  • Blue light is the highest energy wavelengths in the visible light region and induces skin aging and active oxygen. Studies on harmful mechanism of skin are under way. Research on blue light blocking materials in cosmetics and formulation studies are in the early stage, and the test methods related to blue light blocking measurement are not established. The blue light blocking efficacy was established by referring to the test method of the sunscreen in vitro test(COLIPA guideline, ISO 24443, FDA Final Rule on Sunscreen Testing and Labeling). The blue light blocking effect was evaluated for 17 kinds out of 27 kinds of sunscreen raw materials suggested in KFDA guideline. The Effect was 14.97% for zinc oxide and 16.32% for bishexyloxyphenol methoxyphenyl triazine, 35.47% for methylene bis-benzotriazolyltetramethylbutylphenol, and 65.96% for titanium dioxide. In addition, the effect of micro-titanium dioxide was twice as high as that of the nano-titanium dioxide. The results suggested that the light blocking effect test method can be used to search for blue light blocking materials and study cosmetic formulations.

  • A novel glucanhydrolase from a mutant of Lipomyces starkeyi(KSM 22)has been shown effective in hydrolysis of mutan, reduction of mutan formation by Streptococcus mutans and removal pre-formed sucrose-dependent adherent microbial film and Lipomyces starkeyi KSM 22 dextranase has been strongly bound to hydroxyapatitie. These in vitro properties of Lipomyces starkeyi KSM 22 dextranase are desirable for its application as a dental plaque control agent. This study was performed to determine oral hygiene benefits and safety of dextranase(Lipomyces starkeyi KSM 22 dextranase)-containing mouthwash in human experimental gingivitis. This 3-week clinical trial was placebo-controlled double-blind design evaluating 1U/ml dextranase mouthwash and 0.12% chlorhexidine mouthwash. A total 39 systemically healthy subjects, who had moderate levels of plaque and gingivitis were included. At baseline, 1, 2 and 3 weeks, subjects were scored for plaque(Silness and $L{\ddot{o}e$ plaque index and plaque severity index), gingivitis($L{\ddot{o}e$ and Silness gingival index), and at baseline and 3 weeks of experiment, subjects were scored for plaque(Turesky-Quingley-Hein's plaque index and plaque severity index), tooth stain(Area and severity index system by Lang et al). Additionally, oral mucosal examinations were performed and subjects questioned for adverse symptoms. Two weeks after pre-experiment examinations and a professional prophylaxis, the subjects provided with allocated mousewash and instructed to use 20-ml volumes for 30s twice dailywithout toothbrushing. All the groups showed significant increase in plaque accumulation since 1 week of experiment. During 3 weeks' period, the dextranase group showed the least increase in plaque accumulation of Silness and $L{\ddot{o}e$ plaque index, compared to the chlorhexidine and placebo groups, but chlorhexidine group showed the least increase inplaque accumulation of Turesky-Quingley-Hein's plaque index. As for gingival inflammation, all the groups showed significant increase during 3 weeks of experiment. The dextranase group also showed the least increase in gingival index score, compared to the chlorhexidine as well as the placebo groups. Whereas the tooth stain was increased significantly in the chlorhexidine group, compared to the baseline score and the placebo group since 3 weeks of mouthrinsing. It was significantly increased after 3 weeks in the dextranase group, still less severe than the chlorhexidine group. As for the oral side effect, the dextranase group showed less tongue accumulation, bad taste, compared to the chlorhexidine group. From these results, mouthrinsing with Lipomyces starkeyi KSM 22 dextranase was comparable to 0.12% chlorhexidine mouthwashin inhibition of plaque accumulation and gingival inflammation and local side effects were if anything less frequent and less intense than chlorhexidine, in human experimental gingivitis. All data had provided positive evidence for Lipomyces starkeyi KSM 22 dextranase as an antiplaque agent and suggested that further development of dextranase formulations for plaque control are warranted.

  • To determine a favorable substrate formulation for Grifola frondosa, physicochemical conditions, culture properties, and yields according to various substrate formulations were investigated. Based on these analyses, T4 (80:5:15 ratio of oak sawdust to dried bean-curd refuse to corn husk) resulted in a shorter cultivation period and higher yields (weight of fresh mushrooms harvested at maturity) than those of other treatments. The physicochemical properties of T4 were pH 5.4, 2.4% crude fat contents, 54 C/N ratio, 74.3% porosity, and 0.26 g/cm3 bulk density. These results emphasize the importance of optimal substrate development on the production efficiency of G. frondosa mushrooms and have implications for commercial applications.

  • We have tried to measure the anti-dandruff effect of the several kinds of formulations by determining the MIC values of the P. ovale which was determined by resazurin(alarmar Blue$^{TM}$). To get high reproducibility, it was suggested that about 2.6$\times$10$^{5}$ cfu/$m\ell$ of P ovate should be incubated with alarmar Blue$^{TM}$, optimum dilution ratio between alarmar Blue$^{TM}$ and PBS buffer should be 1:1 -1:4, and optimum incubation time should be 16 ~ 24 hours. Even though 1:1 diluted alarmar Blue$^{TM}$ was incubated with P ovale, the metabolic activity of if ovule was not inhibited by alarmar BlueTM. The Minimum Inhibitory Concentration(MIC) values of several kinds of anti-dandruff formulation which were the mixture system between Zinc pyrithione and Climbazole make it possible to determine the optimal anti-dandruff formulation, which show similar results with that of microscopic MIC determination and that of SDDM(Skin-Disk Diffusion Method). It is expected that the anti-dandruff test method which uses alarmar Blue$^{TM}$ could be used as an effective in vitro test method because it was not so much affected by the turbidity of the broth and samples, and it can afford the MIC values of many samples within relatively short time by using microplate reader.te reader.

  • A. koreanum was investigated to identify the constituents possessing whitening effects. As anti-melanogenesis activities were screened for the ethanol extract and solvent fractions, n-hexane (Hex) and ethyl acetate (EtOAc) fractions showed the most potent activities. Three constituents were isolated from the n-Hex fraction of A. koreanum; kaurenoic acid (1), $16{\alpha}$-hydro-17-isovaleroyloxy-ent-kauran-19-oicacid (2), $16{\alpha}$-hydroxy-17-isovaleroyl-oxy-ent-kauran-19-oic acid (3). The chemical structures of the isolated compounds were elucidated based on the spectroscopic data including $^1H$ and $^{13}C$ NMR spectra, as well as comparison of the data to the literature values. Whitening effects were studied for the isolated compounds. Upon the anti-melanogenesis test using ${\alpha}-MSH$ stimulated B16F10 melanoma cells, the compounds 1, 2 and 3 inhibited the cellular melanogenesis and intracellular tyrosinase activities effectively. Based on these results, A. koreanum stems extract could be potentially applicable as whitening ingredients in cosmetic formulations.

  • This study was performed to develop the cosmetics containing extract of U.davidiana, which has been confirmed as a functional ingredient of anti-microbial, anti-oxidant, and anti-inflammatory effects, and also to evaluate the improvement effects of dry and sensitive skin such as atopic dermatitis. Toxicity tests of the Ulmus davidiana supercritical fluid residue 60% EtOH extracts(USCFR), Ulmus davidiana supercritical fluid extracts(USCF) and preliminary formulations, DKBP-1903(gel), containing the USCFR and USCF were determined to be 'Non-toxic'. Based on this, the stability test of the lotion, cream, gel formulation was conducted and the results showed that cream and gel formulation were stable. A 48-hour moisturizing sustainability test and the improvement test on the pruritus caused by dryness were selected for the cosmetic efficacy test to evaluate the improvement of atopic dermatitis and as a result both cream and gel have been found to be relatively safe moisturizers that can help dry and sensitive skin.

  • In this paper, it is proposed that the effects of simulator sickness due to scene movement in ship handling simulator can be measured by using center of pressure (COP) and a simulator sickness questionnaire (SSQ). For experiments of simulator sickness, twelve participants are exposed to scenes movement from ship handling simulator according to three steps of sea states. During experiments, COPs for subjects are measured by force plate. After exposure to scenes movement, subjects describe their sickness symptoms by answering the SSQ. Throughput analysing the results of scene movement, SSQ, and COP, the relation between the simulator sickness and COP is investigated. It is suggested that formulations for SSQ score and COP with respect to sea state are obtained by the curve fitting technique, and the longitudinal COP can be used for measuring the simulator sickness.

  • In this research, we tried to investigate the influence of concrete on cracks after applying to the actual construction site using the TPS construction method which can be easily charged by the mechanical injection method. To summarize the results, the following It is as follows. First, in the case of ultrasonic velocity, it can be seen that the ultrasonic wave passes rapidly at an average of about 36 mm / sec as compared with the syringe method when using the TPS method, and in the case of the injection depth, the syringe method In the case of TPS construction method, it showed an excellent tendency that 100% of the water retentive material was charged with all the formulations under a strong injection pressure. In the case of compressive strength, it was shown that the average was increased by 16.8% at the time of using the TPS construction method, and it was found to be structurally superior. Taken together, it is possible to confirm the behavior of the crack repairing agent by improving the quality by improving the strength and confirming the window installation by filling the injection material into the closed space at the crack site when using the TPS method compared with the syringe method. In addition, it is expected that construction time will be improved by shortening the construction period of about 5 days for the TPS construction method construction section 532 m, and usability will be expanded by the crack repair method of concrete structure.
