  • Environmental impact assessment has been implemented for more than 30 years in Korea. During that period, various amendments were carried out about target plan and assessment factors. However, in current environmental impact assessment act, only a few factors has been considered for soil environment assessment. This study analyzes the national and foreign environmental impact assessment guidelines on soil related factors and figures out the problems and implications of Korean environmental impact assessment. In Korea, water quality, topography and geology, hydraulics and hydrology, and soil contamination were analyzed as a soil related factors. The main assessment targets were pollution related factors such as soil pollution levels, amount of rainfall runoff, and non-point sources. However, in the case of foreign guidelines, soil compaction, soil sealing, and soil salinization is being analyzed for evaluating function and quality of soil environment. The revision of soil-related factors are needed for sustainable development of Korea.

  • The Result of this study (1)In the case of KDI school of public policy and management, since it makes up a very interesting and diversified racial environment that shapes the multinational global community, there must be careful considerations for foreign students together with wide publicity about Korea on the side of the school headquarters. (2)The library must become familiar with the ways to utilize outside organizations in order to provide user education to the foreign students. (3)In order to make it perfectly sure for them to provide not only the secondary materials such as bibliography, index, and abstract, but also the necessary full-text from the preparatory stage of the students' studies. (4)The library must grasp the students' needs through communication and must promote the efficiency of library operation by introducing an information service strategy measure similar to that of FISP so they can acknowledge and provide necessary information to fulfill the students' academic needs in advance.

  • This study aims to find the ways to correct and fix the errors in transcription by analyzing Romanization of Korean geographical names in foreign countries. The gazetteers from many countries, place name databases, and map-providing websites are the main source of research. Common error types found in this study are variant name posting, subordinated marking, double posting, spelling errors, and location errors. In fact, transcription of geographical names exhibits more diverse forms and types. The counter measures to fix these errors are as follows, firstly, consistent efforts with regular monitoring to fix errors are essential. Secondly, the one and only standardized Romanization principle is urgent. Thirdly, prompt update and publication in case of place name and/or boundary change is necessary. Fourthly, efforts to register unregistered geographical names are necessary. Lastly, the establishment of central agency solely for the management of geographical names is required.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate and analyze the actual case of service about how podcasts are provided in domestic and foreign public libraries and to suggest the possibility of expanding the service field using podcasts in domestic public libraries. As a result, foreign public libraries provided library events and use guides, book reviews, library promotions, information and contents, and often provided podcasts by age and library news. But the utilization rate of podcasts in domestic public libraries was low. A Podcasts of domestic public libraries were introducing to new books and recommending books. In the Incheon Yulmok Library, conducted a podcast program that librarians directly read the passages in the book and recommend new books. As a result, the book borrowing and utilization rate of the books have increased. In this way, domestic public libraries should apply podcasts to provide useful information to users and expand service area through various contents development that can increase motivation and interest.

  • This study examined the effects of dubbing on the ticket sales of foreign animation movies put on the screen in Korea in the context of 'Skopos Theory'. The ticket power of animation increased when dubbing was chosen as the translation strategy. Moreover, the effects were greater when the animation was in the peak seasons, classified as non-restricted, and made in non-US countries. The ticket power was also found to be greater when celebrities joined in the dubbing. This finding was consistent with the 'Skopos Theory', which implied that dubbing is superior to captioning for audience understanding and audience attraction. This study confirmed empirically the positive effects of dubbing on the performance of foreign animation movies, which is the contribution to the literature that has been limited on case studies. These results also suggest that a dubbing strategy should be consistent with its target audience.

  • On the urban scale, Micro-climate analysis models for urban scale have been developed to investigate the atmospheric characteristics in urban surface in detail and to predict the micro-climate change due to the changes in urban structure. BioCAS (Biometeorological Climate Impact Assessment System) is a system that combines such analysis models and has been implemented internally in the Korea Meteorological Administration. One of role in this system is the analysis of the health impact by heat waves in urban area. In this study, the vegetation cooling models A and B were developed and linked with BioCAS and evaluated by the temperature drop at the vegetation areas during ten selected heat-wave days. Smaller prediction errors were found as a result of applying the vegetation cooling models to the heat-wave days. In addition, it was found that the effects of the vegetation cooling models produced different results according to the distribution of vegetation area in land cover near each observation site - the improvement of the model performance on temperature analysis was different according to land use at each location. The model A was better fitted where the surrounding vegetation ratio was 50% or more, whereas the model B was better where the vegetation ratio was less than 50% (higher building and impervious areas). Through this study, it should be possible to select an appropriate vegetation cooling model according to its fraction coverage so that the temperature analysis around built-up areas would be improved.

  • Catalogue raisonne is a holistic work record of artist which describes academically significant record information related to works by cataloging major works of an artist. Such catalogue raisonne is used as research material for exhibition planner and researchers and even used as fundamental material for winnowing out authenticity of work. Compilation of domestic catalogue raisonne is at an opening step, but in foreign countries, the art related institutions and artist foundations play key role in compiling catalogue raisonne of artists. Cataloge raisonne is an essential element of record about the art work and relevant information. However, as the description of catalogue raisonne can vary in accordance with characteristics of artist and art work. Therefore, this study has analyzed catalogue raisonnes of artists published in foreign countries, examined the characteristics and description element of catalogue raisonne in details and aims to contribute to compilation of catalogue raisonne of authoritative domestic artists.

  • It is necessary to establish a marine environment management system in Korea for hazardous noxious substances (HNS) effluent from marine industrial facilities because the Marine Environment Management Act primarily focuses on pollution control from vessels and offshore man-made structures. In this study, we investigated the effluent guidelines of foreign cases focusing on the US Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA), which provides detailed information on the action levels and establishing principles for the industrial wastewater discharge of HNS. Based on the review, we also considered appropriate options for establishing new guidelines for Korea.

  • Aircraft engine parts repair is a field belonging to the lowest level in the hierarchy of the aircraft industry, and it is marginalized in terms of research, compared to aircraft manufacturing or maintenance that belong to the upper level. On the other hand, in 2019, Korean Air's Powerplant Maintenance Center paid USD $130 million to foreign countries for engine parts repair, making it an industry with great need for localization. To achieve the goal of localizing engine parts repair, a certification system is needed that can perform independent repairs based on the development of repair technology, aligning contractual relationships with engine manufacturers, and free from dependence on engine manufacturers or foreign repair companies. The purpose of this study is to provide a basis for subsequent research to secure an actual certification system by suggesting the need for securing such a certification system.
