  • In this research, the simulation method for acoustic sounds by a uniform flow around a two-dimensional circular cylinder by using the finite difference lattice Boltzmann model is explained. To begin with, we examine the boundary condition which determined with the distribution function $f_i^{(0)}$ concerning with density, velocity and internal energy at boundary node. Very small acoustic pressure fluctuation, with same frequency as that of Karman vortex street, is compared with the pressure fluctuation around a circular cylinder. The acoustic sound' propagation velocity shows that acoustic approa ching the upstream, due to the Doppler effect in the uniform flow, slowly propagated. For the do wnstream, on the other hand, it quickly propagates. It is also apparently the size of sound pressure was proportional to the central distance $r^{-1/2}$ of the circular cylinder. The lattice BGK model for compressible fluids is shown to be one of powerful tool for simulation of gas flows.

  • Variations of water quality parameters were investigated for last 13 years in Han river. Deviation from 3 month moving average was suggested for the variation analysis. Many parameters of mainstream and tributaries showed similar monthly fluctuations. Suspended solid of mainstream showed higher fluctuation than that of tributaries due to summer flood. Contrarily, the organic parameters such as BOD, COD, and TN showed lower fluctuations in the mainstreams. The magnitude of deviation was in the order of pH < DO, COD, temp. < BOD, TN < TP, SS. Strong correlation was found in BOD data of adjacent sites. Main sites showed low deviation in comparison to adjacent common sites of mainstream (1:2.4). Mainstream showed low deviation in comparison to tributaries (1:1.7). Seasonal tendency of monthly BOD was confirmed using autocorrelation function. The deviation was in inverse proportion to the magnitude of BOD.

  • The torque ripple reduction method is studied to improve the speed fluctuation of permanent magnet flat type brushless DC motors. To reduce the torque ripple, this study developed the compensation method of the 5'th harmonics component of air gap flux waveform which pass through the driving coils. 1/2 inch VTR was considered. As the result of this study, we can reduce the torque ripple and the speed fluctuation of the capstan motor about 20% then before and we can obtain not only better characteristics of wow/flutter but more useful capstan motors which can be applied in the multi-function VTRs.

  • A free space transmission method using standard gain horn antennas in the frequency range from 9.0 to 10.5GHz is applied to determine the dielectric properties of grain such as rough rice ,brown rice and barley. The dielectric constant and loss factor, which depend on the moisture content of the wetted grain are obtained from the measured attenuation and phase shift by vector network analyzer. The moisture content of grain varied from 11 to 25% based on this wetted condition. The measured values of dielectric constants as a function of moisture density are compared with values of those obtained using he predicted model for estimating dielectric constants of grain. The effect of density fluctuation, high is an important parameter governing the dielectric properties of grain, on the dielectric constant and loss factor is presented. A new density-independent model in terms of measured attenuation an moisture density is proposed of reducing the effects of density fluctuation on the moisture content measurement.

  • Oscillatory wheel load fluctuation of considerable amplitude is almost always observed on railway vehicle running at high speed. From the acceleration measured on the axle-box, the frequency of this fluctuation is estimated to be approximately within 70 Hz. By the conventional measuring method, continuous outputs of wheel load can not be obtained, so it is difficult to investigate such a high frequency phenomenon exactly. We have developed a new method of measuring the forces and derailment coefficient continuously, using two pairs of strain gauge bridges whose output phases are shifted by 90 degree, and summing up the outputs with a weighting function. This method is available for measuring the forces between wheel and rail up to high frequency. In this paper, continuous method of measuring forces between wheel and rail and derailment coefficient.

  • When an optical pulse is propagated through the atmosphere space, it is attenuated and broadened by the effect of atmospheric turbulence. This pulse broadening is occurred by the fluctuation in the arrival time of pulse at an optical receiver. In digital optical communication, the attenuation is important factor but the pulse broadening is more important. In this paper, thus, we will find the broadening of pulse propagated through the turbulent atmosphere, present it as the function of the structure constant for the refractive index fluctuation, and simulate it to the turbulent strength and the transmission length.

  • In this study, we propose a compensation method of raw LiDAR data with noise and noise filtering for signal processing of LiDAR sensors during the development phase. The raw LiDAR data include constant errors generated by delays in transmitting and receiving signals, which can be resolved by LiDAR signal compensation. The signal compensation consists of two stage. First one is LiDAR sensor calibration for a compensation of geometric distortion. Second is walk error compensation. LiDAR data also include fluctuation and outlier noise, the latter of which is removed by data filtering. In this study, we compensate for the fluctuation by using the Kalman filter method, and we remove the outlier noise by applying a Gaussian weight function.

  • We study the scaling of the price fluctuation in the Korean housing market. From the numerical analysis, we show that the normalized return distribution of the housing price, P(r), has a fat-tail and is well approximated by a power-law, $P(r){\sim}r^{-({\alpha}+1)}$, with ${\alpha}{\simeq}3$ for the whole data set. However, if we divide the data into groups based on the trading patterns, then the value of ${\alpha}$ for positive tail and negative tail can be different depending on the trading patterns. We also find that the autocorrelation function of the housing price decays much slower than that of the stock exchange markets, which shows a unique feature of the housing market distinguished from the other financial systems.

  • In this study, to find out the physiological reaction of the human body and the sensation of comfort when people are wearing sportswear which is made of waterproof breathable fabrics under general environmental conditions (temperature : $20{\pm}1^{\circ}C$, humidity : $60{\pm}5%RH$, air current : 0.1 m/sec) and rainy environmental conditions (temperature : $20{\pm}1^{\circ}C$, humidity : $60{\pm}5%RH$, air current : 0.1 m/sec, rainfall : 250 1/hr), we made an experiment with sportswear in an artificial climate chamber and studied the thermal physiological response and subjective sensation. Mean skin temperature of the subjects was low and had a big range of fluctuation in rainy environmental conditions of two condition. Temperature started to increase at the beginning of the exercise, reached the maximum at the 2nd level of the exercise and then started to decline. Rectal temperature showed a slighter increase and bigger range of fluctuation in general conditions than in rainy conditions. Except clothing micro climate in rainy conditions, temperature and humidity and their range of fluctuation around back were higher than those around chest. Humidity was high and had wide range of fluctuation in general conditions. Heart rate was 4.4 beats/min higher in general conditions. In subjective test on rainy conditions, the feeling of discomfort increased due to the raindrops fallen on the skin. Unlike that in general conditions, cold sensation increased and humidity sensation reached to the peak after the exercise. In wearing sportswear made of shape memory breathable waterproof fabric, controlling function over a small amount of heat and water was distinctive while it turned out to be not so comfortable over a large amount of heat and water. Through this, the limitation of shape memory breathable waterproof fabric was recognised.

  • In this paper, we used Helmholtz solver based on 3D finite element method to quantitatively analyze the effects of change of gain, time delay and time delay spread, which are the main variables of flame transfer function, on combustion instability in gas turbine combustor. The effects of the variable of flame transfer function on the frequency and growth rate, which are the main results of combustion instability, were analyzed by applying the conventional heat release fluctuation model and modified one considering the time spread. The analysis results showed that the change of gain and time delay in the same resonance mode affected the frequency of the given resonance modes as well as growth rate of the feedback instability, however, the effect of time delay spread was not relatively remarkable, compared with the dominant effect of time delay.
