The purpose of this study is to reveal the meaning of ramp of Le Corbusier's Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts focused on experience of architectural promenade. The Carpenter Center was completed in 1964, only a year earlier than the death of Le Corbusier and also, this building is the only building actually constructed in North America. Despite these important facts, the meanings of the ideas of this building have not been paid attention as much as other buildings constructed at the same period, such as, Venice Hospital and Un Pavillion D'exposition in Zurich. In his book, 'Oeuvre Complete 1957-1965', Le Corbusier mentioned Carpenter Center as an architectural experiments of his ideas. The study of carpenter center will be an important architectural subject to clarify the meaning of his later works and ideas.

Recently, Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) have become increasingly popular in the last few decades, and overseas' M&A are particularly increasing to sharpen corporate competitiveness on a global scale. Previous studies showed that one of the main reasons attributes to failures of mergers was the lack of attention to merging information systems. In recent years, both academy and industry have more focused on Post-Merger Integration (PMI) and the integration of information systems (IS) between two companies is one of the critical success factors of corporate. This paper focused on Post-Merger IT (Information Technology) Integration Methodology of Cross-Border M&A. We followed a single-site qualitative case study method in order to investigate the type of phenomenon in M&A's natural setting. Moreover, we examined a typical energy and power company case in order-based industry, so that other industry players may have different results to determine post-merger IT integration method and scope.

As a computational approach to literary criticism, the method of character network analysis has attracted attention. The character network is composed of nodes as characters and links as relationship between characters, and has been used to analyze literary works systematically. However, there were limitations in that relationships between characters were so superficial that they could not reflect intimate relationships and quantitative data from the network were not interpreted in depth regarding meaning of literary works. In this study, we propose an improved method of character network analysis through a case study on the play . First, we segmented the character network into a dialogue network focused on speaker-to-listener relationship and an opinion network focused on subject-to-object relationship. We analyzed these networks in various ways and discussed how analysis results could reflect structure and meaning of the work. Through these studies, we strived to find a way of organic and meaningful connection between literary criticism in humanities and network analysis in computer science.

Construction companies are now trying a variety of cost-cutting strategies in the midst of recent slump of construction market. Notably, contract workers and local hires are accounting for increasing portion of management manpower as a part of their cost-reduction drive. However, construction site manpower researches to date have focused primarily on productivity analysis of site laborers, with little attention to the productivity of site management resources. This study aims to analyze the staffing status of office building construction site management manpower in reference to project size. Conclusions herein will provide basic inputs for subsequent attempts to build a model to enable efficient staffing of construction site management manpower.

The major reason that spatial data warehousing has attracted a great deal of attention in business GIS in recent years is due to the wide availability of huge amounts of spatial data and the imminent need for turning such data into useful geographic information. Therefore, this research has been focused on designing and implementing the pilot tested system for spatial decision making. The purpose of the system is to predict targeted marketing area by discriminating the customers by using both transaction quantity and the number of customer using credit card in department store. Focused on the analysis methodology, the case study is aiming to use GIS and clustering for knowledge discovery. The system is a key section of the research of multi-dimensional and spatio-temporal analysis in the internet environment.

In recent years the research has been focused on the preparation of special glasses, i.e., chalcogenide and heavy metal oxide ones that can transmit optical radiation above 2 um and also other optical parameters exceed those of silica based glasses. The attention in this paper is focused on chalcogenide glasses, on preparation of high quality base glass, for an application in infrared optical product design and manufacture. The amorphous materials of As-Se and Ge-As-Se chalcogenides were prepared by a standard melt-quenching technique. The compositions were mesaured by ICP-AES and EPMA, and structural and thermal properties were studied through various annealing processes. Several anomalies of glass transition and crystallization were observed in the DSC/DTA/TG results of the chalcogenide glass.

In the paper one investigates the benefits deriving from the introduction of SMA provisions in a structure subject to dynamic excitation and vertical loads. At this purpose one considers a multi-degree-of-freedom (mdof) shear elastic-plastic frame and designs couples of super-elastic SMA tendons to be placed at critical locations of the structure. Particular attention is focused on the reduction of $P-{\Delta}$ effects.

From the standpoint of end-use and practical performances, attention was focused preparing cotton fabrics which posses good dyeability as well as water repellency. The results are summarized as follows, as far as findings obtained from this study is concerned. The fluoro chemical (FC) water repellent finished cotton fabrics exhibited good dyeing properties and colorfastness to washing. Furthermore, the DMDHEU durable-press and FC water repellent finishes in a single pad bath resulted in excellent durable press performance and good water repellency.

Chemoprevention, one of the most innovative and promising areas of cancer research, refers to the prevention of cancer through pharmacologic or nutritional intervention. Recently, considerable attention has been focused on the role of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) in the carcinogenesis as well as inflammation. Inappropriate up-regulation of COX-2 is implicated in the pathophysiology of certain types of human cancers. (omitted)

Deoxyribonucelic acid (DNA) molecules have a huge molecular weight so that DNA was reported to be a promising natural polymer to give durable films. Among many applications of DNA, the authors focused their attention on separation membranes derived from DNA because membranes will play an important role in environmental and energy related processes. DNA-polyion complex membranes were prepared from DNA and corresponding polycations. The DNA-polyion complex membranes showed chiral separation ability toward racemic amino acid mixtures.
