The purpose of this study was reducing the moisture accumulation in a wall, which can threaten the structural safety of light-frame wall and make residential environment poor. For the purpose, the laboratory test was carried out with different wall assemblies. Vapor retarder and air gap for ventilation were added to the typical wall. The improved performance of the proposed walls was examined through the test with distinct difference of temperature and relative humidity between outdoor and indoor air conditions. Increased dampproofing performance of additional vapor retarder was effective on reduction of moisture transmission from inside the house into the wall. However, unexpected high relative humidity was shown in the wall with two additional vapor retarder because of excessive dampproofing performance or inadequate location of vapor retarder. And, the open air gap induced the moisture transfer from inside the wall into outdoor air by ventilation. If the alternative to the induction of moisture transmission from inside the house into the wall with open air gap can be found, moisture reduction effect of that will be increased obviously.

This study was carried out to investigate the antifungal activity of the water soluble essential oil against Trichoderma spp. Water soluble essential oils from Pinus densiflora and Chamaecyparis obtusa were obtained from GAP (Gas assisted process) extraction apparatus. When the water soluble essential oil was treated, the growth of the conidial germination was maximum under the cultivation condition at $25^{\circ}C$ and in the culture medium adjusted to pH 5.0. The yield of water soluble essential oil was 3.9% and 3.7% in P. densiflora and C. obtusa, respectively. 24 and 15 kinds of compounds were identified in water soluble essential oils of P. densiflora and C. obtusa, respectively. The major components in the essential oil of P. densiflora were $\alpha$-Terpineol acetate and Terpinen-4-ol and those of C. obtusa were Terpinen-4-ol and $\alpha$-Terpineol. Antifungal activity was the best in the 5000 ppm of P. densiflora against Trichoderma harzianum and in 5000 ppm of C. obtusa against Trichoderma atroviride.

In this study, we observed air temperature to make clear that land coverage condition and stand form has a certain relationship to air temperature during the night in various green space. And with revolution analysis, we interpreted relationship of air temperature distribution in the green space, The way of analysis is this land coverage rate and air temperature, of number of tree volume of tree air temperature. With this experimental result, we can propose green plan, which is taking into consideration lower effect of air temperature. In this result, lower zone is formed in forest and water area, higher zone is formed in paved surface and barren ground. but this gap is a little. arbor+subarbor area, in the point of water area surrounded stand is formed relative lower air temperature. As a result to make up efficiency lower air temperature area, it is needed to make water area which has surrounded forest, and it is needed to make stand form lower air temperature 2~3 layer forest. In order of arbor, subarbor, shrub, the lower air temperature is more effect.
This study was conducted to construct a empirical yield table for Pinus densiflora in real forest. Since existing normal yield tables have been derived by studying and analyzing communities in ideal environment for tree growth, those tables provide more over-estimated values than ones from real forest. Because of this, there are some difficulties to apply the tables to empirical forest except for normal forest. In this study, therefore, we estimated stand growth for real forest on P. densiflora as the representative species of conifers. We used 1,957 sample plot data of P. densiflora in central Korea from National Forest Inventory (NFI) system, and analyzed through estimation, recovery and prediction in order by using Weibull function as a diameter distribution model. Weilbull and Schumacher models were applied for estimating mean DBH and mean basel area and it was found that the site index for P. densiflora in central Korea ranges from 8 to 14 at reference age 30. According to site 12 in the stand yield table, the Mean Annual Increment (MAI) of P. densiflora was $4.42m^3/ha$ at 30 years of age. Compared to existing volume table constructed before, it is showed that MAI of this study were lower. According to the paired t-test that is conducted with the gap of volume values between normal forest and real forest by site index and age, the P-value was less than 0.001 which is recognized to have a statistically significant difference. Based on the results in this study, it is considered to be helpful for practical management and management policy on P. densiflora in central Korea.

This quantitative research aims to examine the connectivity of forest networks in seven metropolitan cities of South Korea using a graph-theoretical approach. We first estimated an overall network connectivity at multi-scales (i.e., dispersal distances), ranging from 100 m to 20 km, and quantified the contribution of small forest patches (less than 10 ha) to the overall network connectivity by comparing networks according to the presence and absence of small ones. As a result, the cities were divided into two groups depending on the network connectivity; one group of cities with high connectivity such as Daegu, Daejeon, and Ulsan and the other group of cities with low connectivity including Gwangju, Busan, Seoul, and Incheon. The result showed that small forest patches, especially in the cities with low connectivity, played a key role as stepping stones that connect large forested patches, thereby contributing to maintaining connectivity. This study also suggests that large and well-connected forest areas may be the key factor to preserve the connectivity in the cities with high connectivity, while the cites with low connectivity are in need of some complementary strategies. Through the study, we suggest that the creation of new forest patches in the areas where a gap in connectivity presents is needed in order to improve connectivity; and that the conservation of the existing small forest patches is essential in order to maintain the current connectivity level.
Research on the rapid and accurate prediction of physical properties of wood using near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy has attracted recent attention. In this study, partial least squares analysis was performed between NIR spectra and air-dried specific gravity of five domestic conifer species including larch (Larix kaempferi), Korean pine (Pinus koraiensis), red pine (Pinus densiflora), cedar (Cryptomeria japonica), and cypress (Chamaecyparis obtusa). Fifty different lumbers per species were purchased from the five National Forestry Cooperative Federations of Korea. The air-dried specific gravity of 100 knot- and defect-free specimens of each species was determined by NIR spectroscopy in the range of 680-2500 nm. Spectral data preprocessing including standard normal variate, detrend and forward first derivative (gap size = 8, smoothing = 8) were applied to all the NIR spectra of the specimens. Partial least squares analysis including cross-validation (five groups) was performed with the air-dried specific gravity and NIR spectra. When the performance of the regression model was expressed as $R^2$ (coefficient of determination) and root mean square error of calibration (RMSEC), $R^2$ and RMSEC were 0.63 and 0.027 for larch, 0.68 and 0.033 for Korean pine, 0.62 and 0.033 for red pine, 0.76 and 0.022 for cedar, and 0.79 and 0.027 for cypress, respectively. For the calibration model, which contained all species in this study, the $R^2$ was 0.75 and the RMSEC was 0.37.
Fractional values resulted from the spectral mixture analysis could be used to classify not only urban area with various materials but also forest area in more detailed spatial scale. Especially South Korea is largely consist of mixed forest, so the spectral mixture analysis is suitable as a classification method. For the successful classification using spectral mixture analysis, extraction of optimal endmembers is prerequisite process. Though geometric endmember selection has been widely used, it is barely suitable for forest area. Therefore, in this study, we modified Iterative Error Analysis (IEA), one of the most famous algorithms of image endmember selection which extracts pure pixel directly from the image. The endmembers which represent deciduous and coniferous trees are automatically extracted. The experiments were implemented on two sites of Compact Airborne Spectrographic Imager (CASI) and classified forest area into two types. Accuracies of each classification results were 86% and 90%, which mean proposed algorithm effectively extracted proper endmembers. For the more accurate classification, another substances like forest gap should be considered.
The purpose of this study was to draw policy implications for the development and expansion of Korea's forest ODA through investigating the perceptions of stakeholder on the fields that contributed the development of forestry in Korea and would have competitiveness in developing countries and priority fields for Korea's forest ODA. For this, the survey was conducted for 248 subjects from the general and expert stakeholder groups. Chi-square test in cross analysis, independent sample t-test, ANOVA and Duncan test were conducted to compare the difference of perceptions by group. The whole general and expert groups consider that 'forest conservation and rehabilitation' contributed to the development of Korea's forestry most and consider its global competitiveness most high. Comparing expert groups, ODA experts evaluated the competitiveness of 'capacity building for policies, institutions and research' higher than the forestry experts. For priority fields of Korea's forest ODA, general groups perceived 'management of CERs' and 'conservation of biodiversity' most important, showing the clear difference in perception compared to that of experts. In Conclusion, for the effective forest ODA of Korea, the effort to fill the gap between the general and expert groups needs to be made, as well as developing forestry capacity building programs to cope with the fields such as climate change adaptation and biodiversity conservation, which is newly required in a global society, in addition to using the past experience of forest rehabilitation in Korea. It will be useful for the rehabilitation of North Korea's forest in the future.
We investigated the vegetation structure, and effects of canopy degree(gap or purlieu to 25%, 50%, 75%, over 75%) of the overstory on seedling regeneration and survivorship, and sapling density, growth and growth type of Abies koreana in subalpine of Mt. Chiri. The stem density in Abies koreana stand was higher in middle story than upper story, individual trees in upper story occupied larger area and were more apart, resulted in uniform distribution. The regeneration and survivorship of seedlings and saplings were best in 25% of crown closure, in order of 50%, gap, but lowest in over 75% of crown closure. The annual growth rate and recent 5 years growth rate of saplings were highest in gap or purlieu and getting lower toward gradually higher coverage of overstory. And 10- to 20-Year-old saplings were mainly regenerated in stands with lower density(I or II), but most of 20 to 30 years old saplings were growing in stands with higher density (III or IV). The number of "A" type saplings grown normally in gap or purlieu was gradually decreased in stand with higher density but the number of "D" or "E" types of which growth was supressed or prohibited by the high density was abruptly increased. Saplings normally growing in the gap and purlieu showed the panicle type, but those grown under dense crown were greatly suppressed and showed the umbellate type.
The purpose of this study was finding out proper wall assembly to reduce moisture accumulation in light frame wall under outdoor air conditions. For the purpose, moisture transfer and accumulation in a wall were evaluated for five types of wall assembly; typical wall (T), addition of a vapor retarder (P1), addition of two vapor retarders (P2), addition of an open air gap for ventilation behind the siding (P3), and shift of vapor retarder with proposed wall 'P3' (P4). The moisture transfer and accumulation in the all walls were evaluated after applying the typical and proposed walls to the field test house. Performances of the typical and proposed walls were compared according to the season. Rank for effective wall on reducing moisture accumulation in wall was 1) shift of vapor ratarder and addition of open air gap (P4), 2) addition of vapor retarder (P1), 3) typical wall (T), 4) addition of open air gap (P3), and 5) the other (P2).
