Several alternatives for increasing the fluoride concentration in the mouth, such as water fluoridation, ingestion of fluoride supplements, fluoride paste, fluoride mouthrinse, application of fluoride gel are available. There is an impressive body of evidence that the topically deliverd fluorides are clinically effective in inhibiting the progression of dental caries. Recent studies on the cariostatic action of fluoride have indicated the importance of fluoride in the fluid environment of the teeth. The fluoride levels in unstimulated whole saliva can be considered indicative of F in the aqueous phase available for interaction with the tooth surface at a given time. The retention of F in the mouth after topical fluoride treatment is considered to be an important factor in the clinical efficacy of F. The aim of this study was to determine the elevation and clearance of fluoride in whole saliv after the following topical flouride treatments using HMDS-diffusion technique and fluoride ion electrode. The obtained results were as follow: 1. Average salivary fluoride concentration in the unstimulated whole saliva was $0.0152ppm{\pm}0.0091ppm$. Unstimulated salivary flow rate was between 0.34-0.36ml/min and there was no statistically significant difference among the groups(p>0.05). 2. Except for the immediate time after treatment, fluoride levels followed as APF gel>neutral gel>F-rinse>F-paste. There was no statistical difference between the salivary F concentration of F-paste group and that of control group after 2 hours. In case of F-rinse group, after 3 hours the concentration had dropped to baseline value. But there was statistically significant difference among the F concentraion of F gel groups and that of control group(p<0.05). 3. The mean $AUC_{0-120min}$ values were followed as neutral gel>APF gel>F-rinse>F-paste, and the values of the two former groups were significantly higher than those of the two latter groups(p<0.05).

The thermodynamic models, PC-SAFT (Perturbed-Chain Statistical Associated Fluid Theory) state equation and the Two-model approach liquid activity coefficient model NRTL (Non Random Two Liquid) + Henry + Peng-Robinson, for modeling the Rectisol process using methanol aqueous solution as the $CO_2$ removal solvent were compared. In addition, to determine the new binary interaction parameters of the PC-SAFT state equations and the Henry's constant of the two-model approach, absorption equilibrium experiments between carbon dioxide and methanol at 273.25K and 262.35K were carried out and regression analysis was performed. The accuracy of the newly determined parameters was verified through the regression results of the experimental data. These model equations and validated parameters were used to model the carbon dioxide removal process. In the case of using the two-model approach, the methanol solvent flow rate required to remove 99.00% of $CO_2$ was estimated to be approximately 43.72% higher, the cooling water consumption in the distillation tower was 39.22% higher, and the steam consumption was 43.09% higher than that using PC-SAFT EOS. In conclusion, the Rectisol process operating under high pressure was designed to be larger than that using the PC-SAFT state equation when modeled using the liquid activity coefficient model equation with Henry's relation. For this reason, if the quantity of low-solubility gas components dissolved in a liquid at a constant temperature is proportional to the partial pressure of the gas phase, the carbon dioxide with high solubility in methanol does not predict the absorption characteristics between methanol and carbon dioxide.

Ground subsidence can result in the formation of sinkholes, potholes, settlement of structures, and road subsidence. Road subsidence is described as the sudden collapse of the road surface into subsurface cavities caused by the loss of bearing capacity in the ground, such as the dissolution of limestone by fluid flow in the surface causing the formation of voids leading to subsidence at the surface. Road subsidence occurs about 665 times annually, and this incidence has been increasing until 2013. Damaged underground facilities, management negligence, and lowering of the ground water table have been the causes of road subsidence in Seoul. Seoul metropolitan government announced special management counter plans to relieve the anxieties and make the roads safe for passing. Construction sites, such as excavation works, need to be managed properly because they have strong potential to induce road subsidence. The aim of this study was to identify the main causes of road subsidence and suggest management plans. First, life cycle cost analysis revealed the daytime construction to be more appropriate than nighttime. In addition, by analyzing the limitations of using sand as a backfill material, it is proposed to use a flowable backfill material instead of sand. Finally, to reduce the blind spots, which is a problem in surveying the road pavement conditions of local governments, the road to be managed is divided into several zones, and a specialized agency is selected for each zone and a method of surveying the blind spots through collaboration is suggested.

This paper proposes a method that involves a combination of FDM and FEM for analyzing casting process. At present, many numerical analysis methods such as FDM, FEM, and BEM are used for solving engineering problems. For a given problem, a specific method that is suited to the problem is adopted; in general, FDM or FVM is favored for problems related to fluid flow or heat transfer, and FEM is adopted in stress analysis. However, there is an increasing need for using a combined method for complex and coupled phenomena analysis. Hence, we proposed a method in which FDM and FEM are coupled in three-dimensional space, and we applied this method to analyze casting process. In the proposed method, solidification and heat transfer was analyzed by using FDM. The field data such as temperature distribution were converted into a format suitable for FEM analysis that was used for calculating thermal stress distribution. Using the proposed method, we efficiently analyzed the analysis process from the viewpoints of work and time.

Line heating is a forming process which makes the curved surface with the residual strain created by applying heat source of high temperature to steel plate. in order to control the residual strain, it is necessary to understand not only conductive heat transfer between heat source and steel plate, but also temperature distribution of steel plate. In this paper we attempted to analyze is temperature distribution of steel plate by simplifying a line heating process to collision-effusive flux of high temperature and high velocity, and conductive heat transfer phenomenon. To analyze this, combustion in the torch is simplified to collision effusive phenomenon before analyzing turbulent heat flux. The distribution of temperature field between the torch and steel plate is computed through turbulent heat flux analysis, and the convective heat transfer coefficient between effusive flux and steel plate is calculated using approximate empirical Nusselt formula. The velocity of heat flux into steel plate is computed using the temperature distribution and convective heat transfer coefficient, and temperature field in the steel plate is obtained through conductive heat transfer analysis in which the traction is induced by velocity of heat flux. In this study, Finite Element Method is used to accomplish turbulent heat flux analysis and conductive heat transfer analysis. FEA results are compared with empirical data to verify results.

Socket weldment used to change the flow direction of fluid nay have flaws such as lack of fusion and cracks. Liquid penetrant testing or Radiography testing have been applied as NDT methods for flaw detection of the socket weldment. But it is difficult to detect the flaw inside of the socket weldment with these methods. In order to inspect the flaws inside the socket weldment, a ultrasonic testing method is established and a ultrasonic transducer and automated ultrasonic testing system are developed for the inspection. The automated ultrasonic testing system is based on the portable personal computer and operated by the program based Windows 98 or 2000. The system has a pulser/receiver, 100MHz high speed A/D board, and basic functions of ultrasonic flaw detector using the program. For the automated testing, motion controller board of ISA interface type is developed to control the 4-axis scanner and a real time iC-scan image of the automated testing is displayed on the monitor. A flaws with the size of less than 1mm in depth are evaluated smaller than its actual site in the testing, but the flaws larger than 1mm appear larger than its actual size on the contrary. This tendency is shown to be increasing as the flaw size increases. h reliable and objective testing results are obtained with the developed system, so that it is expected that it can contribute to safety management and detection of repair position of pipe lines of nuclear power plants and chemical plants.

The turbine is an important component and has a significant impact on the thermodynamic efficiency of the organic Rankine cycle. A precise preliminary design is essential to developing efficient turbines. In addition, performance analysis and structural analysis are needed to evaluate the performance and structural safety. However, there are only a few exclusive studies on the development process of the radial inflow turbines for the organic Rankine cycle (ORC). In this study, a preliminary design of the ORC radial inflow turbine was performed. Subsequently, the performance and structural analysis were also carried out. The RTDM, which was developed as an in-house code, was used in the preliminary design process. The results of the performance analysis were found to be in good agreement with target performances. Structural analysis of the designed turbine was also carried out in order to determine whether the material selection for this study is suitable for the flow conditions of the designed turbine, and it was found that the selected aluminum alloy is suitable for the designed turbine. However, the reliability of the preliminary design algorithms and numerical methods should be strictly verified by an actual experimental test.

The calculation of steady-state cavitating flows around Supercavitating Underwater Bodies (SUB's), which consist of a circular disk head (cavitator), a conical fore-body, a cylindrical middle-body and either a boat-tail or a flare-tail, are carried out. To calculate the axisymmetric cavitating flow, used is a commercial computational fluid dynamics code based on the finite volume method, Fluent. From the analysis of numerical results, the cavity and drag, affected by the fore-body and tail of the SUB's, are investigated. Firstly, the effect of the fore-body shape is investigated with the same disk cavitator and a cylindrical rear-body of fixed diameter. Then with the same cavitator and a fixed fore-body, the effect of the rear-body shape is investigated. Before the cavity generated by the cavitator covers the slant of fore-bodies sufficiently, the larger the cone angle of the fore-body(i.e., the shorter the slant length), the larger the drag and the slower the development of cavity. After the cavity covers the fore-body completely so that the pressure drag component of the body is vanished, the characteristics of drag-velocity curves are identical. Also, as the tail angle is bigger, the cavity generated by the cavitator is suppressed further and the drag becomes larger. The peak of the drag appears for the flare-tail, i.e., when the tail angle is positive(+). On the contrary, the trough of the drag appears for the boat-tail, i.e., when the tail angle is negative(-). When the tail angle is 5 degrees, the peak of the drag appears at the body speed of 80m/s and the value of the drag is 43% larger than that at the design speed of 100m/s. When the tail angle is -5 degrees, the trough of the total drag appears at 75m/s and that drag is 30% smaller than that of the cavitator, which means the rest of the body has a negative drag.
This study attempted to simulate changes in the thermal environment according to the type of apartment complex in Korea using CFD techniques and evaluate the thermal environment by type of apartment. First, apartment complex types in the 2000s and 2010s were referred from previous studies and four types of apartment complex were extracted from. Second, the layout of the apartment complex and temperature changes were analyzed by the direction of wind inflow. Third, a standardized model was created from each type using tower type, plate type, and mixed driving. Last, CFD simulations were performed by setting up the inflow of wind from a total of eight directions. The temperature was relatively low in the type consisting of only the tower type and the type of placing the tower type in the center of the complex, regardless of the direction of the wind. It was due to the good inflow of wind from these types to the inside of the complex. It can be interpreted because wind flows easily into the complex in these types. The findings showed that wind flow and resulting temperature distribution patterns differed depending on the building type and complex layout type, confirming the need for careful consideration of the complex layout in the early design stage. The results are expected to be used as basic data for creating a sustainable residential environment in the early design stage of apartment complexes in the future.

Many construction projects adopt grouting technology to prevent the leakage of groundwater or to improve the shear strength of the ground. Recognition as a feasible field procedure dates back to 1925. Since then, developments and field use have increased rapidly. According to improvement of grout materials, theoretical study on grout penetration characteristics is demanded. Fluid of grout always tends to flow from higher hydraulic potential to lower one and the motion of grout is also a function of formation permeability. Viscosity of pout is changed by chemical action while grout moves through pores. Due to the increment of viscosity, permeability is decreased. Permeability is also reduced by grout particle deposits to the soil aggregates. In this paper, characteristics of new cement grout material that has been developed recently are studied: injectable volume of new grout material is tested in two different grain sizes of sands; and the method to calculate injectable volume of grout Is suggested with consideration of change in viscosity and clogging phenomena. The calculated values are compared with injection test results. Viscosity of new grout material is found to increase as an exponential function of time. And lumped parameter $\delta$ of new grout material to be used for assessing deposition characteristics is estimated by comparing deposit theory with injection test results considering different soil types and different injection pressures. Injection test results show that grout penetration rate is decreased by the increase of grout viscosity and clogging phenomena.
