Numerical Analysis of Hydrodynamic mass for various Tube Arrays in a circular cylindrical shell (원통 내부의 전열관 배열에 따른 유체부가질량특성 수치해석)

  • The outermost SG tubes have more structural problems than inside tubes. Many studies have used a uniform added mass coefficient for all of the SG tubes during the FIV analysis. The purpose of this study is to find out the added mass coefficients for each tube in a cylindrical shell. When a number of tubes are increased, added mass coefficients are also increased. And added mass coefficients at outermost tubes are less than those of inside tubes. According to gap changes between outermost tube and cylindrical shell, added mass coefficients are decreased with increasing the gap. When the gap has very large value, it shows that the added mass coefficient is asymptotically converged to the value of the tube array in a free fluid field.

A Numerical Study of Natural Convection in a Square Enclosure with a Circular Cylinder at Different Vertical Locations (원형 실린더가 존재하는 사각형 실린더 내부의 자연대류에 관한 수치적 연구)

  • Numerical calculations are carried out for the natural convection induced by temperature difference between a cold outer square cylinder and a hot inner circular cylinder. A two-dimensional solution for unsteady natural convection is obtained, using the immersed boundary method (IBM) to model an inner circular cylinder based on finite volume method, for different Rayleigh numbers varying over the range of $10^4\;to\;10^6$. The study goes further to investigate the effect of an inner cylinder location on the heat transfer and fluid flow. The location of inner circular cylinder is changed vertically along the center-line of square enclosure. The number, size and formation of cell strongly depend on Rayleigh number and the position of inner circular cylinder. The changes in heat transfer quantities have been presented.

  • This study was initiated to evaluate the cooling performance of CAC (charged air cooler) and radiator in the engine room of a mini bus. So we had firstly to predict the mass flow rate coming from radiator grille and front bum per opening using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation based on 3D configuration. And simulations were carried out for different cooling module layout and bum per opening hole size on sam e vehicle operating condition. Simulation results show that CAC cooling performance at reverse protecting plate-applying model was much efficient than that of the bum per opening hole size-increasing model in IMTD point of view. Part of the CFD simulation results was com pared to with experimental data. It was confirm ed that the CFD approach using STAR-CD based on pursuing no-com promise solution could provide design engineers with useful design information in the early design stage of vehicle development.

  • The fluid flow, mass transfer, heat transfer and film thickness variation during the spin coating process are numerically studied. The model is said to be I-dimensional because radial variations in film thickness, concentration and temperature are ignored. The finite difference method is employed to solve the equations that are simplified using the similarity transformation. In early time, the film thinning is due to the radial convective outflow. However that slows during the first seconds of spinning so the film thinning due to evaporation of solvent becomes sole. The time varing film thickness is analyzed according to the wafer spin speed, the various solvent fraction in the coating liquid, and the various solvent vapor fraction in the bulk of the overlying gas during the spin coating is estimated.

  • Variable displacement vane-type oil pumps represent one of the most innovative pump types for industrial applications, especially for engine lubrication systems. This paper deals with a modeling method for theoretical flow rate investigation of a typical variable displacement vane-type oil pump. This theoretical model is based on the pump geometric design and dynamic analyses. It can be considered as mandatory steps for a deeper understanding of the pump operation as well as for effectively implementing the pump control mechanisms to satisfy the urgent demands of engine lubrication systems. The developed pump model is finally illustrated by numerical simulations.

  • Tractor is a farm vehicle that is designed to provide a high tractive effort at low speed. It is used for versatile agricultural tasks such as hauling a trailer, tillage, mowing and construction work. Most older tractors use a manual transmission. However, as the intensity of work increases, tractors equipped with automatic transmission become popular due to the work convenience. In order to give the operator a large degree of control in field work, 24 gears with automatic 8-speed and manual 3-speed are arranged in transmission. This paper deals with the gear train that is designed for 8-speed automatic transmission by the engagement of multi-disk clutches. The gear ratio for each speed as well as power transmission mechanism is analyzed through velocity analysis. In addition, constraints of mesh gear ratio are derived by investigating the power flow path in velocity diagram for the given 8-speed gear ratio.

  • This study has investigated the relationship between heat release fluctuations and the flow perturbations in a partially premixed gas turbine combustor using a commercial CFD code. Special focus of the current work is placed on the effect of equivalence ratio on the flame dynamics in a partially-premixed system. As the first step for this combustion dynamics study in the non-perfectly premixed combustor, flame behaviors are modeled and then compared with measured results under both steady and unsteady conditions. The calculated results of the flame transfer function with equivalence ratio fluctuation are found to well capture the main qualitative characteristics of the combustion dynamics for the partially-premixed flames.

  • This paper reports a numerical method for determining the resistance and self-propulsion performance of an asymmetric pre-swirl stator used as an energy saving device by cancelling a propeller's rotational energy. The present asymmetric pre-swirl stator propulsion system consists of three blades at the port and one blade at the starboard, which can effectively recover the biased rotating flow. This paper provides the design concept for the present asymmetric stator, which produces more efficient results than a conventional propeller.

Comparison of Collecting Performance according to Contact Types of Heatpipe in Vacuum Tube Type Solar Collector (진공관형 집열기 히트파이프 접촉방식에 따른 집열성능 비교)

  • In this study, it was compared collecting performance according to contact types between heatpipe and manifold of vacuum tube type solar collector. Between two types, direct contact type is better in collecting performance. On the other hand, Indirect type have advantage in maintenance. In the result of numerical analysis, As the temperature of heatpipe and flow rate of working fluid increased, difference of outlet mean temperature of two types became large. Also, it could be confirmed, as contact resistance between heatpipe and copper tube in indirect type increased, the difference increased too. Useful data in selection and design in vacuum tube type solar collector were proposed by the results of numerical analysis.

  • The increasing demands for the recently released CPU which has had higher heat density, the confined space of desktop PCs, and so on are the main drive for continuously improving PC cooling systems. In order to meet number of demands, this paper describes the flow and thermal behavior of the heat sink combined with heat pipes, and a fan through the numerical analysis by using the computational fluid dynamics(CFD) code and discusses how to extend the cooling capability.
