  • Free vibration characteristics of a curved pipe conveying fluid is studied when the pipe is clamped at both ends. Using the perturbation method, the non-linear governing equations divided into two parts; the steady state non-linear equilibrium equations and the linearized equations of motion in the neighborhood of the equilibrium position. The natural frequencies are computed from the linearized equations of motion. In this study, the equilibrium positions are determined by two types of equations, i.e., (1) the non-linear equations, and (2) the equations obtained by neglecting the non-linear terms. The natural frequencies obtained from the non-linear equilibrium equations are compared to those obtained from the linearized equilibrium equations. From the results, as the fluid velocity increases, the equilibrium position should be determined from the nonlinear equations for the vibration analysis of the curved pipe conveying fluid.

  • Dynamic stability of an axially accelerating beam stucture is investigated in this paper. The equations of motion of a fixed-free beam are derived using the hybrid deformation variable method and the assumed mode method. Unstable regions due to periodical acceleration are obtained by using the Floquet's theory. Stability diagrams are presented to illustrate the influence of the dimensionless acceleration, amplitude, and frequency. Also, buckling occurs when the acceleration exceeds a certain value. It is found that relatively targe unstable regions exist around the first bending natural frequency, twice the first bending natural frequency, and twice the second bending natural frequency. The validity of the stability diagram is confirmed by direct numerical integration of the equations of motion.

  • In this paper free vibration analysis of symmetric and cross-ply elastic laminated shells based on FSDT was performed through discretization of equations of motion and boundary condition. Structural model of laminated composite cylindrical shells subjected to a combination of magnetic and thermal fields is developed via Hamilton's variational principle. These coupled equations of motion are based on the electromagnetic equations(Faraday, Ampere, Ohm, and Lorenz equations) and thermal equations which are involved in constitutive equations. Variations of dynamic characteristics of composite shells with applied magnetic field, temperature gradient, and stacking sequence are investigated and pertinent conclusions are derived.

  • In a stiffened plate reinforced on one of its sides by beam type stiffeners, the asymmetry about the plate mid-plane induces coupling between flexural wave and longitudinal wave. In this research interactions between flexural and longitudinal wave motion are analyzed in a stiffened plate which is reinforced only in one direction. The plate is modelled as a beam to which offset spring-mounted masses are attached at regular intervals. Propagation constants of the coupled waves and corresponding characteristic waves are derived by using periodic structure theory, and a computer code is developed. Also, sample calculations are carried out and the results are discussed.

  • In this paper, we have shown a new approach of neural networks for mobile robot motion control under an indoor refracted environment. The vehicle has two powered wheels and four passive casters which support a free motion. And it also uses sonar sensors, infrared sensors, Internal odometer, and contact sensors. Two experiments were conducted to demonstrate our objectives. The first one is that the vehicle executes a reflexive motor control to maintain a constant distance to the boundary. The second one is that as well as the boundary following, the vehicle makes a block obstacle avoidance during its path. Without prior knowledge of external environment. we have accomplished the tasks by employing a simple, reactive stimulus-response neural network scheme associating sensor data with the vehicle's action.

  • It has been proposed that the acceptable level of discomfort was a valid measure of postural loading. Although the number of women employees has increased at a much faster rate than men workers did and female workers are thought to be more vulnerable to musculoskeletal disorders, most previous studies dealt with perceived discomforts for joint motions focused on male subjects. This study aims to measure perceived discomfort ratings of females for static joint motions. Ten female subjects participated in the experiment measuring perceived discomforts, in which almost every possible joint motion was included and the free modulus method of the magnitude estimation was employed. The results showed that discomfort levels were dependent on the joint motions and joints, and subjective discomfort ratings of women were significantly larger than those of men.

  • Mooring is the operation of securing a ship to a wharf or quay by means of rapes or chains. A. moored ship need not necessarily be truly stationary. It may be free to rise and fall with the tick or the loading and unloading of cargo or to oscillate in response to the action of the environmental forces. In this respect a moored ship is restricted to a limited amount of movement within well-defined bounds. This study is intended to analyze the tension of mooring lines by a FEM program, as the current velocities and working directions are varied. The motion of a berthed ship is studied concerning with the wave periods and the direction. Also the behavior of the modeled vessel are investigated for a berthed condition.

  • The dynamic behavior of the rectangular liquid storage structure is known to be greatly influenced by fluid-structure interaction. By mounting the liquid storage structure on the properly designed base isolators, dynamic response of the superstructure can be reduced. However, base isolators inevitably incur large displacement of the structure to the ground ·ind may give adverse effects on the sloshing height. This paper presents the analysis method for fluid-structure-isolator interaction in base-isolated rectangular liquid storage structures. In the method, the irrotational motion of invicid and incompressible ideal fluid is expressed by analytic solutions and the superstructure and isolators are properly modeled by finite element and bilinear model. Free surface sloshing motion, hydrodynamic pressure acting on the wall and structural response are obtained by the presented method.

  • In this paper, the effect of a skirt deformation on the responses of an Air Cushion Vehicle in waves is investigated. The air in the bag and plenum chamber is assumed to be compressible and to have a uniform pressure distribution in each volume. The free surface deformation is determined in the framework of a linear potential theory by replacing the cushion pressure with the pressure patch which is oscillating and translating uniformly. And the bag-finger skirt assumed to be deformed due to the pressure disturbance while its surface area remained constant. The restoring force and moment due to the deformation of bag-finger skirt from equilibrium shape is incorporated with the equations of heave and pitch motions. The numerical results of motion responses due to various ratios of the bag and cushion pressure or bag-to-finger depth ratios are shown.

  • An application of H$_{\infty}$ synthesis to contact control of a manipulator is suggested. Based on computed torque linearization of a manipulator, a target dynamics for contact motion control is defined and used as a reference model. The target dynamics relates position and force errors through free motion impedance and force error compensators. The H$_{\infty}$ control synthesis is adopted to find an optimum the compensator for position tied force control in various directions of the end-effector. The optimization is performed on the augmented criteria, which trades off the sensitivity function of the errors and the input load at the joints. A design example of the compensator is provided that meets the design specifications.s.
