Electrochemical capacitors are becoming attractive energy storage systems particularly for applications involving high power requirements such as hybrid systems consisting of batteries and electrochemical capacitors for electric vehicle propulsion. A new type electric double layer capacitor (EDLC) was constructed by using carbon nanofibers (CNFs) and DAAQ(1,5-diaminoanthraquinone) electrode. Carbonaceous materials are found in variety forms such as graphite, diamond, carbon fibers etc. While all the carbon nanofibers include impurities such as amorphous carbon, nanoparticles, catalytic metals and incompletely grown carbons. We have eliminated of Ni particles and some carbonaceous particles in nitric acid. Nitric acid treated CNFs could be covered with very thin DAAQ oligomer from the results of CV and TG analyses and SEM images. DAAQ oligomer film exhibited a specific capacity as 45-50 Ah/kg in 4M $H_2SO_4$. We established Process Parameters of the technique for the formation of nano-structured materials. Furthermore, improved the capacitive properties of the nano structured CNFs electrodes using controlled solution chemistry. As a result, CNFs coated by DAAQ composite electrode showed relatively good electrochemical behaviors in acidic electrolyte system with respect to specific capacity and scan rate dependency.
A complete solid solution (SrLaAl1-xNixO4) between insulating SrLaAlO4 and metallic SrLaNi(Ⅲ)O4 oxides were prepared under high oxygen pressure (1.5 kbar, 800 ℃). They have tetragonal K2NiF4-type structure in all the solid solution range. Compared with lattice parameters of the same solid solution prepared under normal condition (1 bar, 1200 ℃), large decrease in the c-parameter was induced by high pressure treatment while no noticeable variation of the a-parameter was observed. Although marked changes of structural parameters, magnetic susceptibilities, and electron paramagnetic resonance spectra were consistently occurred before and after x=0.5, overall behaviors were essentially the same with those of solid solution prepared under normal condition. Such a phenomenon is explained by assuming the formation of partially filled narrow σ*x2-y2 band for x>0.5. Lattice contraction along the c-axis by high pressure treatment seems not to broaden this band. Particularly, the continuous absorption characteristic of a high free carrier concentration for x>0.5 and the absence of Ni-O in-plane stretching mode in the infrared absorption spectra supports this picture. However, the conductivities increasing with temperature for all solid solution suggest that some localization character, of probably Anderson type, remains for x>0.5.

Liquid dispensing systems are extensively used in various industries such as display, semiconductor, and battery manufacturing. Of the many types of dispensers, drop-on-demand piezoelectric jetting systems are widely used in semiconductor industries because of their ability to dispense minute volumes with high precision. However, due to the problems of nozzle clogging and undesirable dispensing behavior in these dispensers, which often result in device failure, the use of highly viscous fluids is limited. Accordingly, we studied the behaviors of droplet formation based on changes in viscosity. The effects of surface energy and the inner diameters of needle-type nozzles were also studied. Results showed that nozzles with lower surface energies reduced the ejection volume of droplets when a smaller nozzle diameter (0.21 mm in this study) was applied. These results indicate that the hydrophobic treatment of nozzle surfaces and the use of smaller nozzle diameters are critical factors enabling the use of highly viscous fluids in precision dispensing applications.
Purpose: To define the concept of digital health literacy and identify its attributes. Methods: Walker and Avant's approach was employed for concept analysis. Attributes, antecedents, consequences, and the definition of digital health literacy were derived from a review of 28 studies. Results: Digital health literacy was identified to possess the following five attributes: health information seeking, health information processing, health information communication, health-related knowledge translation, and utilizing digital technology. Basic literacy skills, health concerns, motivation to use technology for health information, and access to digital technologies were all antecedents of the concept. The consequences of the concept were health behaviors, patient engagement, health status, and quality of life. Digital health literacy is the ability to seek relevant health information utilizing digital technology to solve health problems and improve quality of life. Furthermore, it refers to the translation of health-related knowledge obtained through health information processing-finding, understanding, and evaluating health information and health information communication-into the context in which individual and social factors interact. Conclusion: This study presented a new definition of digital health literacy that goes beyond existing internet-based eHealth literacy, by incorporating the context of emerging digital technologies. This proposed definition can serve as a foundation for the development of instruments and educational programs to improve individuals' digital health literacy.
A numerical investigation on forces and flow around three square cylinders in side-by-side arrangement is conducted at a Reynolds number Re = 150 with the cylinder center-to-center spacing ratio L/W = 1.1 ~ 9.0, where W is the cylinder side width. The flowat this Re is assumed to be two-dimensional, incompressible, and Newtonian. The flow simulation is conducted by using ANSYS-Fluent. The flow around the three side-by-side cylinders entails some novel flow physics, involving the interaction between the gap and free-stream side flows as well as that between the two gap flows. An increase in L/W from 1.1 to 9.0 leads to five distinct flow regimes, viz., base-bleed flow (L/W < 1.4), flip-flopping flow (1.4 < L/W < 2.1), symmetrically biased beat flow (2.1 < L/W < 2.6), non-biased beat flow (2.6 < L/W < 7.25) and weak interaction flow (7.25 < L/W < 9.0). The gap flow behaviors, time-averaged and fluctuating fluid forces, time-averaged pressure, recirculation bubble, formation length, and wake width in each flow regime are discussed in detail.
The microstructure, hardness, and wear behaviors of a High Velocity Oxygen Fuel(HVOF) sprayed WC-CoFe coating are comparatively investigated before and after laser heat treatments of the coating surface. During the spraying, the binder metal is melted and a small portion of WC is decomposed to $W_2C$. A porous coating is formed by evolution of carbon oxide gases formed by the reaction of the free carbon and the sprayed oxygen gas. The laser heat treatment eliminates the porosity and provides a more densified microstructure. After laser heat treatment, the porosity in the coating layer decreases from 1.7 % to 1.2 and the coating thickness decreases from $150{\mu}m$ to $100{\mu}m$. The surface hardness increases from 1440 Hv to 1117 Hv. In the wear test, the friction coefficient of coating decreases from 0.45 to 0.32 and the wear resistance is improved by the laser heat treatment. The improvement is likely due to the formation of oxide tribofilms.
Chitosan-polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) -bamboo charcoal/silica (CS-PVA-BC/SI) hybrid fillers with compatibilized styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) composites were fabricated by the interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) method. The structure and composition of the composite samples were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). The viscoelastic behaviors of the rubber composites and their vulcanizates were explored using a rubber processing analyzer (RPA) in the rheometer, strain sweep and temperature sweep modes. The storage and loss moduli of SBR increased significantly with the incorporation of different hybrid fillers, which was attributed to the formation of an interphase between the hybrid fillers and rubber matrix, and the effective dispersion of the hybrid fillers. The mechanical properties (hardness, tensile strength, oxygen transmission rate, and swelling rate) of the composite samples were characterized in detail. From the results of the mechanical test, it was found that BC-CS-PVA0SBR had the best mechanical properties. Therefore, the BC-CS-PVA hybrid filler provided the best reinforcement effects for the SBR latex in this research.
Large amount of formaldehyde could be released inevitably during the flame-retardant (FR) treatments or from the finished fabrics using Provatex reagent and Proban polymers which have been used as durable FRs for cotton. A water-soluble cyclophosphazene derivative was synthesized as an ecofriendly phosphorus-based FR for cotton fibers. Dichloro tetrakis{N-[3-(Dimethylamino)propyl]methacrylamido} cyclcophosphazene (DCTDCP) was synthesized through the substiutution reaction of Hexachloro cyclophosphazene and N-[3-(Dimethylamino)propyl] methacrylamide at a mole ratio of 1 : 4, which can be cured dually by both alkaline treatment and UV irradiation. More crosslinked networks were produced through the addition of Triacryloyl hexahydrotriazine and Acrylamide as a UV-curable crosslinker and a comonomer respectively. Both flame retardancy and washing durability of the FR cotton were improved synergistically. The durability improvement may be caused by the covalent bond formation of the FR with cellulose and the high degree of polymerization of DCTDCP, which can be verified by the pyrolysis and combustion behaviors analyzed by LOI, TGA, and microcalorimeter.
The present study fabricated polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fiber-reinforced alkali-activated slag/fly ash (AASF) composites with varying mixture ratios of slag and fly ash. The thermomechanical behaviors of the AASF composites exposed to 200, 400, 600, or 800℃ were evaluated by means of compressive strength test, visual observation, and fire resistance tests. X-ray diffractometry, mercury intrusion porosimetry, and thermogravimetry tests were performed to analyze the microstructure change of the AASF composites upon exposure to high temperatures. Specimens exhibited a gradual strength loss up to 600℃, while also showing a significant decrease in the strength above 600℃. The fire resistance test revealed the occurrence of an inflection point as indicated by an increase in the internal temperature at around 200℃. In addition, specimens showed the dehydration of C-S-H gel, the presence of åkermanite, gehlenite, and anorthite upon exposure to 800℃, which is associated with the formation of macropore population with pores having diameters of 1-3 ㎛ and 20-40 ㎛. Visual observation indicated that the PVA fibers mitigated the cracking and/or spalling of the specimens upon exposure to 800℃.
Mining activities focus on the production of mineral resources for energy generation and raw material requirements worldwide and it is a known fact that shallow reserves become scarce. For this reason, exploration of new resources proceeds consistently to meet the increasing energy and raw material demand of industrial activities. Rock mechanics has a vital role in underground mining and surface mining. Devices and instruments used in laboratory testing to determine rock mechanics related parameters might have limited sensing capability of the failure behavior. However, methodologies such as, thermal cameras, digital speckle correlation method and acoustic emission might enable to investigate the initial crack formation in detail. Regarding this, in this study, thermographic analysis was performed to analyze the failure behaviors of different types of rock specimens during uniaxial compressive strength experiments. The energy dissipation profiles of different types of rocks were characterized by the temperature difference recorded with an infrared thermal camera during experiments. The temperature increase at the failure moment was detected as 4.45℃ and 9.58℃ for andesite and gneiss-schist specimens, respectively. Higher temperature increase was observed with respect to higher UCS value. Besides, a temperature decreases of about 0.5-0.6℃ was recorded during the experiments of the marble specimens. The temperature change on the specimen is related to release of radiation energy. As a result of the porosity tests, it was observed that increase in the porosity rate from 5.65% to 20.97% can be associated to higher radiation energy released, from 12.68 kJ to 297.18 kJ.
