기상조절 실험용 드론의 설계·제작과 활용에 관한 연구 (Development and Case Study of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) for Weather Modification Experiments)

  • Under the leadership of the National Institute of Meteorological Sciences (NIMS), the first domestic autonomous flight-type weather modification experimental drone for fog and lower-level cloud seeding was developed in 2021. This drone is designed based on a multi-copter configuration with a maximum takeoff weight of approximately 25 kg, enabling the installation of up to four burning flares for seeding materials and facilitating weather observations (temperature, pressure, humidity, and wind) as well as aerosol (PM10, PM2.5, and PM1.0) particle measurements. This research aims to introduce the construction of the drone and its recent applications over the past two years, providing insights into the experimental procedures, effectiveness verification, and improvement directions of the weather modification drone-based rain enhancement. In particular, partial confirmation of the experimental effects was obtained through the fog dissipation experiment on December 10, 2021, and the lower-level cloud seeding case study on October 5, 2022. To enhance the scope and rainfall amount of weather modification experiments using drones, various technological approaches, including adjustments to experimental altitude, seeding lines, seeding amount, and verification methods are necessary. Through this research, we aim to propose the development direction for weather modification drone technology, which will serve as foundational technology for practical application of domestic rain enhancement technology.

큰느타리버섯 포장형태에 따른 신선도에 미치는 영향 (Effect of trimming type and storage temperature after harvest on shelf life of Pleurotus eryngii)

  • 큰느타리버섯의 소포장에 적합한 포장형태 및 저장온도에 따른 저장기간 중 품질변화를 분석한 결과, 중량감모율은 저장온도가 높거나 저장기간이 길수록 증가하였으며, $0^{\circ}C$저장시 배지부착여부에 따른 차이가 없었으나 $4^{\circ}C$저장에서는 저장기간 38일까지 배지 부착형에서 다소 높았다. 갓신장율은 $0^{\circ}C$저장시 배지부착개체형이 비교적 낮았으며, $4^{\circ}C$저장에서는 배지 부착여부에 따른 큰 차이 없이 저장기간이 길수록 증가하였다. 저온저장 후 상온에서 기간이 길수록 중량감모율은 증가하였으며, 갓신장율은 배지부착형은 증가하였으나, 배지제거형은 6일 이후에 감소하는 경향을 보였다. 저온 저장 후 상온에서의 신선도는 배지부착형이 배지제거형보다 길게 유지되었으며, 32일 저온저장처리가 상온에서 6일까지 판매가능한 신선도가 유지되었다.

  • A fiber optic gyrocompass for ships was made in consideratino of cost, reliability and convenience. In order to reduce the cost a cheaper fiber sensor was used inthis system. The accuracy was increased by replacing a 180ppr-slit disk with a 1000ppr-encoder. The reliability was also increased by improving the signal processing electronics. This system was made as a heading angle display type for convenience. Although more inexpensive FOG than that of the previous system was used , the accuracy of this compass was increased about 0.5$^{\circ}$. Moreover, it has a very fast warm-up time of about 5minutes. Therefore, this compass can show the prospect of proactical use on ships if it is installed ona stabilizer against the dynamic motion such as rolling and pitching.

  • At a time when securing driving safety is the most important in the development and commercialization of autonomous vehicles, AI and big data-based algorithms are being studied to enhance and optimize the recognition and detection performance of various static and dynamic vehicles. However, there are many research cases to recognize it as the same vehicle by utilizing the unique advantages of radar and cameras, but they do not use deep learning image processing technology or detect only short distances as the same target due to radar performance problems. Radars can recognize vehicles without errors in situations such as night and fog, but it is not accurate even if the type of object is determined through RCS values, so accurate classification of the object through images such as cameras is required. Therefore, we propose a fusion-based vehicle recognition method that configures data sets that can be collected by radar device and camera device, calculates errors in the data sets, and recognizes them as the same target.

관창의 유동특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Flow Characteristics of the Spray Nozzle)

  • 본 연구에서는 관창의 유동특성예측을 위한 해석이론을 정립하고 수치해석으로부터 방수량과 방수형태를 예측하였다. 예측 데이터로부터 관창의 방수형태가 노즐과 니들의 위치에 따라 결정됨을 알 수 있었고, 관창의 유동특성은 노즐과 니들의 형상에 따라 그 특성이 결정됨을 알 수 있었다. 관창의 유동특성과 예측 데이터로부터 화재진압의 효율성을 극대화할 수 있는 새로운 관창의 모델이 제시되었다. 본 연구의 결과가 새로운 모델의 관창을 개발하는데 필요한 자료로 활용할 수 있을 것으로 보며, 또한 관창의 원천기술 확보, 동종업계의 기술력 파급효과 증대 및 소방분야의 기술개발 활성화 등에 이바지하고 자 한다.

Characteristics of Traffic Accidents on Highways: An Analysis Based on Patients Treated at a Regional Trauma Center

  • Purpose: There have been increasing concerns about serious traffic accidents on highways. The purpose of this study was to analyze factors affecting traffic accidents on highways and the severity of the resulting injuries. Methods: This retrospective study was conducted at a regional trauma center. We reviewed 594 patients who had been in 114 traffic accidents on highways from January 2018 to June 2020. We collected demographic data, clinical data, accident-related factors, and meteorological data (weather and temperature). Results: Environmental risk factors were found to be significantly associated with the incidence of traffic accidents on highways. Injury severity and the death rate were higher in sedans than in any other type of vehicle. Tunnels were the most common location of accidents, accounting for 47 accidents (41.2%) and 269 injured patients (45.3%). The injury severity of individuals riding in the driver's seat (front seat) was high, regardless of vehicle type. Three meteorological risk factors were found to be significantly associated with traffic accidents: rainy roads (odds ratio [OR] 2.08; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.84-3.29; p=0.01), icy or snowy roads (OR 5.12; 95% CI 2.88-7.33; p<0.01), and foggy conditions (OR 2.94; 95% CI 2.15-4.03; p<0.05). Conclusions: The injury severity of patients was affected by seat position and type of vehicle, and the frequency of accident was affected by the location. The incidence of traffic accidents was strongly influenced by meteorological conditions (rain, snow/ice, and fog).

최대유량역에서 소형 축류 홴의 3차원 난류유동 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Three-Dimensional Turbulent Flour Characteristics of a Small-sized Axial Fan at the Maximum Flowrate Region)

  • This study represents three-dimensional turbulent flow characteristics around an axial fan measured at the operating point ${\varphi}=0.32$, which is equivalent to the maximum flowrate region, by using three-dimensional fiber-optic type LDA system. This LDA system is composed of a 5 W Argon-ion laser, two optics in back-scatter mode, three BSA's, a PC, and a three-dimensional automatic traversing system. A kind of paraffin fog is used for laser particles in this study. Mean velocity profiles around an axial fan along the downstream radial distance show that the streamwise and the tangential components exist as a predominant velocity and have the maximum value at the radial distance ratio 0.8, while the radial component has a small scale distribution and its flow direction is inward except a part of blade tip. The turbulent intensity profiles show that the radial component exists the most greatly. And also the turbulent kinetic energy shows about 60% as a maximum value at the radial distance ratio 0.9. Moreover, the Reynolds shear stresses do not exist at upstream flow, but the streamwise and the radial components of them show about 20% as a maximum value at the radial distance ratio 0.9 at downstream flow.

  • The operating point of a small-sized axial fan is strongly dependent upon the system resistance. Therefore, the turbulent flow characteristics around a small-sized axial fan may change significantly according to the operating point. This study represents three-dimensional turbulent flow characteristics around a small-sized axial fan measured at the ideal design point $\phi$=0.25, which is equivalent to the maximum total efficiency point, by using three dimensional fiber-optic type LDA system. This LDA system is composed of a 5 W Argon-ion laser, two optics in back-scatter mode, three BSAs, a PC, and a three-dimensional automatic traversing system. A kind of paraffin fluid is used to supply particles by means of fog generator. Mean velocity profiles downstream of a small-sized axial fan along the radial distance show that the streamwise and the tangential components exist in a predominant manner, while the radial component has a small scale distribution and shows the inflection which its flow direction is inward or outward. Moreover, the turbulent intensity profiles show that the radial component exists the most greatly among turbulent energies.

This study represents three-dimensional turbulent flow characteristics around a small-sized axial fan measured at the four operating points such as $\varphi=0.1$, 0.18, 0.25 and 0.32 by using fiber-optic type LDA system. This LDA system is composed of a 5 W Argon-ion laser, two optics in back-scatter mode, three BSA's, a PC, and a three-dimensional automatic traversing system. A kind of paraffin fluid is utilized for supplying particles by means of fog generator. Mean velocity profiles downstream of a small-sized axial fan along the radial distance show that both the streamwise and the tangential components exist predominantly in downstream except $\varphi=0.1$ and have a maximum value at the radial distance ratio of about 0.8, but the radial component, which its velocity is relatively small, is acting role that only turns flow direction to the outside or the central part of axial fan. Moreover, all of the velocity components downstream at $\varphi=0.1$ show much smaller than those upstream due to the static pressure rise at the low-flowrate region.

Preliminary Study on the Elemental Quantification of in Ambient Liquid Samples of Microliter Volume Using the In-air Micro-PIXE Technique

  • Quantifying the trace elements in infinitesimal ambient liquid samples (e.g., single raindrop, cloud/fog water, and the soluble fraction extracted from the particles collected for a short time) is an important task for understanding formation processes, heating/cooling rates, and their health hazards. The purpose of this study is to employ an in-air micro PIXE system for quantitative analysis of the trace elements in a thimbleful of reference liquid sample. The bag type liquid sample holder originally designed with $10{\mu}m$ thick $Mylar^{(R)}$ film retained the original shape without any film perforation and apparent peaks of film blank by the end of the analysis. As one of tasks to be solved, the homogeneity of the elemental distribution in liquid reference species was verified by the X-ray line profiles for several references. It was possible to resolve the significant peaks for whole target elements corresponding to the channel number of micro-PIXE spectrum. The calibration curves for the six target elements (Si, S, Cl, Fe, Ni, and Zn) in standard solutions were successfully plotted by concentration (ppm) and ROI of interest net counts/dose (nC).
