Impact of FWM on manchester coded DPSK WDM communication systems (Manchester coded DPSK WIDM 통신 시스템에서 FWM의 영향)

  • The performance of Manchester-coded DPSK optical wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) systems using a stochastic approach is evaluated taking into account the shot noise and the four-wave mixing (FWM) caused by fiber nonlinearities. The result of Manchester-coded system is compared to conventional non-return-to-zero (NRZ) systems for DPSK modulation formats. Further, the dynamic range, defined as the ratio of the maximum input power (limited by the FWM), to the minimum input power (limited by receiver sensitivity), is evaluated. For $1.55.{\mu}m$16 channel WDM systems, the dynamic range of DPSK Manchester coded systems shows a 2.1 dB improvement with respect to the NRZ. This result holds true for both dispersion-shifted fiber and conventional fiber; it has been obtained for 10 GHz channel spacing, 1 Gbps/channel bit rate.t rate.

Measurement of temperature dependence of the zero dispersion wavelength using Four-Wave mixing in DSF (4광파혼합을 이용한 온도에 따른 분산천이광섬유(DSF)의 영분산파장 변화 측정)

  • We derived an equation showing the temperature dependence of the zero-dispersion wavelength and measured the temperature dependence of the zero dispersion wavelength using four-wave mixing in dispersion shifted fibers in the range of $22^{\circ}C-59^{\circ}C$ From the experimental results, we found that the zero-dispersion wavelength is increased as the temperature around DSF increases and its temperature dependence is 0.032 nm/$^{\circ}C$. Also, the calculated behavior of FWM efficiency coincided with the experimental result.

  • In this paper, we showed the applicability of power symmetric MSSI(Mid-Span Spectral Inversion) to the long-haul WDM system with the channel interference due to FWM(Four Wave Mixing). And we showed the degree of performance improvement. We used 1 dB EOP(Eye-Opening Penalty) criterion so as to evaluate the degree of compensation dependent on the variation of chirp parameter of optical pulse for the various input power in high speed tansmission system. And we evaluated the maximum input power of channel be able to be the signal to crosstalk noise (SNR) above 20 dB in the transmission link with the channel interference due to FWM. Consequently the proposed MSSI compensation method is capable to transmitting the total 68 WDM channels simultaneously with a 0.4 nm channel spacing and 5.3 dBm maximum input power in a 10 Gbps transmission link. Therefore the proposed power symmetric MSSI compensation method may be very useful for the implementation of long-haul wideband WDM transmission systems with relatively high power and improved performance.

  • In this paper, the oscillation condition for the linear phase-conjugate oscillator which consists of one photorefractive crystal, two conventional mirrors, and two pump waves applied externally has been analyzed. In the result, it has been shown that the oscillation condition of this oscillator can be easily controlled by adjusting the various parameters such as the intensity ratio, polarization states, and light path difference of two pump waves, etc.

  • 반도체 양자구조에 대한 광특성을 이해하기 위하여 정상상태에서의 흡수 스펙트럼과 광여기 발광측정을 통하여 양자구속효과 등의 선형 광특성에 대해 알아보았다. 또한 반도체 양자 구조를 이용한 광소자 개발에 있어서 매우 중요한 반도체의 비선형 광특성을 이해하기 위하여 비선형성을 일으키는 쿨롱 스크리닝, 띠채움, 밴드갭 재규격화, 그리고 열효과 등에 대해 알아 보았다. 그리고 광여기에 의해 생성되는 운반자들의 동력학에 대해 알아보고 이러한 운반자들의 시간에 따른 움직임을 측정하는 degenerate four-wave mixing과 differential transmission spectroscopy등의 시간 분해 분광학에 대해 소개하였다.

  • The induced linewidth, frequency shift and absorption spectrum for a molecular dipole in the vicinity of a phase -conjugate mirror have been investgated within a classical phenomenological model, with particularreference to the technique of optical phase conjugation by a surface. While the shifts and the widths show similar characteristics as those obtained recently by Bochove who considered the problem within the context of four-wave mixing, the results obtained in the present model can be defined uniquely with the possibility of an infinite lifetime for the excited admolecule . Furthermore, the absorption lineshape obtained here some interesting features which depend on both the magnitude and the phase of the complex reflectivity of the mirror.

  • The crystal structure and optical properties of copper nanoparticles, prepared in fused silica by ion-implantation and subsequent heat-treatment, were characterized by X-ray, TEM, linear absorption, and degenerate four-wave mixing (DFWM) technique. The X-ray data show fcc lattice structure of the nanocrystals and their size was measured as 8-20 nanometer by high resolution TEM. Using DFWM, the third-order nonlinear optical coefficient of the Cu-SiO2 thin films was measured as 0.4-1.1×10-8 esu in the surface plasmon resonance absorption region (540-570 nm).

Airside Performance of Convex Louver Fin-and-Tube Heat Exchangers

  • The heat transfer and friction characteristics of heat exchangers having convex louver fins are experimentally investigated, and the results are compared with those of wave fin counterparts. Eighteen samples (nine convex louver fin samples and nine wave fin samples) which had different fm pitches (1.81 mm to 2.54 mm) and tube rows (one to four) were tested. The convex angle was $11.7^{\circ}$. The j factors are insensitive to fin pitch, while f factors increase as fin pitch increases. The effect of fin pitch on f factor is more significant for the wave fin compared with the convex louver fin. It appears that the complex fin pattern of the convex louver fin induces intense mixing of the flow, and thus reduces the effect of fin pitch. Both the j and f factors decrease as the number of tube row increases. However, as the Reynolds number increases, the effect of tube row diminishes. Comparison of the convex louver fin j factors with those of wave fin reveals that convex louver fin j factors are 18% to 29% higher than those of wave fin. The f factors are 16% to 34% higher for the convex louver fin. The difference increases as fin pitch decreases. Existing correlation fails to adequately predict the present data. More data is needed for a general correlation of the convex louver fin geometry.
