  • The main contribution of this paper can be summarized in two items as follws. Firstly, a modelling of mobile communication channel with Rayleigh fading characteristics is presented. Actual signal environments can be approximated as being real measurements by a proper mathematical representation of fluctuation of channel parameters due to Doppler effect, that is determined by the relative speed between transmitter and receiver, and noises, that vary at each sampling time. Secondly, an alternative procedure of synthesizing an adaptive equalizers is presented for recovering original signals that have been corrupted through the modelled channel. In order to compute the optimal tap coefficients for a high speed data(512 k symbol/sec) on a real-time basis, the CGM that guarantees fast and stable convergency is adopted during the training period of each frame. The coefficients obtained by the CGM are used as initial values for the LMS algorithm to trace the optimal coefficients during the data period that vary at each sampling time due to the mobility and noise at the receiver. Using the modelling presented in this paper, distributions of received signal power in various signal environments are demonstrated. The performance of the eqalizer proposed in this paper is shown as a function of BER under the various signal circumstances of mobile communications.

  • $^{134}Cs$ radioactive concentration among soil samples is difficult to classify due to the background impact on crust originated natural radioactive nuclide, and overlapping and interfering between peaks. The ways to identify true peaks in gamma-ray spectroscopy are as follows to reduce statistical fluctuation by smoothing based on the fact that the shapes of peak are mostly Gaussian, to inspect the levels of width and height of peaks, to add functions on low-energy trailing phenomena, or 4) to check the peaks after modifying Gaussian function itself. Therefore, it is considered that information and knowledge for spectrum analysis are necessary.

  • A Monte Carlo (MC) simulation study has been done in order to investigate the effects of line-edge-roughness (LER) induced by either 1P1E (single-patterning and single-etching) or 2P2E (double-patterning and double-etching) on fully-depleted silicon-on-insulator (FDSOI) tri-gate metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs). Three parameters for characterizing the LER profile [i.e., root-mean square deviation (${\sigma}$), correlation length (${\zeta}$), and fractal dimension (D)] are extracted from the image-processed scanning electron microscopy (SEM) image for each photolithography method. It is experimentally verified that two parameters (i.e., ${\sigma}$ and D) are almost the same in each case, but the correlation length in the 2P2E case is longer than that in the 1P1E case. The 2P2E-LER-induced $V_TH$ variation in FDSOI tri-gate MOSFETs is smaller than the 1P1E-LER-induced $V_TH$ variation. The total random variation in $V_TH$, however, is very dependent on the other major random variation sources, such as random dopant fluctuation (RDF) and work-function variation (WFV).

  • We report on the growth and characterization of InGaN/GaN MQWs on two different types of sapphire substrates and GaN substrates. The InGaN/GaN MQWs are grown by using metalorganic chemical vapor deposition. Our analysis of the satellite peaks in the HRXRD patterns shows, GaN substrates InGaN/GaN MQW compared to sapphire substrates InGaN/GaN MQW, more compressive strain on GaN substrates than on sapphire substrates. However, results of optical investigation of InGaN/GaN MQWs grown on GaN substrates and on sapphire substrates, which have lower Stokes-like shift of PL to GaN substrates compared to sapphire substrates, are shown to the potential fluctuation and the quantum-confined Stark effect induced by the built-in internal field due to spontaneous and straininduced piezoelectric polarizations. The InGaN/GaN MQWs are shown to quantify the Stokes-like shift as a function of x.

  • This study examines the behaviors and properties of discharged liquid CO2 from a long elastic pipe moving with a vessel for the oceanic CO2 sequestration by considering pipe dynamics and vessel motions. The coupled vessel-pipe dynamic analysis for a typical configuration is done in the frequency and time domain using the ORCAFLEX program. The system's characteristics, such as vessel RAOs and pipe-axial-velocity transfer function, are identified by applying a broadband white noise wave spectrum to the vessel-pipe dynamic system. The frequency shift of the vessel's RAO due to the encounter-frequency effect is also investigated through the system identification method. Additionally, the time histories of the tip-of-pipe velocities, along with the corresponding discharged droplet size and Weber numbers, are generated for two different sea states. The comparison between the stiff non-oscillating pipe with the flexible oscillating pipe shows the effect of the vessel and pipe dynamics to the discharged CO2 droplet size and Weber number. The pipe's axial-mode resonance is the leading cause of the fluctuation of the discharged CO2 properties. The significant variation of the discharged CO2 properties observed in this study shows the importance of considering the vessel-pipe motions when designing oceanic CO2 sequestration strategy, including suitable sequestration locations, discharge rate, towing speed, and sea states.

  • An analysis is made to study the solute transport in a Casson fluid flow through an annulus in presence of oscillatory flow field and determine how this flow influence the solute dispersion along the annular region. Axial dispersion coefficient and the mean concentration expressions are calculated using the generalized dispersion model. Dispersion coefficient in oscillatory flow is found to be a function of frequency parameter, Schmidt number, and the pressure fluctuation component besides its dependency on yield stress of the fluid, annular gap and time in the case of steady flow. Due to the oscillatory nature of the flow, the dispersion coefficient changes cyclically and the amplitude and magnitude of the dispersion increases initially with time and reaches a non - transient state after a certain critical time. This critical value varies with frequency parameter and independent of the other parameters. It is found that the presence of inner cylinder and increase in the size of the inner cylinder inhibits the dispersion process. This model may be used in understanding the dispersion phenomenon in cardiovascular flows and in particular in catheterized arteries.

  • In order to investigate the relation between wall vorticity and streamwise velocity fluctuations in a turbulent boundary layer, a wall vorticity probe has been developed, which consists of two hot-wires on the wall aligned in V configuration. Although the measured intensity of spanwise wall vorticity fluctuations is somewhat lower than previous results, the intensity of streamwise wall vorticity fluctuations is in good agreement with them. It has been shown that the measured intensity of spanwise wall vorticity fluctuations is affected by transverse length of the wall vorticity probe. Instantaneous streamwise and spanwise wall vorticity fluctuations are compared with the results of DNS. Probability density function of spanwise wall vorticity fluctuations shows good agreement with previous results and is different from that of streamwise wall vorticity fluctuations. Energy spectrum of streamwisw wall vorticity fluctuations is lower than that of spanwise wall vorticity fluctuations in low frequency region.

  • We have studied dielectric properties in the smectic phases of 4-(6-ethoxy-1-trifluoromethyl-hexyloxycarbonyl)-phenyl-4-Nonyloxybiphenyl-4-carboxylat ( TFMEOHPNBC ) having fluorine attached to one of its benzene rings. Homogeneous and homeotropic 1.5 and 5${\mu}m$ thick test cells were prepared to analyze molecular dynamic property. We measured capacitance as a function of temperature in the frequency range between 20 Hz and 100 kHz by using HP4284A LCR meter. We observed that the homogeneous cell has high dielectric constant causing dipole moment in smectic $C^{\ast}$ phase, but we can see the dipole moments are canceled out in antiferroelectric phase. It is found that there are two kind of the relaxation director fluctuation below 100 kHz. The first is ionic or space charge contribution below 10 Hz, and the second is Goldstone mode near 1-2 kHz. We will discuss molecular dynamics in smectic phase from extra information such as x-ray and electrooptic data.

  • Pulsation is an inherent phenomenon in reciprocating compressors. It interacts with piping to cause vibrations and performance problems. Indiscriminately connecting to a compressor can be dangerous and cost money in the form of broken equipment and piping, poor performance, inaccurate metering, unwanted vibration, and sometimes noise. Piping connected to a compressor can materially affect the performance and response. To minimize these detrimental effects, reciprocating compressor system should be equipped by pulsation suppression system. The system usually comprises bottle volume, called snubber. Snubber is one of the most important parts in hydrogen compressing system. It has installed reciprocating hydrogen compressor. One of these components is snubber which has function to reduce pulsation waveform and to remove the impurities in the hydrogen gas. A snubber has an inclined plate as a buffer, which is installed inside snubber. When the pressure loss and the pulsation of pressure within a snubber is minimized, the snubber could get more applicability. Therefore, a study to find an optimum geometric size on a several snubbers which have different buffer width, has been conducted using a numerical analysis.

  • In vector control technique, stator currents of an induction motor are transformed to equivalent d-q currents in a reference frame consist of d and q axis, each of which is coincide with flux and torque direction respectively. Since the current in q-axis is related to the torque in a synchronously rotating frame, torque is estimated as a function of q-axis current and flux. In this paper, a method to estimate torque of an induction motor based on the measurement of 3-phase currents and rotating velocity of a rotor is presented. Graphic-programming is used to measure signals, to estimate the torque and to show the result in the form of user friendly graph in window environment. To stabilize the fluctuation of estimated torque caused from the small measurement error of the rotor velocity, the stator current is reconstructed in a program based on measured signals. The experimental results executed under the velocity of 500 rpm, 1500 rpm without load and 1500 rpm with load show that the proposed method estimates the torque very well.
