Buffeting induced resonance (BIR) of hangers on long-suspension bridges is briefly reviewed, including mechanism and experimental verification. Taken the Xihoumen suspension bridge as a numerical example, sensitivities of the BIR of hangers to wind properties are investigated, including types of wind spectrum, turbulence intensity, and spacial coherence of wind fluctuations. Numerical simulations indicate that the BIR of hangers occur to both cases of different wind spectra, showing that it is insensitive to types of wind spectrum. On the other hand, it is found that the turbulence intensity affects buffeting of main cables almost in a linear manner, and so it does to the BIR of the hangers; however, the resonance factors, namely the ratio of the response of the hanger to that of the main cable, are little affected by the turbulence intensity. The spacial coherence of the wind fluctuations, although plays an important role on the buffeting responses of the main structure, has no substantial effects on the BIR of the hangers. Finally, replacement of steel strand with CFRP material has been verified as a very effective countermeasure against the BIR of hangers.
Dynamic characteristics of combustion occurring in various combustion devices have been extensively studied since most of high-performance combustion devices are susceptible to hazardous, unstable combustion that deteriorates combustor's lifetime. One of the most severe unstable combustion phenomena is high-frequency combustion instability in which heat release fluctuations from combustion are coupled to resonant modes of the combustor. Here in this study, characteristics of high-frequency combustion instabilities observed in three different combustion devices have been presented. Lean-premixed combustion instability occurs mainly due to equivalence ratio fluctuations which induce large heat release oscillations at lean conditions. Liquid-fueled combustion also shows high-frequency instability from energy coupling between pressure and heat release oscillations.

In the present paper, experimental and numerical fundamental analyses of the occurrence of lateral force in overexpanded thrust nozzle were carried out. Investigation of the lateral force fluctuations in an thrust nozzle for the shutdown transient was presented. Wall pressure distribution and Schlieren Photographs as NPR were presented. Pressure peak is observed during transition of RSS to FSS.
It is reported recently that the pump head deterioration near the best efficiency point, from single-phase flow to the choke due to air entrainment became less in a screw-type centrifugal pump than in a general centrifugal pump. Moreover, at a narrow tip clearance, the pump head became partially higher in two-phase flow than that in single-phase flow. However, the internal pressure fluctuations on this pump due to air entrainment have not been studied yet. For that reason, we have examined the influences of void fraction, flow coefficient and impeller tip clearance on pressure fluctuations in the casing. The void fraction became larger, the influence of tip clearance on pressure distribution became less.

An unsteady three-dimensional simulation based on Reynolds time-averaged governing equation and RNG $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model, was presented for pump-as-turbine, the pressure fluctuation characteristic of hydraulic turbine with guide vane was obtained. The results show that the time domains of pressure fluctuation in volute change periodically and have identical cycles. In volute tongue and inlet pressure fluctuations are light, while in dynamic and static coupling interface pressure fluctuations are serious; In impeller blade region the pressure fluctuation of pressure surface are lighter than that of suction surface. The dominant frequencies of pressure fluctuation concentrate in low frequency region, and concentrate within 2 times of the blade passing frequency.
This paper analyzes the dynamics and nature of regional business cycle synchronization for East Asian countries in the period of 2000:Q1-2011:Q4. Estimating a dynamic two-factor model extracts the common factor and the nation-specific factor from both the macroeconomic aggregates and plausible driving forces of regional business cycles. Evidence for regional business cycle synchronization is particularly strong for Korea, Malaysia and the Philippines, while Japan shows weak evidence of regional synchronization. On the other hand, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore and China are decoupling from regional business cycles. The driver of monetary aggregate is the most significant determinant of regional fluctuations of macroeconomic aggregates, whereas oil price and productivity are on average important driving forces of nation-specific fluctuations of real economic activities.
Direct numerical simulations are performed for a turbulent flow subjected to a sudden change in pressure gradient. The calculations are started from a fully-developed turbulent channel flow at $Re_{\tau}=180$. The pressure gradient of the channel flow is then changed abruptly. The responses of the turbulence quantities (e.g., turbulence intensities, Reynolds shear stress, and vorticity fluctuations) and the near-wall turbulence structure to the pressure gradient change are investigated. It is found that there are two different relaxations: a fast relaxation at the early stage and a slow one at the later stage. The early response of the velocity fluctuations shows an anisotropic response of the near-wall turbulence.
The effects of nonequilibrium condensation on the shock boundary layer interaction over a transonic bump model were investigated experimentally and numerically. An experiment was conducted using a supersonic indraft wind tunnel. A droplet growth equation was incorporated into two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equation systems. Computations were carried out using a third-order MUSCL type TVD finite-difference scheme with a second-order fractional time step. Computations compared with the experimental results. Nonequilibirum condensation suppressed the boundary layer separation and the pressure fluctuations due to the shock boundary layer interaction. Especially the nonequilibrium condensation was helpful to suppress the high frequency components of the pressure fluctuations.

Measurements of wind flow and pressure fluctuations induced by train passing on station platform have been conducted. Test conventional trains have a different nose shapes - bluff nose and wedged nose. The bluff nose train influence peak value of pressure fluctuations on station platform three times more than the wedged nose train for train speed of 108 km/h. Also, air flow induced by the bluff nose train passing is three times more than the wedged nose train passing. Current study shows that the gust induced by the bluff nose conventional train may threaten a passenger's safety on station platform in proximity to train passage.
An analytic approach is attempted to predict the amplification of turbulence in compressible flows experiencing one-dimensional and axisymmetric bulk dilatation. The variations of vortex radius and vorticity are calculated, and then the amplification of turbulence is obtained from them by tracking three representative vortices. For a one-dimensionally compressed flow, the present analysis slightly underestimates the amplification of velocity fluctuations and turbulent kinetic energy, relative to that of rapid distortion theory in the solenoidal limit. For an axisymmetrically distorted flow, the amplification of velocity fluctuations and turbulent kinetic energy depend not only on the density ratio but also on the ratio of streamwise mean velocities, which represents streamwise vortex contraction/stretching. In all flows considered, the amplification of turbulence is dictated by the mean density ratio. In the axisymmetric flow, streamwise vortex stretching/contraction, however, alters the amplification slightly.
