This study is reported the adhesion failure in adhesive bonded composite and specifically for the T-joint structure. Three-dimensional finite element analysis has been performed using a commercial tool and the necessary outcomes are obtained via an eight noded solid element (Solid 185-element) from the library of ANSYS. The structural analysis input has been incurred through ANSYS parametric design language (APDL) code. The normal and shear stress distributions along different layers of the joint structure have been evaluated as the final outcomes. Based on the stress distributions, failure location in the composite joint structure has been identified by using the Tsai-Wu stress failure criterion. It has been found that the failure index is maximum at the interface between flange and web part of the joint (top layer) which indicates the probable location of failure initiation. This kind of failures are considered as adhesion failure and the failure propagation is governed by strain energy release rate (SERR) of fracture mechanics. The different adhesion failure lengths are also considered at the failure location to calculate the SERR values i.e. mode I fracture (opening), mode II fracture (sliding) and mode III fracture (tearing) along the failure front. Also, virtual crack closure technique (VCCT) principle of fracture mechanics steps is used to calculate the above said SERRs. It is found that the mode I SERR is more dominating compared to other two modes of failure for the joint considered. Finally, the influences of various parametric (geometrical and material) effect on SERR of the joint structure are evaluated and discussed in details.
A theoretical study was carried-out of mode II delamination fracture behavior of the End Loaded Split (ELS) functionally graded beam configuration with considering the material non-linearity. The mechanical response of ELS was modeled analytically by using a power-law stress-strain relation. It was assumed that the material is functionally graded transversally to the beam. The non-linear fracture was investigated by using the J-integral approach. Equations were derived for the crack arm curvature and zero axes coordinate that are needed for the J-integral solution. The analysis developed is valid for a delamination crack located arbitrary along the beam height. The J-integral solution was verified by analyzing the strain energy release rate with considering material non-linearity. The effects of material gradient, non-linear material behavior and crack location on the fracture were evaluated. The solution derived is suitable for parametric analyses of non-linear fracture. The results obtained can be used for optimization of functionally graded beams with respect to their mode II fracture performance. Also, such simplified analytical models contribute for the understanding of delamination fracture in functionally graded beams exhibiting material non-linearity.

It is important to choose which approaches should be used to correct the fracture if the operation is indication for surgery in patients with orbital floor fracture. Transorbital, transantral, and endonasal approaches are methods for correcting the orbital floor fracture. The approach needs to be considered the location of the fracture, the degree, the severity of the fracture, the least remaining patient's disability, and preference of the surgeon. We report a case of orbital floor fracture using transorbital approach and endonasal catheter ballooning to resolve the limitations of transorbital approach alone.
Monotonic four-point bending tests were conducted on straight pipe specimens, 102 mm in diameter with local wall thinning, in order to investigate the effects of the depth, shape, and location of wall thinning on the deformation and failure behavior of pipes. The local wall thinning simulated natural erosion/corrosion metal loss. The deformation and fracture behavior of the straight pipes with local wall thinning was compared with that of non wall-thinning pipes. The failure modes were classifiedas local buckling, ovalization, or crack initiation, depending on the depth, shape, and location of the local wall thinning. Three-dimensional elasto-plastic analyses were carried out using the finite element method. The deformation and failure behavior, simulated by finite element analyses, coincided with the experimental results.
It has been well hewn that ductile fracture of steels is accelerated by triaxial stresses. The characteristics of ductile crack initiation in steels are evaluated quantitatively using a two-parameters criterion based on equivalent plastic strain and stress triaxiality. The present study focuses on the effects of strength mismatch, which can elevate plastic constraint due to heterogeneous plastic straining, on the critical condition for ductile fracture initiation usinga two-parameter criterion. Fracture initiation testing has been conducted under static loading using notched round bar specimens which had different notch locations. This study provides the fundamental clarification of the effect of strength mismatching and effect of notch location on the critical condition to ductile crack initiation from notch root using fuite element method and ultrasonic-mechatronics system. The critical condition of ductile crack initiation from notch root of strength mismatched tensile specimens under static loading appeared to be almost the same as those of homogeneous tensile specimens with circumferential sharp notch specimen. Also, the effect of notch location in mismatched specimens was estimated using finite element(FE) analyses.

Distribution of fracture system is an important factor to analyse instability of jointed rock slope. In the most case of rock slopes, joint distribution properties are related to potential, shape, size and locality of slope failure. The purpose of this paper is to present an application of fracture characterization related to rock slope failure. Fracture data used in this study are collected by scanline survey. Two aspects of fracture characterization for rock slope are handled in this study First, In order to determine the potential and shape of slope failure, trace length of joints is considered as the weighting factor about collected orientation data. Second, Relationship between trace length and spacing is analysed to estimate failure location and size. The distribution of fracture system is directly influenced on wedge failure. It is effective to analyse the orientation of fractures by using weighting factors associated with the trace length of fractures rather than to analyse only that of fractures. It gives a conclusion that the wedge failure occurred along the peak of fracture density(or intensity) cycles.
Longitudinal fracture in a functionally graded beam configuration was studied analytically with taking into account the non-linear behavior of the material. A cantilever beam with two longitudinal cracks located symmetrically with respect to the centroid was analyzed. The material was functionally graded along the beam width as well as along the beam length. The fracture was studied in terms of the strain energy release rate. The influence of material gradient, crack location along the beam width, crack length and material non-linearity on the fracture behavior was investigated. It was shown that the analytical solution derived is very useful for parametric analyses of the non-linear longitudinal fracture behavior. It was found that by using appropriate material gradients in width and length directions of the beam, the strain energy release rate can be reduced significantly. Thus, the results obtained in the present paper may be applied for optimization of functionally graded beam structure with respect to the longitudinal fracture performance.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the factors affecting the healing of root fracture in immature permanent teeth and the prognosis of root fracture by statistically analyzing the relationship with the pulp and root healing. The radiographs of 51 root-fractured maxillary anterior permanent teeth were collected. In radiograph, locations of root fracture, apical foramen width and width of diastasis between the fragments were measured. The value of the studied parameters were compared by independent t-test and rogistic regression test. In conclusion, there was no difference in the prognosis of pulp healing according to the location of root fracture. However, root healing occurs well as the root fracture is located at the root apex (p < 0.05). Lastly, the smaller the width of diastasis between the fragments after reduction, the better the pulp healing was (p < 0.05).
Purpose: One of the main contributors to proximal fifth metatarsal fracture is ankle inversion and the incidence of recurrence may increase in patients with ankle instability. So, the authors confirmed the patients of proximal fifth metatarsal fracture with ankle instability by checking the history and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and assessed the value of MRI as therapeutic prognosis and clinical indicators for prevention of recurrence. Materials and Methods: Patients with proximal fifth metatarsal fractures visited our hospital during recent five years were reviewed. 35 patients with suspected damage by ankle inversion had been identified a history of ankle instability and checked the hindfoot malalignment through hindfoot alignment view and MRI was performed prospectively. The patients was devided to three groups on the location of fracture site and the groups were compared each other. Results: The mean time from injury to checking MRI was 10.7 days. There was no structural abnormality and was no significant difference according to the location of fracture. The patients with history of ankle inversion were 31(88.6%) and the patients with history of chronic or recurrent injury were 22 patients (62.9%). The lesion of MRI related to lateral ankle instability were identified in all patients. Conclusion: This study noted a high incidence of lateral ankle instability that was identified by MRI in the patients of proximal fifth metatarsal fracture. Aggressive treatment for lateral ankle instability should be needed for complications as proximal fifth metatarsal fracture to reduce the recurrence and occurrence.

It is well known that acoustic emission (AE) is indicator of rock fracturing or damage as rock is brought to failure under the uniaxial compressive loads. In this paper, an experimental study on the source location of acoustic emission on the cylindrical specimens of granite under uniaxial compression test was made. The AE source location was made by measuring the six channel AE data. Comparing to this experiment, the numerical method is applied to model the initiation and propagation of fracture by AE using a numerical code, RFPA (Realistic Failure Process Analysis). This code incorporates the mesoscopic heterogeneity in Young's modulus and rock strength characteristic of rock masses. In the numerical models, values of Young's modulus and rock strength are realized according to a Weibull distribution in which the distribution parameters represent the level of heterogeneity of the medium. The results of the simulations show that RFPA can be used not only to produce acoustic emission similar to those measurements in our experiments, but also to predict fracturing patterns under uniaxial loading condition.
