  • The calculation of the wind field for resource assessment is done by using CFD Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes simulations performed with the commercial software WindSim. A new interface has been created to use mesoscale simulation data from a meteorological model as driving data for the simulations. This method makes it necessary to take into account thermal effects on the wind field to exploit the full potential of this method. The procedure for considering thermal effects in CFD wind field simulations as well as the impact of thermal effects on the wind field simulations is presented. Simulations for non-neutral atmospheric conditions with the developed method are consistent with expected behavior and show an improvement of simulation results compared with observations.

  • A Shock absorber is one of the most important components in vehicle suspension systems. In general, many repeated analyses are required for the design of a shock absorber to satisfy the suspension characteristics of a specific automobile, like fluid flow analysis and mechanical analysis. The purpose of this study is to develop a fast design tool for shock absorber designers. One of the efficient solutions for this can be an empirical design method considering phenomenological effects from the shock absorber design variables. In order to extract the shock absorber's experimental characteristics, we used Taguchi method. This method showed that which design variables have major effects for the shock absorber's damping characteristics. This empirical design method also showed the direction of the design changes to satisfy the designer's intension.

  • A LS(Level Set) formulation is developed for computing two-phase flows on non- orthogonal meshes. Compared with the VOF(Volume-of-Fluid) method based on a non-smooth volume-fraction function, the LS method can calculate an interfacial curvature more accurately by using a smooth distance function. Also, it is quite straightforward to implement for 3-D irregular meshes compared with the VOF method requiring much more complicated geometric calculations. The LS formulation is implemented into a general purpose program for 3-D flows and verified through several test problems.

  • Recently, the sandwich injection molding has drawn attention because it offers the flexibility of using the optimal properties of two different but compatible polymers and is also one of the most p romising methods in connection with recycling of thermoplastics. In this paper, a new particle tracing algorithm is presented in order to describe the advancement of core polymer melt during filling stage. The main advantage of this algorithm is the use of identity field information rather than tracking a set of fluid particles. In addition, to model the process accurately, especially to detect the possible

  • A test facility was developed where an inducer for a liquid rocket engine turbopump can be tested using liquid nitrogen as a working fluid. At the facility, a hydrodynamic performance test and a cavitation performance test for an oxidizer turbopump were carried out. Head-flow relation at liquid nitrogen test was similar to the case at water test. However, cavitation performance at the liquid nitrogen was superior to the case at water test, which results from the thermodynamic effect of cavitation.

  • In order to improve the stall characteristics of the Wells turbine blade, experimental investigations have been made in the performance of the Wells turbine with 1), 2) grooved blade surface to reduce fraction drag against the steady and the sinusoidal flow condition. As the conclusion, the two methods are valid to improve the stall characteristics of the Wells turbine.

  • A study is analyzed on the design factor of Center-body diffuser and performed on conceptual design of Center-body diffuser with Computational Fluid Dynamic. The flow field of Center-body diffuser is calculated using Axisymmetric two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equation with $k-{\omega}$ turbulence model. The center-body diffuser is compared with second throat exhaust diffuser in terms of starting pressure, the degree of vacuum pressure, the design factor.

  • The analysis of propellant feeding sub-system is performed using a commercial code SINDA/FLUINT, the comprehensive finite-difference, one-dimensional, lumped parameter tool. With the code, cryogenic helium supply system, liquid oxygen supply system, helium injection cooling system are evaluated. The code gave satisfactory estimation scheme for propulsion system characterized by cryogenic temperature and high pressure, two phase flow. This paper focuses on presenting calculation scheme of propulsion sub-system using one-dimensional code like SINDA/FLUINT.

  • Imported vane type air motor and-piece is used widely in the domestic dental services. The imported hand-pieces are more than 90 percent in the domestic market. The air-motor unit of the hand-piece had not been developed inside of the country yet. Therefore it needs some research works. Purpose of this study is to design the air motor of the hand-piece for better performance. The geometry of the air-motor is based on product of NSK Company. The airflow of the air motor unit is simulated by Computational Fluid Dynamics. The performance analysis of the air motor units is investigated. ANSYS 12.0 CFX is used to analysis of the flowfield. Torque changes depends on spin calculated by the immersed solid method.
