조릿대 잎 추출물이 탄수화물 급원 식품의 당 내성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Sasa Borealis Leaf Extract on the Glucose Tolerance of Major Foods for Carbohydrate)

  • Sasa borealis leaf has been known to have anti-diabetic properties. In this study, we tried to evaluate the effects of Sasa borealis leaf extract (SBE) on the inhibition of $\alpha$-glucosidase activity and postprandial glycemic response following ingestion of four carbohydrate-rich foods; cooked rice, ramen (instant noodle), noodle, and bread. Fourteen healthy female adults consumed 50 g of glucose (control) or one of the four foods containing 50 g of available carbohydrate with or without 2,000 mg of SBE. The activity of $\alpha$-glucosidase was inhibited dose-dependently by SBE. With SBE, blood glucose concentration at 15 min and the positive area under the curve (AUC) of postprandial glycemic response at 15 min and 30 min after consuming each of the four foods were reduced significantly. As the result, total positive AUC during 120 min was decreased in case of taking cooked rice or bread. Glycemic index and glycemic load of the four foods were declined from 13% to 23% with SBE. The results of this study suggest that SBE may be effective for postprandial glucose control by inhibiting $\alpha$-glucosidase activity.

2중 코어 구조의 소화기용 친환경 탄자 제조 및 특성 분석 (Fabrication and Performance Analysis of Environment Friendly Double Core Bullets for Small Arms)

  • This paper focuses on the properties analysis of 9mm bullet dual structure core to substitute current lead core by environment-friendly combination of W-Cu-Ni system high density composite materials. So the four combination samples were made of dual core with the different center of gravity location backward or forward compare to that of lead type bullet, and we experimented about the performance of 9mm bullet dual structure core. In the experimental results, the outer shape of core of four environment friendly samples on the target maintain marginally, while the current lead core bullets are completely crushed after hitting the target. The penetration depth of environment friendly samples excel seven times to lead type bullet and the three out of four samples with forward adjusted center of gravity penetrate deep as twice as ones backward. The impact tolerance of all four samples satisfies military specification, however, more firing tests are required to improve reliability of scattering distribution.

Functional Studies of Cysteine Residues in Human Glutathione S-Transferase P1-1 by Site-Directed Mutagenesis

  • To gain further insight into the relationship between structure and function of glutathione S-transferase (GST), the four cysteine mutants, C14S, C47S, C101S and C169S, of human GST P1-1 were expressed in Escherichia coli and purified to electrophoretic homogeneity by affinity chromatography on immobilized glutathione (GSH). The catalytic activities of the four mutant enzymes were characterized with five different substrates as well as by their binding to four different inhibitors. Cys14 seems to participate in the catalytic reaction of GST by stabilizing the conformation of the active-site loop, not in the GSH binding directly. The substitution of Cys47 with serine significantly reduces the affinity of GSH binding, although it does not prevent GSH binding. On the other hand, the substitution of Cys101 with serine appears to change the binding affinity of electrophilic substrate by inducing a conformational change of the $\alpha-helix$ D. Cys169 seems to be important for maintaining the stable conformation of the enzyme. In addition, all four cysteine residues are not needed for the steroid isomerase activity of human glutathione S-transferase P1-1.

Evaluation of Rheological and Sensory Characteristics of Plant-Based Meat Analog with Comparison to Beef and Pork

  • This study explored the physicochemical, textural, and sensorial properties of a meat analog (MA) as compared to beef and pork meats. Results illustrate that MA patties had lower moisture, fat, and protein content, as well as higher ash and crude fiber than beef and pork. Likewise, MA patties had a higher pH, lightness (L*), and redness (a*) than either beef or pork. Pork meat exhibited the highest released water (RW) and cooking loss (CL) values, followed closely by MA with beef displaying the lowest values. Regardless of patty type, the post-cooking diameter patties were reduced significantly (p<0.05). However, the Warner-Bratzler shear force (WBSF), hardness, chewiness, and gumminess of beef were significantly higher than that of either pork or MA. The visible appearance of MA patties had more porous and loose structures before and after cooking. Consequently, based on sensory parameters, MA patties demonstrated the higher values for appearance and firmness, followed by beef and pork respectively, although the difference was not statistically significant. Therefore, the current study demonstrated that some physicochemical, textural, and sensory characteristics of beef and pork exhibited the most similarity to MA.

Vibration analysis of functionally graded graphene platelet-reinforced composite doubly-curved shallow shells on elastic foundations

  • Based on a four-variable shear deformation shell theory, the free vibration analysis of functionally graded graphene platelet-reinforced composite (FGGPRC) doubly-curved shallow shells with different boundary conditions is investigated in this work. The doubly-curved shells are composed of multi nanocomposite layers that are reinforced with graphene platelets. The graphene platelets are uniformly distributed in each individual layer. While, the volume faction of the graphene is graded from layer to other in accordance with a novel distribution law. Based on the suggested distribution law, four types of FGGPRC doubly-curved shells are studied. The present shells are assumed to be rested on elastic foundations. The material properties of each layer are calculated using a micromechanical model. Four equations of motion are deduced utilizing Hamilton's principle and then converted to an eigenvalue problem employing an analytical method. The obtained results are checked by introducing some comparison examples. A detailed parametric investigation is performed to illustrate the influences of the distribution type of volume fraction, shell curvatures, elastic foundation stiffness and boundary conditions on the vibration of FGGPRC doubly-curved shells.

Isolation and characterization of four unrecorded wild yeasts from the soils of Republic of Korea in winter

  • The purpose of this study was to isolate and identify wild yeasts from the soil collected in Gwangju and Pocheon City, Gyeonggi Province, Republic of Korea. Among 10 strains, six strains were already reported, but four strains were unrecorded in Republic of Korea. To identify wild yeast strains, pairwise sequence comparisons of the D1/D2 region of the 26S rRNA gene sequence were performed using Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLAST). The cell morphologies were observed by phase contrast microscope and assimilation tests were carried out using API 20C AUX kit. The 10 strains were assigned to the phyla Basidiomycota (8 strains) and Ascomycota (2strains). The unrecorded four yeast strains, NH33, NH19, NH20, and YP416, belong to the phylum Basidiomycota and the genera Buckleyzyma, Leucosporidium, Holtermanniales, and Mrakia, respectively. All strains had oval-shaped and polar budding cells. In this research, the morphological and biochemical properties of four unreported yeast species were characterized intensively, which were not officially reported in Korea.

도말층 제거와 상아질의 부위가 치수강 내부 상아질에 대한 수종 상아질 결합제의 전단결합성질에 미치는 영향 (THE EFFECT OF SMEAR LAYER REMOVAL AND POSITION OF DENTIN ON SHEAR BOND PROPERTIES OF DENTIN BONDING SYSTEMS TO INTERNAL CERVICAL DENTIN)

  • The aim of this study was to determine the shear bond properties of four dentin bonding systems to internal cervical dentin, and to investigate the effect of the pretreatment for removing smear layer and position of dentin on shear bond strength of dentin bonding agents. The materials tested in this study were consisted of four commercially available dentin bonding systems[Allbond 2(AB), Clearfil Linerbond 2(CL), Optibond FL(OP), Scotchbond Multi-purpose(SB)], a restorative light-cured composite resin[Z100]J and a chelating agent[RC-prep(RC)]. Fifty-six freshly extracted human molars were used in this study. Dentin specimens were prepared by first cutting the root of the tooth 1mm below the cementoenamel junction with a diamond bur in a high speed handpiece under air-water coolant, and then removing occlusal part at pulp horn level by means of a second parallel section, The root canal areas were exposed by means of cutting the dent in specimens perpendicular to the root axis. Dentin specimens were randomly assigned to two groups(pretreated group, not-pretreated group) based on the pretreatment method of dentin surface. In pretreated group, RC was applied to dentin surface for 1minute and then rinsed with NaOCl. In not-pretreated group, dentin surface was rinsed with saline Each groups were subdevided into four groups according to dentin bonding systems. Four dentin bonding systems and a restorative resin were applied according to the directions of manufacturer. The dentin-resin specimens were embedded in a cold cure acrylic resin, and were cut with a low speed diamond saw to the dimension of $1{\times}1mm$. The cut specimens were divided into three groups according to the position of internal cervical dentin. The shear bond properties of dentin-resin specimens were measured with Universal testing machine (Zwick, 020, Germany) with the cross head speed of 0.5mm/min. From this experiment. the following results were obtained : 1. In case of shear bond strength, there was no significant difference among dentin bonding systems in not-pretreated groups, whereas in pretreated groups, the shear bond strengths of AB and of SB were statistically significantly higher than those of CL and of OP. 2. The shear bond strengths of AB and of SB in pretreated groups were significantly higher than those in not-pretreated groups. 3. The shear bond strengths of radicular layer of OP were higher than those of occlusal layer of OP in not-pretreated groups, and of AB in pretreated groups. The shear bond strengths of radicular layer of AB and of CL in not-pretreated groups were higher than those in pretreated group.

지대치 재료의 환경변화에 따른 물리적 성질에 관한 연구 (THE EFFECT OF ENVIRONMENT ON THE PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF CORE MATERIALS)

  • 비금속 지대치 재료의 구강 내 환경변화에 따른 물리적 성질을 구명하기 위하여 4종의 지대치 재료를 다양한 환경에 보관한 후 굴곡강도 및 표면경도의 변화를 관찰하여 조건에 따른 영향을 구명하고자 이 연구를 시행하였다. Bisfil Core, Core Max, Fuji IX GP, Miracle Mix를 사용하여 굴곡강도 측정을 위한 시편을 제작한 후 최대하중을 측정하여 굴곡강도와 굴곡탄성계수를 계산하였다. 표면경도 측정을 위하여 아크릴릭 레진블럭에 상기 4종의 재료를 충전하여 중합시킨 후 순차 연마하여 경도측정을 위한 시편을 제작하고 Vickers hardness를 계산하였다. 1. 굴곡강도는 Core Max에서 가장 높고 Miracle Mix에서 가장 낮았다. 2. $37^{\circ}C$ 증류수에 24시간 보관한 군에서 Bisfil Core가 경도가 가장 높았다. 3. 30일 저장군에서는 Core Max가 경도가 가장 높았다. 4. 모든 군에서 Miracle Mix가 가장 낮은 경도를 나타냈다. 5. $2\%$ NaF용액과 0.02N lactic acid용액은 증류수보다 지대치 재료의 굴곡강도와 표면경도를 저하시켰다.

유기 광기전 소자의 전기적 특성에 미치는 산소 플라즈마 처리의 영향 (Effects of Oxygen Plasma Treatment on the Electrical Properties of Organic Photovoltaic Cells)

  • An indium-tin-oxide (ITO) is normally used as a substrate in organic photovoltaic cells. We examined the effects of an oxygen ($O_2$) plasma treatment on the electrical properties of an organic photovoltaic cell. Experiments with four-point probe method and atomic force microscope revealed the lowest surface resistance of 17.64 ${\Omega}$/sq and the lowest average surface roughness of 1.39 nm at the plasma treatment power of 250 W. A device structure of ITO/CuPc/$C_{60}$/BCP/$Cs_2CO_3$/Al was fabricated by thermal evaporation with and without the plasma treated ITO substrate. It was found that the power conversion efficiency of the cell with the plasma treated ITO is 65 % higher than the one without the plasma treated ITO.

길항세균들이 생산하는 Chitin 분해효소의 특성 (Production and Some Properties of Chitinolytic Enzymes by Antagonistic Bacteria)

  • Production and some properties of chitinolytic enzymes were investigated by 80% ammonium sulfate precipitates (crude enzymes) from culture supernatant of antagonistic bacteria, Chromobacterium violaceum strain C-61 and strain C-72, Aeromonas hydrophila, Aeromonas caviae, and Serratia marcescens. The maximum production of chitinase was obtained from the 3-day culture at 28$^{\circ}C$ in C. violaceum stains, the 6-day culture in S. marcescens, and the 2-day culture in A. hydrophila and A. caviae. In the optimum culture periods, chitinase activity of C. violaceum strains C-61 was 1.5, 5.5, 12.0 and 11.3 times higher than those of strain C-72, S. marcescens, A. hydrophila and A. caviae, respectively. However, N,N'-diacetylchitobiase activity was 3.2 times higher in S. marcescens than in C. violaceum strain C-61, and that of Aeromonas spp.was very low. On gels containing glycol chitin, chitinase of C. violaceum strains showed four isoforms of 54-, 52-, 50- and 37-kDa, whereas there were four isoforms of 58-, 52-, 48- and 38-kDa in S. arcescens, three isoforms of 70-, 58- and 54-kDa in A. hydrophila and six isoforms of 90-, 79-, 71-, 63-, 58- and 38-kDa in A. caviae. The chitinase of C. violaceum strain C-61 was most active at pH 7.0 and at 5$0^{\circ}C$ and was stable in ranges of pH 5.0~10.0 for 2 hours and of 0~5$0^{\circ}C$ for 30 min.
