Design of Wideband Microwave Absorbers Using Reactive Salisbury Screens with Maximum Flat Reflection

  • This paper presents a design methodology for wideband single-layered microwave absorbers with arbitrary absorption at the design center frequency using reactive Salisbury screens. The bandwidth of the absorber increases when the flatness of the reflection response at the design center frequency is maximized. Based on this observation, closed-form design formulas for wideband absorbers are derived. As they are scalable to any design frequency, wideband reactive screens can be systematically realized using two-dimensional periodic crossed-dipole structures patterned on a resistive sheet. Based on this method, a single-layered absorber with a 90% bandwidth improved to 124% of the design center frequency is presented. For the purpose of physical demonstration, an absorber with a design center frequency of 10 GHz is designed and fabricated using a silver nanowire resistive film with a surface resistance of 30 Ω/square. The measured absorption shows a good agreement with both the calculation and the electromagnetic simulation.

  • In this paper, a new method to reduce the size of ROM in the direct digital frequency synthesizer (DDFS) is proposed. In the case that ROM is used for sinusoidal value calculation, reducing the size of ROM is significant. So the power consumption is affected mostly by its bit width. In the proposed method, the ROM bit width is reduced by 1 bit using the phase subtraction and the approximation. The spurious level is better than 80㏈c and the power consumption estimated is 510㎼/MHz.

  • As laser pulse width becomes shortened from nanoseconds to femtoseconds, the effects caused by the dispersions of nonlinear optical mediums, such as group velocity mismatch and group velocity dispersion become considerably significant. The group velocity mismatch and group velocity dispersion are the major factors that lead to a decrease of frequency conversion efficiency and pulse spreading for picosecond and femtosecond pulses.   • As government's policy is enacted to reduce greenhouse gas emission in transportation sector, railroad sector has to estimate amount of emission and propose feasible methods to reduce emission. To calculate accurate emission of railroad sector, we performed a study on the calculation model development for Tier 3 GHG emission factors. According to IPCC guide line, Tier 3 emission factor reflects individual characteristic of diesel locomotive. For this reason, we estimated GHG emission factor by stratified diesel locomotive and the result show difference of emission factor by notch changing. Therefore, the analysis of notch frequency during operation is required to develop Tier 3 emission factor, and we analysed a running pattern of diesel locomotive. As a result, idle and 8 notch consist about 70% of total running distance. In conclusion, the calculation model suppose that Tier 3 GHG emission factor is the sum of multiplied emission factor by weights in each notch. This result can contribute to Tier 3 emission factor calculation and reduction method development of emission in railroad sector by managing driving efficiency and technology development.

  • This paper is the first of two companion papers concerning the analysis and design of a pneumatic vibration isolation system. The design optimization of the pneumatic vibration isolation system is required for the reduction of cost, endeavor and time, and it needs modeling and calculation algorithm. The nonlinear models are devised from the fluid mechanical expression for components of the system and the calculation algorithm is derived from the mathematical relationship between the models. It is shown that the orifice makes the nonlinear property of the transmissibility curve that the resonant frequency changes by the amplitude of excited vibration. Linearization of the nonlinear models is tried to reduce elapsed time and truncation error accumulation and to enable the transmissibility calculation of the system with multi damping chambers. The equivalent mechanical models generated by linearization clarify the function of each component of the system and lead to the linearized transfer function that can give forth to the transmissibility exactly close to that of nonlinear models. The modified successive under-relaxation method is developed to calculate the linearized transfer function.

추파중에서 항행하는 선박의 복원성능에 관한 연구 (A Study on Transverse Stability of Ships in Following Seas)

  • 본 연구에서는 추파중에 항행하는 선박의 전복현상과 관련된 횡복원성 문제를 다루었다. 추파중에서 항행하는 선박의 복원력 변동량을 이론적으로 규명하기 위해서 Froude-Krylov 가설과 파랑중에서의 정적 평형조건 등을 이용한 이론계산법을 정식화하였다. 그리고 본 이론계산법에 따라서 고속화물선 선형과 어선 선형에 대해서 복원력 변동량을 계산하였으며, 동일한 파랑조건하에서 실시된 Hamamoto의 모형실험 결과와 비교하였다. 상기 이론계산 결과 및 모형실험 결과로부터 추파의 파정에서 선체중심이 위치하였을 때 복원력이 평수중에 비해서 절반이하로 감소되며, 이때 전복의 위험이 있다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

  • The development of the frequency converter using semiconductor enables to easily control the speed of A.C. motors. It is now technically possible and economically feasible to provide them with power at variable frequency, using silicon-controlled-rectifier (or thyristor) inverters. In such a case, if an induction motor is to be operated efficiently over a wide speed range, it must be supplied from a variable-frequency source whose frequency is adjustable over a range similar to that required for the motor speed. It is desired to observe how several characteristics are changed such as primary current, torque-speed, etc. Although the characteristics could be obtained by means of the conventional method, it requires very complicated calculation. It is assumed that the charateristics above are easily investigated by means of current diagram method from variable circuit constants relating to the motor which is designed in rated frequency. In this paper, the results of the study on the current-diagram method and its application are described as follows; (1) In order to discuss the construction of current diagram, the equation of the stator current with adjustable frequency was derived for applying the Current Diagram Method. (2) The radius, the center of the current circle and current vector locus at any desired frequency could be easily determined with the aid of both above mentioned equation and the standard current diagram at reference frequency. (3) This method could be applicable to the various types of Induction Motors, and this paper has dealt with its application to the capacitor, split-phase and 2-phase types of motors.

염소・불화수소 탱크로리 누출사고 시 이격거리 산정을 위한 산정표 및 산정식 개발 연구 (A Study on the Development of Calculation Tables and Formulas for Determining Separation Distance in Case of Cl2・HF Tank-lorry Leakage)

  • 운송차량에 의한 화학사고는 매년 전체 화학사고의 20 %를 차지하지만 영향평가 정보를 알 수 없는 상황이 반복되어 사고대응 과정에서 어려움을 겪게 되는 문제점이 존재한다. 본 연구에서는 국내 사용량이 많고 사고 위험성이 높으며, 최근 7년간 사고 빈도가 높은 염소와 불화수소를 대상으로 탱크로리로 운반하는 과정에서 누출사고가 발생하였을 경우 현장에서 이격거리 산정을 위하여 활용될 수 있는 피해예측범위 산정표 및 산정식을 개발하였다. 화학물질의 누출속도와 기상조건 중 풍속, 온도에 따른 산정표를 조사하였으며, 산정표를 적용하기 힘든 특수한 상황에서는 산정식을 적용할 수 있도록 통계 프로그램 R을 사용하여 산정식을 도출하였다. 유관기관에서는 현장에서 연구에서 도출된 산정표 및 산정식을 활용하면 화학사고 피해 최소화 및 이격거리 설정, 주민대피 결정 등의 의사결정 측면에서 중요한 정보로써 사용할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

위상동기신호를 이용한 한전계통의 저주파진동 검출과 고유치해석 (Eigenvalue Analysis and Detection of Low Frequency Oscillation using PMU Data in KEPCO System)

  • This paper describes the results of a low-frequency oscillation analysis using data measured in PMU installed in the KEPCO system, and the comparison with eigenvalues computed from the linear model. The dominant oscillation modes are estimated by applying various algorithms. The algorithms are: the extended Prony method; multiple time interval parameter estimation method; subspace system identification method; and spectral analysis. From the measurement data, modes of frequency 0.68[Hz] and 0.92[Hz] were estimated, and modes of frequency 0.63[Hz] and 0.80[Hz] were computed from the eigenvalue calculation. There was a difference between the mode estimated from measurement data and that from the linear model. This is possibly because of an error in the dynamic data of the KEPCO system used in eigenvalue calculation. Because wide area modes exist in the KEPCO system, these modes should be monitored continuously for the reliable operation of the system. In order to prevent total blackouts caused by wide area oscillation, moreover, contingency analysis should be performed in relation to this mode and appropriate measures should be established.
