  • The purpose of this study was to select the evaluation criteria for the physical spaces of a children's library in an effort to back up children's development in a more positive and constructive manner, as the physical spaces of a children's library are likely to affect their development. Theories of children's developmental characteristics were reviewed, and user benefit criteria were analyzed, which were the basis of the spatial conditions to facilitate their development in consideration of the developmental characteristics of different stages and domains. And then conceptual words that corresponded to the concept of benefit and commonly appeared in earlier studies of children's libraries and children's spaces were selected to embody the concept of benefit. 12 conceptual words were presented as corresponding words of benefit, out of which the majority were selected from among the previously selected words and some were added by this researcher. Several libraries were reviewed by the 12 standards, and a spatial criteria checklist for a children's library that focused on benefits provided to growing children was provided.

  • This study reports on the motivational use of special libraries from a user's perspective that investigated four motivational components: attention, relevance, confidence, and satisfaction (ARCS) of the library users. Even though special libraries received relatively little attention compared to public libraries, special libraries could fill the niche of public libraries for the special and specific needs of the community in the current library environments in South Korea. Qualitative data were collected through individual interviews and forty people participated in the project. The findings of this study show the four themes (ARCS) that users need motivation as a way to start using a special library, thereby staying focused and revisiting the library. It is possible that the ARCS model will contribute to the implementation, application, and practice of both special libraries and their services in the library environment. The results are expected to expand our knowledge on the motivational ARCS use of special libraries and to serve as basic data when designing motivational strategies and plans of the systems for special libraries.

  • As the number of Instagram users continues to grow, an increasing number of public libraries are establishing and maintaining accounts on the Instagram platform. The objective of this study is to classify and analyze the content of Instagram posts from 14 public libraries that are actively engaged on the platform. A classification of post types, divided into seven large, 16 medium, and 76 small categories, was employed to analyze the content of posts on each library's Instagram account from the account's inception to the end of December 2023. The analysis revealed that library posts focused on a few items, including book recommendations, library introductions and news, and event announcements of literary and arts programs. Program event announcements and reviews, book recommendations and reading programs were found to be highly correlated with user engagement and teen reading programs. Based on these findings, it is recommended that future Instagram posts should be more user-centered and interactive, and that libraries should actively promote their events on Instagram and other social media platforms.
