CFRD 표면 차수벽 콘크리트의 내구성 향상에 관한 실험 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Improvement of Durability for Face Slab Concrete in CFRD)

  • Dam concrete for pumped storage power plants should have sufficient durability in repetitive wet and dry conditions and abrasion due to water level fluctuation and also in freezing and thawing resistance as well as permeability capacity. This study presents various experimental results to enhance the durability of face slab concrete in CFRD(concrete faced rockfill dam) by varying the fly ash substitution such as 0%, 15%, 20% and 25% and polypropylene such as 0%, 0.1%. The effect on durability of concrete corresponding to the increasing amount of fly ash and polypropylene was evaluated and the optimum quantity of fly ash and polypropylene substitution was recommended. The results show that 20% of fly ash substitution and 0% of polypropylene were found out to be an optimum quantity to achieve excellent performances in durability for face slab concrete in CFRD.

  • Concrete structures in the marine environment often deteriorate in the early stage of their service life because of contact with various aggressive conditions. In recent years, the study on the concrete in the marine environment are carried out to increase their service life. In this experimental study, the concrete specimens were prepared with various adding contents of inorganic antifouling agent$(0\~3.0wt\%)$ composed to some fluosilicate solution. For evaluatin of the physical and chemical properties of concretes containing inorganic antifouling agent, various tests such as setting time, slump loss, compressive strength, water absorption rate, freezing and thawing resistance and SEM micrographs of concrete, were conducted. As the results, physical and chemical properties of concretes were improved with an adding of inorganic antifouling agent. From the results of various tests, the optimal adding contents of antifouling agent was $1.0wt\%$.

  • In this study, lightweight aggregates were developed to see the possible application as a structural uses. For the evaluation purpose, several testings were conducted to compare the physical characteristics between the controlled lightweight aggregates and other lightweight aggregates purchased from different sources. The tests included property changes of fresh concrete and strength characteristics of hardened concrete for both normal and high strength ranges. In addition, a experiment was performed to analyze the freezing and thawing resistance of new lightweight aggregate concrete against other lightweight aggregate concrete against other lightweight aggregate concretes with some experimental parameters such as lightweight aggregates, curing conditions, and water-cement ratio. The test showed that the new lightweight aggregate could be used structural components. Continuous study will be planned for future evaluations.

  • The purpose of installation of the brine heating system for LNG storage tank is the prevention of ground freezing. If the ground of LNG tank areas is frozen, it is caused by safety problems. The design of brine heating system for LNG storage tank which is constructing in our country is not well considered about domestic weather conditions and economical efficiency. Therefore, this paper reports on the study of the optimized temperature of inside pipes and cooling process through the transient analysis by using the existing brine heating system.

  • Cellulose fiber reinforced cement composites manufactured by the slurry-dewatering process have found broad applications in thin cement products as replacement for asbestos cement. This paper focuses on the durability characteristics of these composites under different aging conditions. The effects of wetting-drying and freezing-thaw cycles, carbonation, and exposure to hot and humid environments on the structure and properties of cellulose fiber-cement composites were investigated. The predominant mechanisms of aging in the composites were identified through investigation of structure-property relationships. Measures to control these aging mechanisms were diversed and evaluated. Refined cellulose fiber-cement composites are shown to possess excellent durability characteristics under the effects of various aging processes.

  • At present, reinforced concrete pipe has been widely used as drain pipe. However, many reinforced concrete pipe is exposed at deteriorated environment by the growth of a sulfur-oxidizing bacterium isolated from corroded concrete. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of lining by polymer-modified mortar on the development in durability of reinforced concrete pipe. Polymer-modified mortars ate prepared with various polymer typer as cement modifier and polymer-cement ratio and rested for compressive and flexural strengths, adhesion in tension, acid resistance test, freezing and thawing test, and lining test of product in the field. From the rest results, it is apparent that polymer-modified mortars have good mechanical properties and durability as lining material. In practice, all polymers can be used as lining materials for reinforced concrete pip, and type of polymer, and polymer-cement ratio and curing conditions are controlled for good lining product.

  • This study presents the laboratory properties on the frost heave under various moisture contents and compaction efforts in pavement subgrade soil. Many researches were conducted on the frost heave. However, the researches with the domestic soils have not been so active until now. In particular, the evaluation of the frost heave in pavement subgrade soils was not established by many researchers. The problems relating with the frost heave have been serious causes in the distresses of pavements. The study was performed using an appropriate field simulation. The research results revealed that the drainage conditions in earth work should be treated cautiously.

Recent Advances in Cold-Start and Drive Capability of Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle

  • The sub-zero cold is a major environmental consideration for the operational readiness of FCEVs because fuel cells produce water and utilize wet air with varying water content to generate electricity. Typical fuel cells thus have a fatal flaw in freezing conditions at startup. This drawback becomes more serious with the outsourced fuel cell that is entirely water-based for its internal humidification. In this background, the HMC's self-designed fuel cell was developed as an alternative and was employed in the Tucson-based FCEV in 2006 demonstrating its good cold-startup characteristics. The cold-startup capacity of the vehicle was validated through tests in the cold chamber and on the road, resulting in 50% stack power achieved in 250 seconds at $-15^{\circ}C$.

유동과 냉각수 이용 제빙관의 동결조건에 5관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on the Freezing Conditions in a Ice-making Tube Using Flowing Subcooled Water)

  • 본 연구에서는 유동과 냉각수를 이용하는 아이슬러리 제조관정을 관찰하고, 이 시스템의 가장 큰 문제점인 관내동결 특성을 파악하였다. 시험수로는 수도수(city water)를 이용하였다. 시스템을 순환하는 시험수가 제빙관내에서 $0^{\circ}C$ 이하의 과냉각 조건이 형성되어 제빙관을 빠져 나오면서 축냉조에 설치된 충격판상에서 과냉각 해소가 일어났다. 이때 유동과냉각수는 내부에너지를 방출하면서 그 일부가 얼음 입자로 상변화되었고, 나머지는 실험장치를 계속순환하였다. 제빙관에서 시험수와 브라인의 열교환 방식을 대향류와 평행류 두 조건에서 시험수의 과냉각도는 Reynolds 수가 증가함에 따라 감소하는 경향을 보였고, 이들 결과 값으로부터 각각의 관계식을 유도하였다. 또한 브라인의 냉각속도가 0.29~0.53[$^{\circ}C$/min] 범위에서 시험수의 과냉각도는 브라인 냉각속도에 종속되지 않았다.
