In this paper, we propose an algorithm to automatically detect gait's joints. The proposed method classifies gait's types into front gait and flank gait so as to automatically detect gait's joints. And then according to classified types, the proposed applies joint extracting algorithm to input images. Firstly, we split input images into foreground image using difference images of Hue and gray-scale image of input and background one and extract gait's object. The proposed method classifies gaits into front gait and flank gait using ratio of Face's width to torso's width. Then classified gait's type, joints are detected 10 at front gait and detected 7~8 at flank gait. The proposed method is applied to the camera's input and the result shows that the proposed method automatically extracts joints.
The existing methods for detection of fire smoke in a video easily lead to misjudgment of cloud, fog and moving distractors, such as a moving person, a moving vehicle and other non-smoke moving objects. Therefore, an algorithm for detection of fire smoke in a video based on wavelet energy slope fitting is proposed in this paper. The change in wavelet energy of the moving target foreground is used as the basis, and a time window of 40 continuous frames is set to fit the wavelet energy slope of the suspected area in every 20 frames, thus establishing a wavelet-energy-based smoke judgment criterion. The experimental data show that the algorithm described in this paper not only can detect smoke more quickly and more accurately, but also can effectively avoid the distraction of cloud, fog and moving object and prevent false alarm.
Considering the high dimensions of video sequences, it is often challenging to acquire a sufficient dataset to train the tracking models. From this perspective, we propose to revisit the idea of hand-crafted feature learning to avoid such a requirement from a dataset. The proposed tracking approach is composed of two phases, detection and tracking, according to how severely the appearance of a target changes. The detection phase addresses severe and rapid variations by learning a new appearance model that classifies the pixels into foreground (or target) and background. We further combine the raw pixel features of the color intensity and spatial location with convolutional feature activations for robust target representation. The tracking phase tracks a target by searching for frame regions where the best pixel-level agreement to the model learned from the detection phase is achieved. Our two-phase approach results in efficient and accurate tracking, outperforming recent methods in various challenging cases of target appearance changes.

In current time, anomaly detection is the primary concern of the administrative authorities. Suspicious activity identification is shifting from a human operator to a machine-assisted monitoring in order to assist the human operator and react to an unexpected incident quickly. These automatic surveillance systems face many challenges due to the intrinsic complex characteristics of video sequences and foreground human motion patterns. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to detect anomalous human activity using a hybrid approach of statistical model and Genetic Programming. The feature-set of local motion patterns is generated by a statistical model from the video data in an unsupervised way. This features set is inserted to an enhanced Genetic Programming based classifier to classify normal and abnormal patterns. The experiments are performed using publicly available benchmark datasets under different real-life scenarios. Results show that the proposed methodology is capable to detect and locate the anomalous activity in the real time. The accuracy of the proposed scheme exceeds those of the existing state of the art in term of anomalous activity detection.

DaVinci processors are popular media processors for implementing embedded multimedia applications. They support dual core architecture: ARM9 core for video I/O handling as well as system management and peripheral handling, and DSP C64+ core for effective digital signal processing. In this paper, we propose our efforts for optimal implementation of object tracking algorithm in DaVinci-based smart camera which is being designed and implemented by our laboratory. The smart camera in this paper is supposed to support object detection, object tracking, object classification and detection of intrusion into surveillance regions and sending the detection event to remote clients using IP protocol. Object tracking algorithm is computationally expensive since it needs to process several procedures such as foreground mask extraction, foreground mask correction, connected component labeling, blob region calculation, object prediction, and etc. which require large amount of computation times. Thus, if it is not implemented optimally in Davinci-based processors, one cannot expect real-time performance of the smart camera.

In this paper, we propose a fast and robust framework for detecting and tracking multiple targets. The proposed system includes two modules: object detection module and object tracking module. In the detection module, we preprocess the input images frame by frame, such as gray and binarization. Next after extracting the foreground object from the input images, morphology technology is used to reduce noises in foreground images. We also use a block-based histogram analysis method to distinguish human and other objects. In the tracking module, color-based tracking algorithm and Kalman filter are used. After converting the RGB images into HSV images, the color-based tracking algorithm to track the multiple targets is used. Also, Kalman filter is proposed to track the object and to judge the occlusion of different objects. Finally, we show the effectiveness and the applicability of the proposed method through experiments.

An efficient and effective unsupervised single moving object detection framework is presented in this paper. Given the sparsely labelled trajectory points, we adopt a coarse-to-fine strategy to detect and segment the foreground from the background. The superpixel level coarse segmentation reduces the complexity of subsequent processing, and the pixel level refinement improves the segmentation accuracy. A distance measurement is devised in the coarse segmentation stage to measure the similarities between generated superpixels, which can then be used for clustering. Moreover, a Quadmap is introduced to facilitate the refinement in the fine segmentation stage. According to the experiments, our algorithm is effective and efficient, and favorable results can be achieved compared with state-of-the-art methods.

Optical Character Recognition (OCR) that has been a main research topic of computer vision and artificial intelligence now extend its applications to detection of text area from video or image contents taken by camera devices and retrieval of text information from the area. This paper aims to implement a binarization algorithm that removes user intervention and provides robust performance to outdoor lights by using TopHat algorithm and channel transformation technique. In this study, we particularly concentrate on text information of outdoor signboards and validate our proposed technique using those data.

We propose a detecting method for a car accident in parking lots. The proposed method consists of 3 parts : car detection, car tracking, and accident detection. In the car detection part, we detect the car using the pixel based foreground extraction method and the motion map. From the result of the car detection, the moving car is tracked. In the accident detection part, we set the accident detecting region in front of car, and then the car accident is detected using the difference of the motion. Experimental results show that the proposed method effectively detects the car accident in the parking lots.
In video surveillance and monitoring (VSAM), extracting foreground by detecting moving regions is the most fundamental step. The foreground extracted, however, includes not only objects in motion but also their shadows, which may cause errors in following video image processing steps. To remove the shadows, this paper presents a new technique to determine shadow pixels in the foreground image of a VSAM camera system. The proposed technique utilizes a fact that the effect of shadowing to each pixel is different defending on its brightness in a background image when determining shadow pixels unlike existing techniques where unified decision criteria are used to all pixels. Such an approach can easily accommodate local features in an image and hold consistent Performance even in changing environment. In real experiments, the proposed technique showed better results compared with an existing technique.
