  • The fourth industrial revolution, with its characteristics of "hyper-connectivity", "hyper-intelligence" and "automation", is a hot topic worldwide. It will fundamentally change industry, economy, and business models through technological innovations, such as big data, cloud computing, Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and 3D printing. In particular, the development of highly advanced information technology (IT) and AI is expected to replace human roles, thereby changing employment and occupation prospects in the future. Based on this, some predict that the profession of the pharmacist will soon disappear. To counter this, pharmacists' attention and efforts are required to seek innovative transformations in their functions by responding sensitively and promptly to changes of the fourth industrial revolution. It is also necessary to recognize the new roles of pharmacists and to develop the competencies to perform them. The fourth industrial revolution is an inevitable change of the times. At this time, we should take comprehensive and open perspectives on how the future society will change economically, culturally, and socially, and use it as an opportunity to shape the new future of pharmacists.

  • With the rapid development of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and digital transformation, scientific and technological innovation measures are being devised to overcome Korea's low-growth, high-cost structure. Accordingly, by examining the R&D investment evaluation system of R&D PIE (R&D Platform for Investment and Evaluation), which has been promoted by the Korean government in response to the Fourth Industrial Revolution, from the perspective of R&D transformation, this study aims to explore a new path for a sustainable national science and technology innovation system following digital transformation. In particular, from the perspective of R&D PIE, a MLP (Multi-level Perspective), which had been conducted as an abstract theoretical study, was attempted with specific cases and analysis for each of the three layers: niche, landscape, and regime. In conclusion, R&D PIE was intended to elevate the abstract R&D investment evaluation system to a platform that leads innovation in the digital space of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. In addition, it was confirmed that the R&D PIE could be replaced or enhanced as a platform for innovation in response to the Fourth Industrial Revolution, thereby providing an alternative to job creation and an escape from economic crisis.

  • One of the current focal points in the defense sector is how to strategically leverage the technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution in military operations. The Fourth Industrial Revolution denotes a transformational shift in the environment where automation and connectivity are maximized, primarily driven by advancements in machine learning and artificial intelligence. Coined by Klaus Schwab at the 2015 Davos Forum, this term signifies a profound change in human activities, akin to how a single machine replaced hundreds of laborers in the past. The military application of Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies is increasingly researched and anticipated to be actively implemented. Combat, as a subset of warfare, entails military actions between units conducting war. Typically performed by units to achieve one or more objectives, the concept of combat involves the fundamental ideas guiding the conduct of military operations against adversaries, both presently and in the future. Hence, it is imperative for our military to develop future combat concepts by harnessing the key technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
