  • Objectives: This study was conducted to review the overall concept of nutritional evaluation of infants and young children. Methods: Literature search was done to study definition, method and importance of nutritional evaluation of infants and young children. Pubmed and Google scholarship were used in the research. Search words were 'Nutritional evaluation', 'infants' and 'young children'. Results: Nutrition evaluation is mainly used by physical measurement, clinical evaluation, dietary intake survey, and biochemical test depending on the age and disease. The treatment method for 治未病, which is a concept of korean medicine, and 健兒法 for treating the concept of weak children are considered to have very high applicability in solving various problems found through nutrition evaluation in korean medical approach. Conclusion: Infants and children are the fastest growing period of their lives, showing rapid growth in physical, and emotional development along with rapid brain growth. Therefore, inadequate nutrition during this period affects mental and physical growth and development not only during that period but also throughout life. Nutrition evaluation is divided into regular evaluation that includes children in all growing seasons and screening evaluation for problem solving, and follow-up nutritional evaluation that evaluates nutritional status in the long run. For each nutritional evaluation, evaluation is conducted by physical measurement, clinical evaluation, dietary intake survey, and biochemical test. By comprehensively interpreting them, nutritional status is determined. This study provides basic data on the proper nutrition evaluation method to identify and correct nutritional problems such as growth level, nutritional deficiency, and nutritional excess early.

  • Numerous research has been conducted using internet search data since the mid-2000s. For example, Google Inc. developed a service predicting influenza patterns using the internet search data. The main objective of this study is to prove the hypothesis that highway traffic indices are similar to the internet search patterns. In order to achieve this objective, a model to predict the number of vehicles entering the expressway and space-mean speed was developed and the goodness-of-fit of the model was assessed. The results revealed several findings. First, it was shown that the Google search traffic was a good predictor for the TCS entering traffic volume model at sites with frequent commute trips, and it had a negative correlation with the TCS entering traffic volume. Second, the Naver search traffic was utilized for the TCS entering traffic volume model at sites with numerous recreational trips, and it was positively correlated with the TCS entering traffic volume. Third, it was uncovered that the VDS speed had a negative relationship with the search traffic on the time series diagram. Lastly, it was concluded that the transfer function noise time series model showed the better goodness-of-fit compared to the other time series model. It is expected that "Big Data" from the internet search data can be extensively applied in the transportation field if the sources of search traffic, time difference and aggregation units are explored in the follow-up studies.

  • Large area infrared surveys are often accompanied with follow-up optical spectroscopic surveys that has a significant legacy value even for other areas of research. Using these spectral database, we have performed a search for MgII absorption lines in the optical spectrum of background quasar. Over the ~4deg2 of AKARI North Ecliptic Pole survey field and Spitzer First Look Survey field, 18 and 16 MgII absorber systems are identified respectively. The redshift range for the background quasars was 1.0<$z_{qso}$<3.4, while the redshift range for the absorber was 0.6<$z_{abs}$<1.6. Galaxies responsible for MgII absorptions are identified in the deep optical images (CFHT r-band), yet the identification still remains ambiguous for 60% of the systems due to the limited image depth and the source crowdedness. The impact parameter ranges 20-60kpc, and the rest-frame equivalent width of MgII absorption ranges $0.7-4{\AA}$. The most critical part in the identification of MgII absorber galaxies is the existence of deep optical images in addition to the high S/N quasar spectrum with R>3000.

  • Gradually, there has been increase in the use of qualitative research methods in nursing research. Nursing scholars are using qualitative research methods to explore the essence of nursing and discover its meaning. However, there has been lack of standards for evaluating qualitative nursing research. Often nursing researchers are applying quantitative research evaluation standards to qualitative nursing research. Thus, there has not been any notable qualitative research done to date. In order to improve the quality of nursing research done to discover new knowledge for the nursing, & for development of nursing theory, criteria for critiquing qualitative research should be established. Therefore, this researcher introduced standards as criteria for critiquing qualitative research which are based on literature reviews and re search experiences. The suggested criteria are developed several question's as follows : 1) description of the research phenomena, 2) significance, 3) research purpose, 4) research question, 5) assumptions, 6) researcher's abilities, 7) selection of research samples, 8) data collection, 9) human subjects, 10) data analysis, 11) description of researcher's results, 12) literature review. Follow-up of concrete questions for each of the criterias have been developed.

  • The technique of foldover is usually used by experimenters to de-alias the effects that are interesting in follow-up experiment. Employing a $2^{k-p}$ design with resolution III or higher, Li and Lin (2003) developed an algorithm and used computer programs to search its corresponding optimal foldover design for selected 16-run and 32-run experiments. Based on the minimum aberration criterion, the strong combined-optimal design, defined by Li and Lin, is the better choice of the initial design. In this article, we apply the technique of blocking to find the strong combined-optimal designs. Furthermore, we will tabulate all 16-run and 32-run strong combined-optimal designs and their corresponding core foldover plans for practical use. Some new designs that have not appeared in the other literature but constructed by the technique of blocking are also proposed in this article.

  • During the year 2016 the newly installed NYSC (National Youth Science Center) 1m optical telescope was officially commissioned. Calls for future observational programmes were announced. During test observations we carried out an observational project aimed at follow-up observations of transiting extrasolar planets. To predict future transits we developed the "TransitSearch" code implemented in Python utilizing transit information from the Open Exoplanet Catalogue. During three nights in April and June 2016 we observed planetary transits of HAT-P-3b and TrES-3b. Preliminary light curves of the transit events are presented alongside with best-fit models. From this experience we plan to improve the optical alignment and photometric performance by operating the 1m NYSC telescope in a strongly out-of-focus mode for transit observations.

  • Gravitational-wave (GW) sources for the next decades would be in majority binaries consisting of neutron stars and/or black holes reside in the extragalactic environment. For example, GW170817 was the first extragalactic neutron star - neutron star binary found by GW observations and it was proved the power of multi-messenger astronomy (MMA) including the KMTNet observations. With the ever increased sensitivity, the $3^{rd}$ observation run (O3) led by the advanced LIGO and advanced Virgo this year aims to search for more 'standard' populations as well as 'exotic' ones expected by stellar evolution. I will present highlights of on-going efforts by researchers in Korea and those in abroad for estimating physical parameters of a source. Mass, spin, distance, and location are prerequisite information to constrain theoretical understanding of the source formation and evolution. Furthermore, these information are to be shared with the international community for follow-up multi-messenger observations. I will present the observational accuracy expected for the future GW observations and discuss their implications. If time allows, I will make a few remarks on prospects of O3 with KAGRA collaborations, which many domestic researchers are closely involved in.

  • The key science goal of the KMTNet Supernova Program (KSP) is to detect and study the early explosions of supernovae using one fifth of the KMTNet time. The BVI-band observations of the nearby target fields mostly closer than 30 Mpc distance and the follow-up spectroscopy provide valuable information on the early phase of the supernovae. These data can also be used for the studies of optical transients such as novae, dwarf novae, variable stars, and active galactic nuclei. Stacked images of several hundred images obtained from the time domain observations can be used for the search of low surface brightness galaxies reaching $28mag\;arcsec^{-2}$. Results and status of the KSP including ${\geq}20$ infant supernovae and ${\geq}100$ faint dwarf galaxies will be presented in this talk.

  • In this paper, we propose a pulmonary nodule registration for the tracking of lung nodules in sequential CT scans. Our method consists of following five steps. First, a translational mismatch is corrected by aligning the center of optimal bounding volumes including each segmented lung. Second, coronal maximum intensity projection(MIP) images including a rib structure which has the highest intensity region in baseline and follow-up CT series are generated. Third, rigid transformations are optimized by normalized average density differences between coronal MIP images. Forth, corresponding nodule candidates are defined by Euclidean distance measure after rigid registration. Finally, template matching is performed between the nodule template in baseline CT image and the search volume in follow-up CT image for the nodule matching. To evaluate the result of our method, we performed the visual inspection, accuracy and processing time. The experimental results show that nodules in serial CT scans can be rapidly and correctly registered by coronal MIP-based rigid registration and local template matching.
