $2^{nd}$ order interference tracking and nulling mechanism to allocate transmission power of the subcarriers among SU's scheme. The performance of our proposed suboptimal scheme is compared with the performance of the classical power loading algorithms, e.g., water filling, $1^{st}$ order interference tracking, nulling, and other suboptimal schemes. Numerical results show that our algorithm has low complexity but obtains a higher channel capacity than that of some previous suboptimal algorithms in some scenarios. We dedicate also that for a given interference threshold, the $2^{nd}$ order interference tracking mechanism has dynamic number of nulling position instead fixed number of nulling position.

This paper deals with free vibrations of the tapered Timoshenko beam with constant volume, in which both the rotatory inertia and shear deformation are included. The cross section of the tapered beam is chosen as the regular polygon cross section whose depth is varied with the parabolic function. The ordinary differential equations governing free vibrations of such beam are derived based on the Timoshenko beam theory by decomposing the displacements. Governing equations are solved for determining the natural frequencies corresponding with their mode shapes. In the numerical examples, three end constraints of the hinged-hinged, hinged-clamped and clamped-clamped ends are considered. The effects of various beam parameters on natural frequencies are extensively discussed. The mode shapes of both the deflections and stress resultants are presented, in which the composing rates due to bending rotation and shear deformation are determined.
We need to consider a number of technical constraints to build new warehouses. In particular, it is essential to assure that the flow of trucks is smooth and seamless even in large size warehouses. The flow of trucks in warehouses are subject to, for instance, the routes of trucks, the frequency and the time stamps of their in-and-out's. Also, the routes of trucks interfere each other. Thus, finding good flow of trucks in a warehouse is a tough task when all interferences among trucks are considered. In this paper, we find some layouts of the routes of trucks exhibiting good performance based on simulation. we use ARENA ver. 11 for simulation.

We propose a spatially adaptive image interpolation algorithm, which can restore high frequency details in the original high resolution image. In order to apply the regularization approach to the interpolation procedure, we first present a two-dimensional separable image degradation model for a low resolution imaging system. According to the model, we propose a regularized spatially adaptive interpolation algorithm by using five different constraints. We also analyze convergence of the proposed algorithm, and provide some experimental results to compare the proposed algorithm with its nonadaptive version.
In this paper, we investigate the method for reducing the amount of feedback in multi-user downlink orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) systems. The objective is to maximize the total throughput of the system under the constraints of transmit power. In previous methods, each user in a cell transmits channel quality information (CQI) of its all sub-bands to the base station, which requires extremely high feedback overhead. Thus, we propose an efficient sub-band allocation algorithm in which each user transmits partial CQI and one additional information to reduce the amount of feedback. Simulation results show that we can greatly reduce the amount of feedback than full feedback system.

A design problem is studied for a nonuniform transmission line (NUTL) section to be inserted between an arbitrary source impedance and an arbitary load impedance for the purpose of impedance matching or providing a minimum input reflection coefficient over a frequency ranee as wide as possible. A special class of NUTL's, yet comprehensive enough to include almost all smoothly varying lines, are considered. Power series expansions of the ABCD parameters of such lines are used in the calculation of the input reflection coefficient. The design problem is formulated as a nonlinear programming problem withnonlinear constraints and is solved by a combined use of the sequential unconstrained minimization technique and tile Fletcher-Powell method. As a result, a line section was obtained which shows a marked improvement over any one hitherto published as a wide-band impedance matching device.

Spectrum sensing, as a fundamental functionality of Cognitive Radio (CR), enables Secondary Users (SUs) to monitor the spectrum and detect spectrum holes that could be used. Recently, the security issues of Cognitive Radio Networks (CRNs) have attracted increasing research attention. As one of the attacks against CRNs, a Primary User Emulation (PUE) attack compromises the spectrum sensing of CR, where an attacker monopolizes the spectrum holes by impersonating the Primary User (PU) to prevent SUs from accessing the idle frequency bands. Energy detection is often used to sense the spectrum in CRNs, but the presence of PUE attack has not been considered. This study examined the effect of PUE attack on the performance of energy detection-based spectrum sensing technique. In the proposed protocol, the stationary helper nodes (HNs) are deployed in multiple stages and distributed over the coverage area of the PUs to deliver spectrum status information to the next stage of HNs and to SUs. On the other hand, the first stage of HNs is also responsible for inferring the existence of the PU based on the energy detection technique. In addition, this system provides the detection threshold under the constraints imposed on the probabilities of a miss detection and false alarm.

Since soil structure interactions are one of the most important subjects in the structural/foundation engineering, much study concerning the soil structure interactions had been carried out. One of typical structures related to the soil structure interactions is the strip foundation which is basically defined as the beam or strip rested on or supported by the soils. At the present time, lack of studies on dynamic problems related to the strip foundations is still found in the literature. From these viewpoint this paper aims to theoretically investigate dynamics of the parabolic strip foundations and also to present the practical engineering data for the design purpose. Differential equations governing the free, out o plane vibrations of such strip foundations are derived, in which effects of the rotatory and torsional inertias and also shear deformation are included although the warping of the cross-section is excluded. Governing differential equations subjected to the boundary conditions of free-free end constraints are numerically solved for obtaining the natural frequencies and mode shapes by using the numerical integration technique and the numerical method of nonlinear equation.
